When Land Rover allocated the last run 2015 Defender Heritage Edition, they allocated 400 units to the UK ... and 500 to Germany. They are popular trucks. Do you see anything ionic in British people driving BMW, Audi, and Mercedes vehicles?
Exactly. So good to watch the dynamic between them and the skill on show. Do they actually like Land Rovers or is it all a Teutonic ironic eye roll? I genuinely can’t tell.
You will be pleased to know that I fixed my own D4 this week. Not based on your advice but based on your motivation to do so. MAF sensor fail, read codes, replaced part, problem solved. Saved $1000 in mechanic fees. Thank you for the inspiration.
I love coming home from the Beach on a Sunday here in Australia and watching these two crazy Germans fix a Range Rover in the cold. And you just know there will never be an end to the content on this. Keep up the good work.
One should always bear in mind that being in the "service of the queen" in itself, a mark of great prestige & honour. So one should "put their big boy trousers on" and get moving as faulty or broken components do not magically fix themselves. 😂 Greetings from Auckland. You just made my Sunday night. Thank you very much. Wish you a great week ahead.
Whilst my wife watches ‘her’ programmes, I watch your videos with my earphones on. She constantly gives me ‘the look’ when I laugh out loud. When I tell her I’m watching a German couple who are repairing (rebuilding?) their Land Rovers, I get an even more strange look! Your interaction is brilliant and who knew that Germans did irony and sarcasm? I have to say the repairs aren’t too bad to watch either. I believe Christian is a compulsive tinkler……maybe just as well he isn’t a gynaecologist!
I don't even own a Land Rover, ( I know nothing about Land Rovers) but I love your channel. You along with all the other You Tube shows have taught me a lot. I am currently sitting in my lounge looking at my 33 year old Land Cruiser with a new MOT. I had to do some welding, I have only ever stuck metal together, not really welding. The MOT test guy said my welding is atrocious, I was so happy, from sticking metal together to atrocious welding in a year. I am hoping to be a bad welder this time next year.
Vera & Christian, I´m a spanish follower after a while, now I´m very happy because I´ve a L322 with the same engine and last year I made the same reparation + replaced the broken left valve cover. You are brilliant and funny...I stand every Sundays for another episode of my preferred channel in UA-cam. Happy birthday to you Christian and thanks also to Vera, the woman dreamed of by any mechanics enthusiast!
As a Land Rover owner, I enjoy your channel immensely. It is a pleasure to watch ho methodically you conduct the work, unlike some Land Rover workshops.
I have to say there are some good things about Land Rover ownership, they keep one busy, they keep one out of trouble and they keep one of the streets (roads, tracks!?) Seriously though great repair and camera work too, hope it was the problem. Happy belated birthday as well. Meanwhile we just went right across Australia again in our Toyota LC in the worst weather ever, floods, wind, rain like sheets and mud, lots of clay mud! No problems. Well..., I thought I had one but I was mistaken. Lol.
Only special people would rather fix their Land-Rovers on their Birthday, than drive them. Christian and Vera have a birthday at least once every week! We, who watch this channel every Sunday, also have a birthday each week. Followed by 6 days either worrying about our own LR’s, or thinking we are really lucky they haven’t broken down….yet! Maybe we just don’t look at them in detail enough.
Good morning Vera & Christian on this chilly Sunday morning 😊 Love how you’re so protective towards the Queen 👸 Loved the operation on the oil cooler as it did really looked like you was a Heart ❤️ surgeon Christian. Have a fantastic week until next Sunday when we see some more Queen surgery lol 😆 Cheers Stevie 🏴
I had to change the disco 4 timing belts front and the dreaded rear (with the body on). Took me two days to get it done and you two have given me the knowledge of what to expect thank you
Man's gotta have his shed or workshop.. and naturally more enjoyable on his Birthday! My mind still boggles watching Christian get down and dirty on Range Rovers Great video.. hats off to Vera the camera Lady!
Some wooden platforms/step to stand on with legs set to enable you to reach easily into the engine may help. You could build a U section around the bonnet. With an easy remove section to allow access to the pit.
