By 26 minutes having had 4 weeks of tough diagnostic work I think I’d have driven it off a cliff. Super work on that actuator rebuild. Respect all round.
I don’t have even this car, just started to watch and follow you because I have the same 2.7 engine in my Citroën, but I learned much more from you. Accurate description of perfect problem solving, seeing a system in general and being an ENGINEER in front of the unknown obstacles! All this with humor and patiente. Vera always says in the beginning: “ I hope you enjoy the video!” Actually I LOVE your videos, and I love sundays because of you!!
Diagnostics is a dark art when you have so much complexity in a vehicle, but the simple things can trip us all up, well done christian, excellent as ever.
I thought I had good mechanical aptitude to fixing things but Christian still amazes me. Especially his patience. Thank you to Vera for the camera work and editing.
You guy's are the funniest couple on UA-cam, the 'smiles per minute' on this channel are more than what we get from most super star comedians. Well done for all your hard work, - Christian's engineering skills are second to none, and Vera is simply a gem to watch. Have a lovely week.
This reminds me of a mate who turned up asking me to look at his Lambretta SX200. He said it was like the choke was always on. The air filter hose from the carburettor goes to an air scoop under the seat. Well guess here he stored his waterproof trousers. Yep, stuffed in the underside of the seat, right over the air scoop
And after charging you over £2k to solve it, they'll just push the bag back, knowing from the start, that that is the issue! My ex partner works for JLR - and she says how disgracefully inept, they are in assembling cars! Ripped harnesses, failure to install bolts, parts shoved in rather than done carefully( To save time), she said she'd never buy a LR! 😂 But C&V are absolutely brilliant! OMG they are fantastic!
I fix cars for friends and neighbors. Some of my neighbors think I am a genius, I am not, I am a dumb arse. But what I have learned to do is play, I play like a child, pushing prodding and poking around. When my mind is in this childish state, the answers often present themselves to me. This weeks episode was just wonderful!!!
As a mechanic that feeling you get when you are at the brink of giving up after exhausting every possible option then to realise it was something you overlooked man that feeling is something else!
I bought a one owner from new R32 dirt cheap a few years back off a guy who didn't want to put the money into it to get it fixed. Drove fine apart from at lower speeds the engine would misfire and stutter. Dealership quoted him £14k to replace the engine and all the ancillaries. Took me a year and lots of incorrect diagnosis and £2k in parts and to find the issues but the main issue turned out to be 4 damaged wires that cost less than £10 to replace... Essentially similar to this the clue was just looking at what the ecu was asking the engine to do and what the engine was actually doing.
Question. Has Landrover ever reached out to you about your channel ? You guys are awesome and it like a Sunday morning lecture every week. Always learning.
Starting around 14:00, you repeatedly mentioned the vacuum/negative pressure out of the air cleaner box ... and then went back to the weak/spongy spring diagnosis and the complete valve assembly machining process. In my mind, I was thinking, "uhhh, did you check intake of the air cleaner box itself yet?" No turbo lag ... but a trash bag! ;-) At the end, every time you kept shoving the bag down in that hood gap, I kept thinking "put a piece of doubled-up black duck tape on it to keep it in place!" I'm really shocked at how that's really OEM sound dampening. That all said, this was indeed a very interesting exercise to see how complex these modern car systems are, but also, as you say, how clever some of the engineering is. I'm in awe of your machining skills, and way you were calibrating the spring tension was really informative. A few days ago, I was making a very minor repair on a utility trailer tarp tie-down, overtorqued a screw and snapped the head off; my first thought was "well, Christian wouldn't've ever done that!" Christian relates how he's waking up early and working four weeks to trace the problem, and Vera says "hey, this really pretty car has massage seats!" That's comedy gold.
Don't feel bad, I'm an electronics tech and I know how easy it is to follow a false lead. Good on you both for persisting and finally...................finally solving the problem!!
