I'd be keen to install soundproofing for this purpose, and I wanted to ask if you had any thoughts on where the best place was to install soundproofing material?Perhaps between the inside of the cladding and the 2x4 wall structure - or within the 2x4 frame along with the insulation? 4. Great video. Think it is really helpful. Is there a link available with a full kit list which includes absolutely everything on it down to glue & nails?? How much did this all cost? Lastly, I see a few comments being critical about there being no membrane under the feather boards. I know you have said that the walls will be able to breath but should I consider a membrane just in case or are you confident that damp won’t be an issue?? Any help much appreciated. Thank you
Hi Damien, we will be working on a more details list of materials for costings, however many people build this kind of projects to fit there only space and needs, we spent just over £2k on materials for this size, As for the breathable membranes over the insulation, the I've built this one allowing air flow from the top section of the walls its fine and we haven't experienced any issues, but please do get some advise from the supply that you purchase the insulation from so you can be sure if your structure requires any membranes or not.
Excellent build, given me lots of tips. Did you use 3x2 for angled part of trusses? Also can you tell me where I can get the U shaped brackets that you used to secure the trusses to the sides please? Thanks.
Thanks John, Yes 3x2 inch timber if fine for a pitched roof this size, the brackets can be purchased though all main builders merchants and some garden centres, or even Tools station and Screwfix should stock them.
Craig nice work and great result. I was wondering how durable the upvc paint on doors is? I am thinking of painting my door but worried of how long-lasting paint on upvc would be?
Thanks Hazim, our painted have been on for close to two years and they still look fantastic, just a decent paint and apply 3 to 4 thin coats on and they will last you easy 5 years.
Thanks, Yes most defiantly, I've built around 8 to 10 of these over the years and always used 50mm brad nail and we've never had any issues, you could also apply some glue on the timber frames before applying the cladding or ply for extra strength, I find when your using a nailer like this you tend to fix far more nails in that's required because its so quick and easy!
Hi Craig. Absolutely brilliant work and great instructions. May I ask what is the material cost or bill of material, and what how much excess material percentage would you recommend when building a shed?
Hi like your work, just wondering don't you need to screw or bolt the main frame to that concrete block?? and how much does it cost to build?? thanks in advance
Thanks, the weight of the structure holds it down well, but we do live in a shelter areas with huge trees all around us so maybe if you're in an open area that affected by the wind then yes by all means bolt it down well. It cost us around tow thousand pound for materials but I did have some old materials left over from other jobs I used so I;d maybe budget around £2,500
I'm curious if like to be able to move the pretty nice garden office around. How many Caster Wheels 3inch Heavy duty fixed, swivel and brake Caster Wheels would I need? Your advice would be much appreciated Regards Tanya
Hi Tanya, such structure could be build on castors however the floor timbers would need to be larger (Thicker ) than the 4x2 we used, The base would also need to be further reinforced with ply wood we we set this floor on around 12 load points, if you were to have a structure this size and weight then you may need it to loaded onto around 6 to 8 large heavy weight wheels that could take a weight load of at least 750KG per wheel
May please know the cost to make one? Im thinking to make one, by watching your videos. Wanted to know if it will be worth buying or making my own. Much appreciated
Comprehensive build video! One question, does the base frame not need to be fastened to the concrete pad foundations or does it simply rely on the weight of the structure?
Thank you, We didn't fix our base frame to the pad foundations as we were quite sure it won't move due to the weight, However our garden is very well sheltered from the wide due to the high trees around us, if your planning a build that wasn't as sheltered I'd recommend considering fixing the structure down to the foundations.
Great job Craig 👏 It's inspired me to build my own garden building! I can see at the end there's insulation in the roof. Did you just leave this exposed? If not, what's the best way to insulate and cover it from the inside?
Thanks St James, I did leave our roof insulation open as I use it as an edit suit and it helps damped the sound for us, it could be covers with a nice T&G wooden or UPVC ceiling board would both look nice, it maybe wise to cross batten the ceiling and allow a bit of air flow behind the cladding to let the insulation breath
@@MrandMrsDIY Brilliant, thanks Craig. So have an air gap below the insulation and also above it? Or should the insulation touch the inside of the roof?
Good video Craig. Liked the tiles you used, which brand were they? Also, is there any reason why you didn't use a waterproof membrane between the wall cladding and the insulation?
Around 20:25, anything to be aware of when putting in screws in the roof truss so that they do not collide? I'm guessing having each slightly off-center is all that is necessary, right?