Inspired by Your video, I started to work on my Toyota by fixing the leaks which were not leaking and upgrading the parts, which were working fine. Now I am a happy camper and have CEL and feel spiritually close.
Be shure to replace coolant expansion tank cap. A number of coolant leaks are result of stuck pressure relief valve inside this cap. So, if it starts to leak somewhere because of pressure inside cooling system can't escape thru the valve and finds weak spots over and over again.
I watched this video because I own a Range Rover Sport SC so I was interested in seeing what the issue was with the machine. I lost complete interest in the repair issue and just enjoyed listening to these two interact 😂.
Must be nice to drive with such a big engine but I loved the 2.0 in my Mitsubishi Outlander, there was so much room that you could stand between the engine and the radiator and easily reach everything.
Wow it was worth taking it a part just to clean all that soot out, I just love these Big Range Rovers they look so good, I would love to go out in one just to see how quiet it is and smooth.
Happy belated birthday Christian. It would be good to analyze the oil stains inside the tank. It could tell you wether it is old oil from the machine or new oil that was accidentally put in the cooling system. It is amazing how much carbon was removed from the inlet. I am just wandering if mine is in the same condition. I have always thought of this inevitable situation and try to avoid it, All the best! Galo Pérez
Christian, whilst you had the oil cooler removed it would have been worthwhile doing a pressure test with air, probably from the coolant side. I've had two coolers fail internally, albeit on my old Passat, causing the same contamination issue. Another great video!
We have done more than enough pressure and vacuum test on that vehicle. This repair was almost two months ago. It's actually the first thing we did. 👍🙋♀️
Have a look at foil tape, it’s like sticky aluminium foil and great to close up hoses and ports etc when you strip things, another brilliant video thanks guys.
When I bought mine, some 3 years ago, it just had the oil cooler replaced. Apparently it had been a severe leak, and the mechanics had done a very poor job cleaning up the mess. It was smelling burnt oil for a couple of months. But that, along with an unnecessary gearbox adaptation reset after a fluid change, that made the gearbox slip on almost every gear for several weeks, I got it dirt cheap. The oil smell slowly faded and the clutches started to grip again after it had again started to get a grip on realities. Looking at all the carbon buildup in your butterfly valve (exactly: It is not a throttle!) and inlet manifold, I think I've got a plan. Mine has done 208 000 km now, so I'll, at least, stick a borescope in there.
Mine has the slipping trans too. I did a fluid change and adaptation reset. It shifts like new but it is not as solid on launch when cold. Not as good as my LR4 TDV6. Christian
We had - 43 C negative temp here in Sweden last week .that is cold, but you dont do carrepairs outside if not needed.Happy birtday and a Good 2024 with lots of videos for our sundaypleasure.
Vera called problem in the first few seconds 😂😂 oil put in the coolant bottle by the previous owner. And great direction from Vera.....take 1. water in the oil bottle nooooo take 2. oil in the water bottle 😂😂
Thank you both for your detailed explanations and problem solving, just wish I had the same tooling to better fix my own RR. Now if the queen could develop the “P006A-84 (27) Manifold absolute pressure - mass or volume air flow correlation - Bus signal/message failure - signal is below allowable range” It would be very much appreciated 😂 Nope it’s not split rubbers on the plenum or leaky intake manifold…
Very entertaining, great skills, would love to see you guys work on a 300TDI Discovery (I have a ‘96, as an occasional use car ) but I suspect you could not put up with lack of power and cornering ability. Being retired I have always thought there is no way I could afford the financial risk of owning a more modern RR or LR, and it’s good to get that confirmed by your vids!
Hi Wera and Christian. More English - we loosen bolts and nuts, not open as in German. Right out is remove. I removed a bolt (Wera put it in the box). I loosened a bolt but didn't remove it. (Sorry Wera)! Great Video! Kind Regards David
I have recently discovered your channel and am much enjoying it. I drive a P38 with a BMW engine. I brought it as a project but watching you I get my fix without getting either cold or dirty. It doesn't break, the HVAC book is displayed but the heater works, and I did have problems with the engine speed momently increasing by 300rpm, changed every sensor and then found I could have sorted it by cleaning the MAF sensor, BUT it runs perfect and appears to start easy when the engine is hot. I was a little confused by the term 'mole crawler' but then I saw 'Mall Crawler' in one of your comments, and then I knew what you meant, you meant a 'Chelsea Tractor'.