Quote for my Sunday evening :- "If im going to sell this car, and if the guy is a prick, I know exactly what i'm going to do" 😂😂 It may have been 4 weeks of head banging for you guys but the dismantling, re-engineering, calculations & thought process is fantastic to watch. Each time you guys throw out the trash, youll keep thinking about the L405 queen 😅 Excellent video guys, as always keep up the good work 👍
I suspect he would say himself that he learned it bit by bit, each new bit building on the ones before. Also, apart from knowledge, he has the other diagnostic requirement - persistence! Also, I finally checked my own L405, but my bags are where they should be.
Your command of the English language is much appreciated. And as a Land Rover owner, I am prone to looking for the most complicated answer when something goes wrong when it usually has a simple fix.
love the fact you still put this on youtube knowing your mistake .in my eyes you never made a mistake you tought many people how to solve many problems on your way.land rover made the mistake .knowing the problem and not rectifying it .by removing or repositioning the faulty bag so it could never happen again ever ,great content .
Great work you two. I followed a no crank fault for around 2 months and it turned out to be the ground cable. I took apart the ignition switch, changed starter motor and finally it turned out to be a $0 dollar part. Cleaned it and it started right up. This is the life with these cars, but they are amazing when they work. Cheers from Canada.
Hindsight is great. 14:38 if you had graphed the MAF as well as the turbo, you may have got to the trashbag quicker. Great engineering as usual, unbelievable tenacity and a fantastic final outcome. Another brilliant production from LR Time. How do you manage the spanner turning, engineering, filming, editing and all the rest neeeded for a 30 minute episode EVERY WEEK? Well done, my friends.
We have just about endless hours of additional footage which did not make it into the video. Especially footage from the GAP tool during test drives. This video took about 30 hours of editing, and we are so happy that you guys liked it and pushed it to another Place 1 video. I am glad you did not go with your crocks on that ladder a couple of days ago. 😅👍🙋♀️
Now everyone with a TDV8 knows what that NVH pad does! Don’t feel bad, in taking these things apart, we understand them better. Look at it this way you saved €2700 for four weeks of diagnosis and made some great footage. It’s also nice to know that the queen is working perfectly….. Well done Christian and Vera. My favourite Partners in Grime ❤
What a dumb thing for JLR to install on such an expensive car ! Well done for finding the problem but but also for being Honest and true . Great video.
Wow. What an amazing find! The absolute torture you endured diagnosing this issue was indeed fascinating, love your content! I'm not sure what is more concerning; LR dealer wanting to charge you over 2k to NOT fix the problem or LR themselves using ridiculously cheap NVH materials on a 100k car? Let's just put it down to Clownworld!
4 weeks of debugging, amazing work! I mean I get why some workshops are not able to fix this sort of issue. Workshop hours would probably be 1/3 of the purchase price. 😅
True, but one would expect a main dealer or landrover specialist to have the expertise to pin pont the issue from the off. In reality all they do is give you a list as long as your arm to replace in trial and error manner....at cost to you. :-D
Yip…so it becomes more cost effective to replace things. Here in SA that’s the equivalent of €73.32/hr labour rate. At that many hours, the customer will walk away.
@@D0zer122 that's very cheap! 18 months ago my local JLR main dealer workshop was charging £275 per hour plus 20% VAT. That works out to a whopping £300 per hour labour charge ! And I bet it's gone up since then.
@@samrodian919I suppose if they knew what they were doing, you wouldn’t mind paying them £300 per hour, but when you’re paying them £300 per hour for trial and error, it’s pretty galling.
@@samrodian919 labour here is a lot cheaper. Seems maintaining the same vehicle even though parts coming here are imported (obviously) is plenty cheaper at the labour level. We only pay 15% VAT. My independent LR mechanic is about half the JLR dealer labour rate!