Hi Craig, Great video. I’ve checked the comments and am afraid to ask this as it may seem like a silly question....but how did you get power in to the shed? 👀
Hi, I didn't supply to start with as we can not give electrical advise on our videos, however, I got my electrician to install it when id finished, because of the way I built the base I could get underneath the one side so he drilled a 25mm hole in the floor at one corner then routed a Armoured cable though and connected lights and sockets, You could also ways have your Electrian install the cables first and build around/over the feed.
Hi Craig, another great video, with a great end result. Can you link where the roof tile system is from please? Cheers from Nick - Newport, Shropshire!
Hi Craig, I am looking to do something similar. Was wondering, since you made it look so simple and a wonderful job on it.. How much would you charge to make me one..?
Thanks Apurva glad you found it wonderful, I'm afraid we can't get the time to do private jobs at the minute as we have so many online videos to produce
Could anyone help? Does it matter which way round the joists go in the floor frame? i.e. could you use seven 2.4m 4 by 2's with two 3m 4 by 2's or as Craig has done: seven 3m 4 by 2's with two 2.4m 4 by 2's? The way i'm proposing will mean the tongue and groove boards will be fitted in the same direction as the joists rather than across them. It's just that I have enough wood already cut for my way as it's already cut however I'll need to buy more doing it Craig's way. Thanks
Thanks for your question Matt, Its stronger to cross the floor boards with the frame that's why I did this way, I appreciate used existing materials can save good money but be careful that you spend all that time and money building something that mite be weak! if you do use your old materials with your method maybe consider applying another thiner layer of sheeting to add to the strength at a fraction of the cost.
Good job Craigo, an idea on rough costs would be helpful in these sorts of vids too appreciating raw materials do vary and assuming you own all the tools
Thats right my friend materials can very, I had some SH materials already on site and had to purchase further, but your looking to spend around £3-4 thousand pounds on material if purchased all new. A well built garden office like this could put around £8k to £20k value on your home once complete.

May I ask what is the material cost or bill of material, and what how much excess material percentage would you recommend when building a shed?
Just under £3k materials
@@MrandMrsDIY thanks pal
Your advice would be much appreciated
Regards Tanya
Let us know how you get on with your own build 🏠
@@MrandMrsDIY Brilliant, thanks Craig. So have an air gap below the insulation and also above it? Or should the insulation touch the inside of the roof?
Liked and Subscribed.
Thank you.
Thanks
Gonna give this a go craig.cheers from st helens
Great to hear to it, good luck
Good, go for it
Good video Craig. Liked the tiles you used, which brand were they? Also, is there any reason why you didn't use a waterproof membrane between the wall cladding and the insulation?
Is it because he used ply on the inside and not plaster board?
Around 20:25, anything to be aware of when putting in screws in the roof truss so that they do not collide? I'm guessing having each slightly off-center is all that is necessary, right?
Yes sure its setting them at an angle so they collide, even if they did at that angle one would just spare off to one side.
@@MrandMrsDIY Thanks for the response!
Its almost bosh quality super tools
Hi Craig, another great video, with a great end result. Can you link where the roof tile system is from please?
Cheers from Nick - Newport, Shropshire!
Thanks Nick, the roof tiles were from Eurocell
Would love to know where you got those roof tiles from. Garden office.
Eurocell is were I got the roof tiles
great vid, what were the sizes of the base timber and walls?
4x2 inches tantalised timber
Excellent. Do you take order for such office in Walsall WS1 3HD, West Midlands.. what is rough estimate for 12 x 12 feet size.
Thanks.
Sorry we don't do orders, we just create the videos for people to build them themselves
Brilliant, how would the materials for this build roughly cost?
Around £2k
@@MrandMrsDIY thanks craig, amazing video btw, very straight forward explanations
@@Its-me-Chris-z3p Thanks mate! Check out our other videos on the channel for more builds!
I like Craig seems a decent fella
Thanks
Cheers
Great video and cracking end result - Is it worth putting plastic all around the shed before the shiplap gets put on just for added waterproofing?
Hi Craig, I am looking to do something similar. Was wondering, since you made it look so simple and a wonderful job on it.. How much would you charge to make me one..?
Thanks Apurva glad you found it wonderful, I'm afraid we can't get the time to do private jobs at the minute as we have so many online videos to produce
We wish we had the time to, we maybe be doing live DIY classes soon so keep in touch
I was half expecting Avid to turn up at the end and lock you in there 😂