Enjoying watching your adventures and repairs. I have recently changed the oil cooler housing on my L322 4.4 tdv8 but also changed the EGR housing to block gasket which is located under the aluminium section in the middle of the V, if you think the bit you did was hard, it's a special world of pain. Mine was leaking coolant and oil externally, also changed the thermostat housing and lots of pipework as it had all gone brittle.
Is it advised to change the egr housing to block gasket or does an unknown oil leak higher up tend to be oil cooler housing seals? My car is leaking oil down the bell housing and I'm hoping it's from the oil cooler and not further down. Did you see / know it was coming from from Lower down? Thanks
A lot of cars that spurt oil out of rear seals etc and sprays oil mist into the oil breather that feeds warm air into the air box. Many times it's a defective PCV valve causing over pressure. My friend worked at a Volvo dealership and it was very common. Same for my W211 mercedes too.
Car ownership is a hobby which you if you can DIY. If not it is a very expensive money pit, where others waste your time and money without necessarily curing the original issue. Thats Life, Not LR Time ideloigy. Good work guys, Stay rich, and keep sending the message.
Vera, you are correct Christian would make a great surgeon. Happy Belated Birthday Christian I could not believe all of the buildup inside the intake and egr.
Your videos has become one of those things I have to check first thing Sunday morning. May be a bit addictive to be honest. Would be interesting to see how you bled the coolant system. May be you will do one in coming weeks. Keep up the lovely videos rolling.
it‘s always a mess. we started to open it on the top hoses, it‘s a bit less messy.😅👍 but stuff like that happens in a fraction of time and not really content for a separate video. But watch the next video on my Disco 3. We show it briefly.🙋♀️
Now there were a lot of funny quips in this week's video, but to tell the truth I fell over my couch laughing at "it came equipped with English weather!" That just hit sooo close 😂😂
A foam mat would work and make it less painful to work ontop of the engine bay. Glad to see that it appears to not be that horrific to work on. Also Happy Birthday, such a nice present, a oil leak on a cold day!
Happy birthday Mate , bit of luck you enjoyed a beer or two but by the looks of the snow it might be more scotch or port or snapps weather. Great video looking forward to next week .
Great video Christian/Vera Oh happy belated birthday, i once changed an alternator on my Volvo 242GT on my birthday before my girlfriend could take me out to dinner that was almost 40 yrs ago,LOL , Christian i love to work in my garage on my vehicles and own a good propane heater that produces 44,000 BTU's, and here in in Central Canada it is -28 with a windchill of -38 so i will wait a week it is suppose to be back up to -8 to-11 , just a tie rod end and block heater, Volvos are much less complex than the Queen and her delicate parts 😁, you have the best assistant on youtube, organizes , give you tools and even a share of OMG"S and films you to 👍 thx again it is motivating to watch you to
just a little tip if you look on your windscreen where the wipers rest you will see a little cross this is where your wipers should be when not working and yes it is cold here to so i do not envy you working out in the weather thanks for the interesting video
Hi clean the container out with some acid as we do on boat engines . Great work once again and I am still not purchasing an LR . Hyundai rules 134 K miles and only The roll bar bushes replaced under warranty no brakes disc or pads replaced . Tyres 70k miles . Hence it gives me time to watch you both .🤩🤩
Just a quick tip. When you buy a new battery keep the little terminal caps off it. When you pop the negative terminal of the ol’ Rangie pop one on the negative terminal. Greetings from a Toyota owner in Australia. I can confirm Range Rover owners do put the wrong fluids in the wrong holes
My goodness, if u want a Land Rover then u need to make sure u want to work on a Land Rover. I mean when u buy a Landie, u need to also buy a 3 car garage to have the space to work on the Landie and still have space for all the tools. I love cars but im loving the idea of 3 cylinder cars as they become more and more complex. At least u have space with a 3 cylinder. ps. u guys are a inspiration and a warning to prospective landie owners. Nice.