Your unlimited patience is only matched by your incredible engineering expertise . Great to watch and learn from , thank you for sharing your knowledge .😊
Thanks for the awesome video. I REALLY had a good laugh with you. Christian, love your view on repairing mechanical issues instead of throwing parts at it. I personally think the days of old school mechanics are gone and have been replaced by what I call "new part fitters"
I think you demonstrate perfectly that this is not a car to own unless you have a fully equipped workshop and a lot of patience and free time and maybe some spare cash and also a lot of skills
Well done, Christian and Vera. This reminds me of the story of the man who goes around the world in search of a moustache and realises it was under his nose all along. Keep up the good work.
Or the man who had his wheelbarrow checked by security for stolen goods every day when he left work, they never found anything,he was stealing wheelbarrows!
Brilliant video and full marks for honesty! I wouldn't be too hard on yourself though as by going through the intake systems with a fine tooth comb, it probably eventually led you to the trash bag by a long process of elimination. Can it not be taped in place to make sure it doesn't escape again?
I’m somewhere in between a hoarder and a collector. I know what I’ve got, I put one of those in the garage 30 years ago. I just don’t know where it is, so I go buy one and a few days later I stumble across the part I collected. Every time
I want to tell you guys how much of a joy and a pleasure it is watching your videos. Every time I learn something useful and I’m laughing throughout. This might be my favourite video from you guys yet!
I hope the happy calmness has now returned after the epic fault finding battle. The attention to detail is amazing and the humorous banter between husband and wife is comedy gold.
The joy that you two show in your videos is addicting to watch. I don’t even have a 405 but watched every minute of this video. You truly are blessed. I hope to one day have that kind of support team in my relationship and that much joy around my Range Rover problems.
Valeu! I’m from Brazil, I have a Discovery 3, and I go through this saga of finding defects that shouldn’t exist. I learn a lot from you every day, and how you make it seem easy! Even though I know it’s not easy at all with an LR. Everything is very tight and complex. I believe I’ve watched all your videos, some more than once! This LR Queen series was amazing! Congratulations, Christian! What an excellent mechanic you are! Congratulations, Vera, for supporting him in his ‘craziness’! Congratulations, everyone! Every Sunday is an adventure in an LR, even without leaving the Alps! Thanks!
I just watch this channel because i like the humourous and analitical approach. Yes it can sent you high up in the woods sometimes searching way to deep for a problem. Or making things way too difficult. like this video shows. Still i think it's the right way to do things. And on the other hand: lot's of work you have done is not for nothing. The car is now in tiptop condition. Lot's of possible weak points are now serviced. We had a repair saga on the (UK) 406 coupe forum with a V6 petrol which refused to make good power. In the end, and after months of searching by several guys, someone discovered that the air intake hose collapsed under certain circumstances. That thing is tucked away far away, and isn't easy accesable. After replacing it, the car drove like new. I don't own a landrover product, but a 406 v6 coupe. Still i watch every video, because of great mechanical skills, and lots of humor. Great channel!! Greetings from the Netherlands, Nico.
Debugging vehicles problems is not Land Rovers best area. They solved the problem of a stiff gearchange in my 4 door Classic RR by fitting a heavy steel gearknob, very cold in winter and burnt your hand in summer. I learnt to leave a glove over it when parking. You both deserve a medal for your patience.
Had same issue on a 3L v6 L405, Land Rover wanted £650 for new throttle body, fixed by a bit of double sided tape and a little crazy foam to keep the bag in place.
@@Vera_and_Christian Yes maybe it did take you 4 weeks, but I didn't have to rule out what a Land Rover dealer thought it was before I could get to the real reason. Brillant video always enjoyable and I learn so much from them.
I'm also a technical expert but in another discipline - and we technicians are often too much focused to find highly subtle causes of complex problems. And of course we are embarrassed when the cause turns out to be a simple trashbag which has blocked the way. Greatest respect to you, Vera and Christian and shame on Land Rover! 2.800,- EUR for NOTHING. Thanks for sharing this great video and experience! Best regards from Freiburg.
What a superb entertaining video. Been on the edge of my seat regarding this car and its diagnosis! You guys are great youtubers, funny, informative and so much fun to watch (plus i do wow at your engineering skills and confidence). So pleased The Queen is fixed.
