SHANE! You and your crew - always such professional work. Having DCP represent my products in the way you do and for as long as you have - it is truly humbling. That goes not just for me, but for all the drummers that have been properly introduced to the products I make through you. Every time you sell one of my drums, I know because I invariable get an email from a very, very happy new Dunnett owner. My love and appreciation going out to you, Tony, all at DCP and of course my brothers and sisters in the drumming community. Please - stay healthy!

I heard the titanium 6 1/2 x 14 years ago. I never heard of the company before that, and realize they made the greatest sounding snare drum of all time. Every one of the snare drum few showed what is the pinnacle of snare sound. Every time I watch this video I pick a new favorite. LOL. But the triple brass is heavenly. Keep up the good work guys!

Another great video. this is exactly what I would have wanted, continuous loop, same beat, same mics, A/B/C comparo. Nicely done guys. You are the best in the business.
    My comments:
    1) All Dunnett Snares are amazing. There is really no one making better pallette of high quality exotic metal drums with such a unique and comprehensive tonal spectrum.
-besides the amazing craftsmanship in the seam welding/finishing, the uniques bearing edges, and the amazing strainer, the other things I have noted about Dunnetts that are unique are a) shells are often slightly undersized, giving a more tympani like seating of the head to the rim b) 8 lugs not 10, with flanged rims - altogether LOW MASS hardware
    2) Ronn also makes a great wood drum. Who knew?
    3) I currently own 14 different Dunnett drums. Four of my favorites that you did not demo are: a) 8" tubouliion titanium b) natural raw brass 2N c) Magnesium d) Dunnett/Ludwig Chief Titanium
    4) I just ordered a drum with an Inconel shell made by Ronn. That's the most exotic I have seen. Can't wait to play it
    3) I agree the stainless is magnificent, in this video I like that the best . I agree the triple brass sounds great but not as "unique" to Dunnett IMHO.
    4) my favorite Dunnett is my 6.5X14 magnesium (which you sold me about 3 years ago)
    5) The surprise to me (and of course the one I don't have) is the aluminum 2N. Aluminum drums are so "all over the map". While I like the Ludwig Acrolite and of course the LM402 and the Starphonic, I find aluminum thin shells often have a dissonant hollow ping (think Larry Mullen Jr.) Just not for me. My favorite is the trick Kodiak. This one is a condender.
    5) titanium rules. The tonal properties of titanium (full spectrum sound, dry, round) are just right for my ear. And that's my last comment. We all need to find our own sound, there is no right answer!!
Thanks again for a great video
    Mofo

    1) titanium
    2) aluminum
    3) carbon steel
I like how the drummer is like a machine playing pretty much the same pattern and voicings through all the snares! That makes it so much more fluid and easier to hear the sonic differences! I'm surprised how many shootouts DON"T DO THAT....8*P

I got my 2N Bronze Gergo Borlai from you guys a few years ago. Made some changes to it (went to 20 strand from the 42, changed both stock heads, took the hypervent and badge off) and it rips. I consistently get the “dude that snare is dope, what is it?!” whenever I play it. If I had to keep one metal drum, this would be it. Love it!

A titanium is on the way (ordered from DCOP), and that will make 5! Love them all. Got to meet Ronn a while back, and he was so willing to talk about snare design and options. Learned a lot that day. I hope to, someday, make it an even half-dozen. Have my eye on the COB …. So many great choices!!!

  • @JanPatrickLucas
    @JanPatrickLucas 4 роки тому +4

Well it's about time! I was waiting for this one and knew it would eventually happen. I feel much the same as Shane does, in that the first time I experienced Dunnett it was a fascinating revelation! Dunnett is my undisputed go to brand. You have to play one to get the full experience. The sensitivity and playability is like no others! I have to have them all....but if I could only choose one it would be from the Kore line. A bit more rare and I think quite labour intensive to produce but it's the ultimate for me. Apart from that you can't go wrong with the straight shell stainless, as an all round, one stop drum. Another that is a bit of a sleeper is the magnificent Magnesium! Having played and owned the straight wall and beaded shell drums I actually prefer the straight wall a bit more. I completely understand and appreciate Ronn's original theories on drums. he had it right in the first place but market demand brought forth all the evolutionary models we see. It's a great thing though. I've never, ever been disappointed in a Dunnett, and I'm as fussy as they come! Cheers and Happy Easter to everyone!

If that doesn't fix the issue please send me an email - I am always available to help. The Dunnett 42 strand snare wires are the best ones I can make. Bronze tail pieces and high carbon steel wires.

dunnettclassicdrums Ron, good to hear from you. The snares are installed correctly, it’s not the mechanism that holds the snare wires on it’s the actual wires breaking. I haven’t adjusted the tension since I’ve had the drum, (Sept ‘19), it arrived perfect. They don’t seem like they’re on too tight. I appreciate your willingness to stand behind your product publicly. I love this drum man, I really do. The snare wires breaking are kind of a bummer though.

That 2N Triple Brass is the best among the best....but there's not a bad drum in the lot. Every one of these are spectacular. And, I was surprised at the price (as far as Reverb goes). In a day and age when you can spend $1500+ on a boutique snare, these come in at $1K, which I'd never thought I'd say is *relatively* affordable. For those who haven't see it Ruben Spyker has a really good video comparing models as well. Sounds like Dunnett has cracked the code, as they say. Everything he touches sounds incredible. Can't wait to hear the carbon-fiber snares.

It's difficult to tell from a video, and recorded sound is always a little different from live sound, but I think I like the classic stainless steel the best. It seemed to be right in the middle in terms of ringiness - controlled, but not as dry as the titanium. I love the titanium's natural color, so I wanted to like it the most, but I think the SS topped it. What I didn't like was the Gergo Borlai bronze. It had a persistent, somewhat unpleasant ring that sounded like background hum. That and the 2N high carbon steel were my least favorite. The brass snares were a little ringier than I like, but the timbre of the ring was better than that of the 2N stainless steel.
    1. Classic stainless steel
    2. Classic titanium
    3. 2N modeling aluminum

    5. 2N triple brass
    6. 2N stainless steel
    7. 2N high carbon steel

2 and 3 were very close, as were 5 and 6. I'd probably change my rankings if I heard them live.

You have great ears! While this demo is exceptional, the only perfect way to assess a Dunnett is in person, but this is still a solid starting point. BTW, I am posting a link to a video of Gergo playing his Model 2N Bronze. I think you might change your mind...posting below this comment.

I still like the Titanium best because of it's low end and fewer high end overtones.

Yup. The cleanest and most distinct of the bunch. Surprised more people didn't go for it. Titanium, Magnesium and Bell Bronze are materials on a league of their own.

These videos are great, but nothing really replaces playing these drums in real life. I just got a Classic Stainless 6.5, and unless you get to really play it, tune it, explore its sound in person, its difficult to really understand all the mojo that these snares have.

I was least impressed by the titanium snare. It sounded choked to me. Maybe it was tuned too high? I liked the snare that had the red lug washers, whatever one that was.

i love your videos but to often you dont talk about the most important thing after the sound... the price! that makes the difference between getting it and just dream about it 😅

I love Dunnett snare drums, I just wish they weren’t as expensive. $1,000 for a snare drum, wow 😂