Another brilliant video makes my Sundays watching you guys and Happy Birthday Christian what a fantastic way to spend your birthday a true Land Rover owner 😂
Really interesting watching this repair. I did the same repair on my L322 4.4 2012. As yourselves I found the 'full fat' website extremely helpful. Great content guys !
ITS LR TIME😊😊😊 great content in this episode.you know your stuff christian and O.M.G vera.happy belated birthday christian.very inspiring videos and a good humour too.till next week stay safe😊😊😊😊
I’ve noticed an oil leak back end of the engine no sine from the top, and the coolant seems clean. But I think it’s most likely the oil cooler but going to to do some digging.
One solution for comfortable access to the engine bay is to use your two post lift. Raise it to just above engine height (without a vehicle on it) with the arms facing inwards then strap down a sheet of plywood with a piece of foam or similar then, with the bonnet up, drive the RR carefully under it. Shame your lift is outside as it might be a bit chilly at the moment 🥶
Whoop, whoop! I don't own any LR products but I LOVE the comedic irony of a German couple owning a British vehicle!
There's no irony, they sell Range Rovers in Germany.
When Land Rover allocated the last run 2015 Defender Heritage Edition, they allocated 400 units to the UK ... and 500 to Germany. They are popular trucks. Do you see anything ionic in British people driving BMW, Audi, and Mercedes vehicles?

@@paulwalker427Are you implying that an elephant is more reliable than a Land Rover 😂

Im in AU’s too. Not sure the rover was to blame here mate. Just content for YT
There's no such thing as a crazy German.
Anyone this into quirky British Engineering is an honorary Brit as far as I am concerned.
Not a Toyota ...
@@Himoutdoors quirky. what like jet engines, trains, the telephone, and on and on it goes...

Nope it’s not split rubbers on the plenum or leaky intake manifold…
You know. My LR4 must have been listening, because it just sprung a P0106-00 manifold pressure code on me!!

Very entertaining. Many happy returns, Christian.
Love your videos. I need this job done on my 2013 and my garage can’t give me a date. So I’m thinking of doing it myself.
It is very late, but Happy Birthday Christian. Great video as always you two!
That intake manifold reminds me very much of our 93 Ford Explorer . The first time took 3 hours and after 4 or 5 times about 20 minutes..
Thanks.
Another great Video, well done both in freezing temperatures. Look forward to more great videos on you Rang Rover.
I love how Vera didn’t mind you using her toothbrush on the Queen.
Aww bless her don't let her get get cold give her a cuddle.
Oh my God! I see a Bastian on Granada, on the south of Spain, since 20 minutes 😂. I can't believe this! It's true? Thanks for all your videos ❤
Bastian? Fabian 😂😂😂😂
😅👍 Fabian is indeed in Spain. He has had a rough start on his journey. 🙋♀️
Oh my God! I hope he is ok. What an illusion to see him. Thanks for all ❤
I am amazed you managed to narrow it down to just one "most common problem" ;)
Really interesting watching this repair. I did the same repair on my L322 4.4 2012. As yourselves I found the 'full fat' website extremely helpful. Great content guys !
You should spray dpf cleaner into the air intakes to clean out the system works a treat.🏴

Your a very lucky man Christian to spend your birthday with your lovely wife and the Queen. Happy birthday .
Happy Birthday Christian hope you had a fun Birthday 🥳
I’ve noticed an oil leak back end of the engine no sine from the top, and the coolant seems clean. But I think it’s most likely the oil cooler but going to to do some digging.
Did you leave a white rag in a vertical pipe when you put the part on at 22.40 ?
One solution for comfortable access to the engine bay is to use your two post lift. Raise it to just above engine height (without a vehicle on it) with the arms facing inwards then strap down a sheet of plywood with a piece of foam or similar then, with the bonnet up, drive the RR carefully under it. Shame your lift is outside as it might be a bit chilly at the moment 🥶
I think we manage just fine. 😅👍🙋♀️
another great episode. happy belated birthday Christian,