I live in Wales near Cardiff and i want to buy an L405 "Queen". Maybe i could bring it over to you too check it over so that it is in perfect condition. I think it would be the most economical way of sorting any issues and it would give me a chance to re-visit an area i used to work in called Sassnitz / Binz. It was refered to as The German Riviera, and is really lovely in the summer. I have a good friend Gunter in Franfurt and he also has a great sense of humour so along with Henning Wehn and you guys that is now 4 very nice people i know in Germany. Thank you Vera and Christian for putting some joy into our lives. Cheers,... Brett 🤗
😅 We don't do that unfortunately. Believe the list is very long of those who to bring over their car to sort out the issues they have. But they are not that hard to wrench on, with a little bit of experience. 👌💪🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian Thank you for your reply. No, i could hardly expect you to add me to your long list of grumpy L/R drivers, otherwise you will have a 10 klm line of traffic all waiting for you to both work your magic. Haha. It's just that i was a mechanic in an earlier life and i refuse to work on my cars as i have learnt enough to stand over someone else and tell them what to do !!! When you run out of L/R and Ranges to fix may i suggest you turn your hands to Toyota's (Toymotors, we call them) as you can sort them all with a good range of hammers, adustable spanners, wrenches pliers and screwdrivers. !!! Cheers
Respect for your patience / diagnosis and for not throwing money at it like garages ! I have recently fixed a 2004 Transmission Limp Mode on a Mercedes 320CLK and that was oil leaking into the electrical plug on the transmission and working its way up into the cabin where the TCM is located - rather amazing Great Work
This video requires more than just one like button! Ps, that valve you were “fixing” almost looked like a bleed valve from a PT6. Thanks for an awesome channel.
Oh my goodness, after all your hard work it was just that bag😮 I would like to say your level of engineering and fault diagnosis is brilliant and my hat is well an truly off to you. I wouldn't be embarrassed if I was you and you do have a nice new hat. Well done Christian 👍
I was looking to purchase a Defender 110 (but went with a Rivian R1S instead). I was really worried about the longevity of the Defender so I inquired what an extended warranty would cost. It was $10,000 that would take my warranty to 100,000 miles. I thought that was expensive until I started seeing these videos. My Rivian came with a 175,000 mile drive train warranty (including the battery). I spoke with a Rivian mechanic when I went in for some simple “recall” that re-torqued some lug nuts. He told me the Rivian is incredibly simple to work on because it’s mostly replaceable components and there are very few of them. I admire Christian’s mechanical mind, I’m a huge Land Rover fan, but I’m so glad to be a Rivian owner.
Most important Christian, you must tell Vera we all care about her Trip to the Netherlands 😊. I loved my Discovery, but sold it for very similar reasons, at some stage you have to cut your losses. Now if only I had a lathe...
Excellent fault finding and no one would have expected a plastic bag would cause that. Imagine you had stuffed the bag back down in its correct position and the fault disappeared and didn't associate it with the bag. At least you proved all the expensive RR dealer "fixes" were bogus and found the true fault. Good introduction to working on a RR. I love my 2002 L322 and fixing all the faults. Sense of achievement.
This is why none of us in UK have a lathe, and Vera how was your Endhoven trip? A most excellent episode, so glad LR still manage to cause scratched heads, it gives all us viewers a great sunday morning, thanks to you both.
Fantastic diagnosis. You are just so honest. This is a serious F***up by Landrover and their service provider. I was involved in system and device maintenance for nearly 40 years, and our records would have recorded an incident like this and enabled a better result. Accurate diagnosis is what you would expect from a company at the origin of the system/device. Congratulation Christain for a very well done fault diagnosis.
If you'd gone down the dealers route a fortune would have been spent with no result. So how many dealers have done that, as their strategy is throw parts first and ask questions later. Really the dealer hasn't fixed it so they should replace the old parts and not charge. Or charge a token amount and leave the new parts as its relifed some parts. A very poor standard of workmanship from a dealer or any garage.
