    When you pressed the button on the handle, the Tesla released its lock on the Tesla adapter. You should've simply released the button and removed the Tesla adapter while attached to the ChargePoint handle. It precludes having the Tesla charge port door from closing on your fingers or the adapter.

    Great video. Something I am unclear about is how does this benefit me more than just using the mobile connector and the existing nema plug. Is it that the wall charger gives me more amps so faster charging?

    my CP Flex is connected to a 50A breaker. The wiring can even handle more than that, the App showed a 50A hardwaired configuration but the max output current I could select was up to 32A. So even if you hardwiure the max output will be 32 A as chargepoint limits the max to 40A by default. The only way you will be able to get 40A out of the unit is to call Chargepoint and communicate the details about your home installatin. Only tell them that you have a hardwired configuration if a licensed electricien did the installation as the wiring must be properly sized for currents above 50A. Confirm the breaker setting (double breaker in power panel with a sticker indicating it is for the Charge point charger.). The CP agent will then update their system and the wall charger breaker size to 50A and set the max current to 40A. I called them at 1 AM and they assisted me doing this. they uploaded the new setting to the wall unit and then asked me to turn off the breaker wait 30 sec and turn it back on. The unit light came up yellow blinking and after 1 min it went green. I plugged it into my car and the current became 40A and the charging power went up to 9510W. before it was going up to 7550W only. Note that not many cars have an inverter that requests more than 7000W. Only high end cars with DC chargers, etc have higher AC current capabilities due to a limitation in their inverters capabilities. And lastly they do have 24 hour customer technical assistance for this kind of easy to solve setup question. I verified it at 1 AM on Sunday. You don't have to junk the original power cable when doing hardwired connections. You can save it witrh the box so that if you later decide to sell it then the new buyer would have that option. Otherwise check your local trash company recycle program.

    I actually prefer for them to give you both options in the same charger: plug and direct. You might need to install the charger elsewhere and if a NEMA is already available you won’t have to order the plug or make changes to that installation.

    • @evunite1
      @evunite1  3 роки тому +1

      Hey @jperez007, thanks for the comment! I agree that having the option for a plug or direct connection is great! It would be nice for ChargePoint to offer the direct connection charger for less $$$ than the plug version, and then offer the plug as an accessory if you decide later on that you want/need one. Would save money for the consumer who only wants/needs to hardwire directly into the unit. Otherwise you are forced to pay for a plug that you may never use (which took time, resources, and money to manufacture), plus will either sit around on a shelf somewhere or end up in a landfill. Thanks again for the comment and happy charging!

    • @Wised1000
      @Wised1000 2 роки тому +1

      That is the maximum you are going to get from a level 2 access point. The limiting factor is the charger (which is in the car) which as of now are limited to 11.5 kwh (48 amp max). Calling what you put in the wall a charger is a misnomer its correct name is an electric access point. In effect its simply a smart plug.

      I have noticed the same thing recently, the price has definitely been fluctuating a bit. They are likely seeing shortages of components like many companies/products right now. The price may be more stable directly from their website. Hope that helps! Like and subscribe and happy charging!

    Will this charge as fast or equal to a Tesla brand charger? My electric company does not have a Tesla option as an approved charger for the program

    • @evunite1
      @evunite1  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the question! Yes, if you hardwire the ChargePoint charger you can use the full 50A (which is the same as Tesla). If you use either of the ChargePoint plugs (NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50) then you will only be able to charge up to 40A, so it will charge a bit slower than a Tesla charger. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Like and subscribe and happy charging!

    In the first generation of this product, they had like 6 or 8 variations depending on hard wire vs plug in etc. they intentionally simplified the buying experience. I think you’re over blowing the fact that you’re paying (maybe $5?) for a plug you don’t need, and may have to throw away. Realistically, keep the plug in the box for when you someday sell the unit. Or if you do toss it, one 2’ cord in a landfill is barely worth worrying about.

  • @Wised1000

    • @evunite1
      @evunite1  3 роки тому +2

      Hi @MK and thanks for the comment! If you own a Tesla I would recommend that you just get a Tesla Gen 3 charger (see video at timestamp 7:24 where I talk about the how it is cheaper). The ChargePoint is a great option if you want/need a longer charger cable than Tesla or if you have an EV that is not a Tesla.

    • @howardlerner4958
      @howardlerner4958 Рік тому +1

      Another reason is that if you own another EV that is not a Tesla. I own a Tesla Model Y, but my wife will be ordering an Audi EV E-Tron. The Chargepoint Home Flex will be able to charge either vehicle. If I purchased the Tesla home charger it wouldn’t be able to charge the Audi E-Tron. I just ordered the Chargepoint Home Flex.