A roller coaster ride of an exceptionally thorough and entertaining journey of your hunt for a smoking gun. Solving a seemingly impossible puzzle is very rewarding, even when the answer was staring you in the face - the harder the climb, the more you appreciate reaching the top! Well done both of you & thanks.
KISS...always the answer. Don't worry as an Engineer with precision engineering and electronics experience I would have followed exactly the same fault finding route. Great thing is you now understand the thing inside and out..and it's now serviceable 😅. As always great video content (best on UA-cam IMHO). The community hugely benefits from the hard work that you both put in...bravo!
This is my favourite video so far. It's the journey, not the destination. It was a very valuable four weeks as you two and us viewers intimately learnt about the TDV8 Range Rover's intake and exhaust systems. And as an ancillary benefit, the many parts removed were removed before they or the fasteners fused in place making future disassembly less burdensome. So congratulations! I'm looking forward to watching this powerful SUV stretch its legs on the autobahn.
Well done Christian & Vera, another great video from you both. It goes to show that thinking out of the box when working on Land Rovers can save hours of wasted time. A lesson for us all. Keep the videos coming, very entertaining.
I dont have the Restricted Performance problem yet, but I going down to my garage, just to make sure that the trash bag is in its place. And awesome idea that you did not reveal the Problem in the last video! Makes it easier to understand the efforts one must take to become so competent. This is proper Instagram vs reality. And our lives, time, vehicles and money are real. Appreciate your immense hard work, respect!
Excellent Diagnosis Christian.. Your Brilliant.Huge Respect Sir. If you hadn't your super human approach to Engineering & Diagnosis the world would be a a worse place for us all. Brilliant Videos. Thanks To You & Vera. From L322 owner..
I shouted with joy, congratulations. I sincerely hope that Landrover consider sponsorship to this channel. The fans of Landrover are really die hard and deserve to be rewarded with more reliable vehicles. I'm tired of Toyota arrogance
Hats off to you Chris for your tanicity and honesty on the diagnosis of this fault.. Top job. What were Land Rover thinking of with that plastic bag though🙄
It was a good idea that was stupidly applied. An engineer in one group never thought to consult engineers in a different group. Solved their own issue, but introduced one for others. I've seen this 5hit over and over again.
That is just CRAZY ! I had to check the date when you revealed the "trash bag" was causing the problem.....as I couldn't believe the Range Rover folk would stuff that into the hood ! Thought maybe this was an April Fools joke. And mega-kudos on your machining/fabrication skills and analysis. And humility, which is the most important skill of them all !
This has been fascinating. I can't believe you've put the bag back in the hood 😅 Amazing content, I've really enjoyed something diffwith the L405. Enjoy the car!
Well done, Christian. 👍 I don't think this was low performance, but rather a result of not giving up on a nasty problem. In the end, hard work and the longest breath wins. After this long analysis you've maybe found the best and cheapest engine immobolizer ever.
Your patience and discipline in testing every potential fix before moving on to the next one is admirable (and the only way to be sure an action has brought about a change), and on the plus side, you now know your way around the L405 far more than you would have otherwise done by finding the issue immediately. You also can take comfort from knowing that many things on your car are perfect so (fingers crossed), you might now be able to enjoy many ’000 kms of trouble free motoring in your awesome L405. But we need more problems for content, right 😂 Awesome job!
Got to say. I've been following you guys for a while now. One of the most indepth channels on UA-cam. Brilliant. And you make me laugh as well. Keep up the geat content. 👍
Well done you two best car show on UA-cam for being entertaining and informative. I run a x260 jaguar xf with the world's worst and best engine 3.0sd. Thanks to you I have kept it. It still puts a smile on my face. Thought about an LR4 but not that brave. Jlr getting lots of bad press here which is a pity. At least you two will continue to provide the marque and us with the info to keep them on the road. Why buy a Toyota that would be boring. You and CEE are the most look forward too videos each week for me. 74 year old uk enthusiast.
Excellent entertainment at your expense Christian. I feel your pain, and Vera's, especially the bit about getting up at 4.30am when a lightbulb pings in your head and also sending Vera indoors, I've had the same plenty of times. 🤣🤣 I'm so pleased you've sorted it now.
I no longer get up early on a Sunday to go cycling and now spend extra time in bed eagerly awaiting your videos. Her indoors is currently giving me earache as she wants to make the bed and I am currently trying to explain the knowledge I am gaining about the problems garbage bags in vehicles can cause 😂 Thank you again for a most pleasurable Sunday lie in. Your ever grateful bed top mechanic
This was a great video, thank you for all your, and your wifes efforts. Your determination is great to watch. Whoever started the "Germans don't have a sense of humour" story..is incorrect 😃You had me laughing all the way through. I once had an Audi Coupe, that missfired as it was starting, and then spent days looking at the plugs, Timing, electrics, trying to fix the missfire, as i thought it may had jumped a tooth on the timing. A Mechanic friend of my Father was visiting... looks under the bonnet for 2 seconds and pushes a hose back on the carb 🤣 We have all been there. Looking forward to more stories, this will be hard to beat, but i'm sure you will have a good go 😍 PS leaving the spring out was epic thanks for including it, many wouldn't have.
Thank you wery much! When driving faster on the highway, my car also developed a horrible whistling sound from the corner of the hood on the right side. I was really scared that something was broken, but when driving at normal speed, the whistling sound disappeared. After watching your video, I went to check my car and there was this garbage bag fluttering near the air intake on my car as well. Thank you again and good luck with your work!
Guys you are an inspiration for everyone honestly, the level of care and the in depth procedures approached by yourselfs are really unbelievable. Good job and thank you for the great work ethics you share with us and hope more people are like yourself. Regards Dorin.

It's my first time being able to watch your video and I Compliment you for being so courageous to work and repair what is impossible for the agent's of Land Rovers and all other makes including. You are just awesome ❤❤❤
The whole week building a new spring part was just awesome. You can't make that sh!t up. I think you just cost LR dealerships thousands of Euros/Dollars Globally in repairs that nobody needs. All over a plastic bag. Brillant. Just Brillant.
Awesome work as always. I deeply respect your skills and dedication to fixing stuff. That would be a easy thing to overlook and clearly so did all those paid Landrover Mechanics.
Very good video, you are an engineer and engineer's tend to look for complicated solutions. I enjoyed both of you on your fault finding journey. Please keep it up :) . Chris UK
Actually, no, The best go to first principles and understand the SYSTEM (As Christian did... eventually) rather than the "seen it before" or " this is the effect, so it must be this" approaches. (And yes, I have experience as a field technician charged with assisting with issues others can't find. Rule 1. Ask "what did you do? Rule 2: Ask yourself "How does the system work" . Those who apply rule 2 rarely call for help. Roger UK
I am so glad you bought a Range Rover! I had an old one many years ago and loved it but the new ones are just amazing things in spite of reliability issues. You guys are just so fantastic to watch I love the chemistry between you. Christian's old school, a well as his new school, engineering skills are so entertaining and interesting to watch. I can't wait for the day I have my proper garage, with lift, then the fun will begin (I even failed to remove 2 x 13 mm bolts on the rear brake piston support bracket on my 2004 Ford CMax the other day. Hopefully the wheel bearing will hang in there till spring). Keep it up guys!
Sometimes the solution to the problem is right in front of your nose. The only thing is you overlooked it because you're seeing everyday. Its amazing to see how you assembled back the turbo actuator valve which is factory sealed and turn it to a working one again as if untouched with a fabricated shaft. Oh its my 2nd time watching this enjoyable queen limp mode episode. Cheers!
Amazing, too intelligent for your own good. Engines are so complex yet the very simple principle of Suck, squeeze, bang, blow was missing some suck. Entertaining all the same, well done, never give up!!

Quote for my Sunday evening :-
"If im going to sell this car, and if the guy is a prick, I know exactly what i'm going to do" 😂😂
It may have been 4 weeks of head banging for you guys but the dismantling, re-engineering, calculations & thought process is fantastic to watch.
Each time you guys throw out the trash, youll keep thinking about the L405 queen 😅
Excellent video guys, as always keep up the good work 👍
you should be on the Land Rover engineering team... THEY NEED YOU ! Excellent episode. Thank you Vera and Christian
I wish I knew half of what Christian knows about engineering and his skills. Very impressive what he works through and fixes.
Fantastic fault diagnosis and exemplary engineering skills. Everything looks simple in hindsight! What a fantastic result for The Queen ☺️
love the fact you still put this on youtube knowing your mistake .in my eyes you never made a mistake you tought many people how to solve many problems on your way.land rover made the mistake .knowing the problem and not rectifying it .by removing or repositioning the faulty bag so it could never happen again ever ,great content .
Ah, my favourite Sunday breakfast viewing, thanks to you both.
To be fair most LR owners I know would much rather throw money at tools and not parts. We're with you Christian 👍
We certainly have thrown more than enough money into tools ever since we bought Christians Queen😅👍🙋♀️
I feel your pain. I've got an l320 rebuilt the engine over past 12 months based on their videos. But the engine wont start. Very frustrating.
I think you are the only person qualified to own a used modern Land Rover, thanks for the great videos😊
My favourite Partners in Grime
❤
Well put saying 'Your unlimited patience is only matched by your incredible engineering expertise'! My thoughts too!
Thanks for the awesome video. I REALLY had a good laugh with you. Christian, love your view on repairing mechanical issues instead of throwing parts at it. I personally think the days of old school mechanics are gone and have been replaced by what I call "new part fitters"
Some words of wisdom Christian from an old guy in Britain. " The man who never made a mistake, never MADE anything"
One of the best videos ever, typical Christian, humour, incredible talent, takes things apart and re-engineers them to a higher standard
Brilliant video and full marks for honesty! I wouldn't be too hard on yourself though as by going through the intake systems with a fine tooth comb, it probably eventually led you to the trash bag by a long process of elimination. Can it not be taped in place to make sure it doesn't escape again?
Hats off to you guys. The amount of patience you have is on another level.
I’ve used your hoarder vs collector line a few times. So glad you stuck with LR instead of a Toyoda.
They’d be no channel content if had had gone the Toyota route ..😉
I’m somewhere in between a hoarder and a collector. I know what I’ve got, I put one of those in the garage 30 years ago. I just don’t know where it is, so I go buy one and a few days later I stumble across the part I collected. Every time
😂
I want to tell you guys how much of a joy and a pleasure it is watching your videos.
Every time I learn something useful and I’m laughing throughout. This might be my favourite video from you guys yet!
😊🙏🙋♀️
I hope the happy calmness has now returned after the epic fault finding battle. The attention to detail is amazing and the humorous banter between husband and wife is comedy gold.
Been waiting for this. 43 minutes makes it even better
Thanks!
I have a L405 SDV8 But don’t have any problems but I’ll remember this ,,,, just in case … thanks for spending your 4 weeks to work it out . 😊
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Nico.
No lathe, no mill? Good job! Took me 4 weeks…. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian.
I have recently fixed a 2004 Transmission Limp Mode on a Mercedes 320CLK and that was oil leaking into the electrical plug on the transmission and working its way up into the cabin where the TCM is located - rather amazing
Great Work
This video requires more than just one like button!
Agree absolutely. Brilliant work and brilliant video. Worth every penny of my Patreon contribution!
And patience! I pray for that! ha
I checked the service bulletins for my Vin and the issue is not known/listed. Quite unbelievable. Christian
I loved this video, you could see how frustrated you where but you persevered and laughed at the end when you found the fault. Well done ❤
😅👍Keep a close eye on that trash bag🙋♀️
Excellent Diagnosis Christian..
Your Brilliant.Huge Respect Sir.
If you hadn't your super human approach to Engineering & Diagnosis the world would be a a worse place for us all.
Brilliant Videos.
Thanks To You & Vera.
From
L322 owner..
L322. Nice. 👍
Kudos. You're really good. I think LR should keep owners informed about this possibility.
Well done team 💪💥
Anyone would be led astray by the complexity of these engines!
This has been fascinating. I can't believe you've put the bag back in the hood 😅
Amazing content, I've really enjoyed something diffwith the L405.
Enjoy the car!
That "Face Plant" GIF Christian and Vera uses in this episode should be the official Land Rover owner's greeting! I know that feeling very well!
Well done, Christian. 👍
I don't think this was low performance, but rather a result of not giving up on a nasty problem. In the end, hard work and the longest breath wins.
After this long analysis you've maybe found the best and cheapest engine immobolizer ever.
A man with unbelievable skill and knowledge. I love his blog never-ending learning
🤗🙏🙋♀️
Your patience and discipline in testing every potential fix before moving on to the next one is admirable (and the only way to be sure an action has brought about a change), and on the plus side, you now know your way around the L405 far more than you would have otherwise done by finding the issue immediately.
You also can take comfort from knowing that many things on your car are perfect so (fingers crossed), you might now be able to enjoy many ’000 kms of trouble free motoring in your awesome L405.
But we need more problems for content, right 😂
Awesome job!
😅👍🙋♀️
Excellent entertainment at your expense Christian. I feel your pain, and Vera's, especially the bit about getting up at 4.30am when a lightbulb pings in your head and also sending Vera indoors, I've had the same plenty of times. 🤣🤣 I'm so pleased you've sorted it now.
This is the most entertaining video on youtube in 2024
Thanks.
I have had 17 Land Rover's over 40 years and love them to bits I wish you were doing video's 40 years ago that would have saved me a lot of headaches
Outstanding work as always, you two always cheer me up! 😊 As an owner of an L322 I’m taking notes!
You both are doing great ❤ I have learned in life to look at the most unlikely problem in the situation and then work my way up. It's my first time being able to watch your video and I Compliment you for being so courageous to work and repair what is impossible for the agent's of Land Rovers and all other makes including. You are just awesome ❤❤❤
😃🙏💪🙋♀️
The whole week building a new spring part was just awesome. You can't make that sh!t up. I think you just cost LR dealerships thousands of Euros/Dollars Globally in repairs that nobody needs. All over a plastic bag. Brillant. Just Brillant.
I am so happy I drive a TOOYOOTAA it leaves so much free time to watch your videos, keep up the good work.
Awesome work as always. I deeply respect your skills and dedication to fixing stuff. That would be a easy thing to overlook and clearly so did all those paid Landrover Mechanics.
Wow, what a journey. Im glad you took us on the ride to the solution. I can imagine the range and mix of emotions when you solved it.
Very good video, you are an engineer and engineer's tend to look for complicated solutions. I enjoyed both of you on your fault finding journey. Please keep it up :) . Chris UK
Actually, no,
The best go to first principles and understand the SYSTEM (As Christian did... eventually) rather than the "seen it before" or " this is the effect, so it must be this" approaches.
(And yes, I have experience as a field technician charged with assisting with issues others can't find.
Rule 1. Ask "what did you do?
Rule 2: Ask yourself "How does the system work"
.
Those who apply rule 2 rarely call for help. Roger UK
I thought we were out of the woods until 28:06 when you said “variable vane actuator!” 🤦🏼♂️🤦♀️🤦🏼♂️🤦♀️. Here we go again! 😂
Absolutely briiliant! Excellent work and excellent video. Worth every penny of my Patreon donation!
What a great video. Although I do not have the problem I will be checking the trash bags on my L405.
Good idea 👍
@Vera_and_Christian trash bags all good.
Entertaining all the same, well done, never give up!!
i always envy your home-workshop Christian... wish i have that kinda set up so i can fix my car too.. anyway, awesome vid again. cheers Christian & Vera!!
