I sell cards on TCG player, and I’ve mailed thousands of cards under $20-$30 in regular envelopes in the past. As long as it’s in a penny sleeve, top loader and team bag they will make it undamaged 99% of the time. If anything usps is more likely to lose it.
Dollar Tree tape is cheap and awesome. It's in the hardware section. I will never pay $5 for a roll of tape again.
yup, i use their painters tape
You mentioned ebay selling fees and shipping fees, cost for bubble mailer/envelopes/box, cost of a penny sleeve, a top loader, the cost of printer paper for the invoice, cost of ink to print the invoice, cost of shipping labels, the cost of the ink to print the shipping labels, most importantly your hard earned time it takes to do all this from start to finish, but don't forget the gas you're using to drop off your items to USPS. I sell on eBay and have some listed at less than 5 bucks and some people have the audacity to send you some ridiculously low offers. Recently a guy was offering $1 for a card and was telling me it's cheaper elsewhere, such as tcgplayer. Well go buy it on tcgplayer and stop being ridiculous. I'd literally be spending my own money to send this guy a card, almost arrogant if you ask me. Anyways, thanks for the great content and keep up the good work man.
Yeah, the gas to USPS everyday is part of it as well, thanks for pointing that out. My g/f and I sell other stuff on a different ebay account also though so we already have to drive to USPS everyday anyways which is probably why I forgot to mention that aspect lol.
if your listing ANYTHING for 5 bucks u aint even tryin to make a profit lol. Sellers always wanna bitch, but thats on you if your selling 5 dollar items. You have the same obligation on your end whether its 5 bucks or 500. You dont make money online selling 5 dollar items, period. You're not walmart
@@nunyabizwacks6711 Good point. Selling off bulk cards to those that can use them is a whole lot better than just sitting in my bulk box. "One man's trash is another man's treasure." A $2 sale is more appealing to me than keeping a card stored away with no use. Raising awareness to be considerate to those servicing you is my main point in that regard. Happy holidays bud.
@@DiscoveringMtG I agree, but at the same time I have found sellers not respond, or be very ridiculous. Like let's say a they list a card that others are selling for $20, and they list it for $22 with "Buy it now or Best Offer". I'll ask $18ish, they can easily sell it for $19 to me, instead of responding with $21.50 or $21.75, not even attempting to meet half way. Usually, I just put an acceptable offer out there, if they bite or are reasonable, cool, if not, I honestly would rather they not even list it with "or Best Offer" and wasting everyone's time. It must be a habit on their end.
The offers are usually for bulk, like for $5 cards, I might go 3 for $12 ($1 off each card), but asking for 80% off is ridiculous unless the card is really selling everywhere for cheap, and even then I wouldn't expect anything to go near 50% or higher.
I don't even know how people make money selling cards under $3-5, the gas and time, it feels like it would be a loss.
@@Goblin_Hands Great point! In my experience meeting half way with a reasonable offer gets my items sold without having to go back and forth and beat around the bush. Most of the time i do get lazy on updating my listings to adjust to current market prices and having the OBO feature gives buyers the option to send me a price that is more reasonable than the original listed price without me having to constantly update hundreds of listings.
There's many reasons why some sellers don't respond to offers. Disgruntled from too many low ball offers, life, using OBO as an advertising technique, don't have time for what it's worth, etc. Whatever the case i hope you end up catching some great deals out there. I really enjoy the game of MTG and not only playing the game but dabbling in every aspect the game has to offer as player, collector, buyer, seller, artist, creator, the list goes on and on.
It's helped me discover and learn many things about not only myself, but about others and applying those skills to my everyday life to be better in general. Take care bud and never stop collecting!
Great video. I've been selling collectibles on eBay for years, but I don't offer free shipping. My minimum tier shipping rate is $3.49 shipping per small package with an option to combine multiple orders. I generally do not sell MTG singles on eBay, I feel that by the time you factor in time, shipping material costs and fees, you might as well buy list your cards to a store.
Every since ebay started adding the "shipping cost" rating to the feedback I haven't done anything with charged shipping, I keep everything free shipping because I don't want the dings for shipping costs.
in my experience, whether you charge free shipping or charge shipping, it depends on the category you're in. In comic books, charging shipping works better, but with cards, free shipping is alot more common. For some reason, on some items you just have to charge shipping to do well, and others not. You just have to study the category you're in and find out what the norms are in each one.
Ebay standard envelope is the way to go for cards under 20$.
0.53 shipping with tracking I've sold 52 cards with it and have had no issues and about 20 positive feedback. Best way to make the most money back.
I know it makes much more sense financially but I just don't want to risk it.
I sell tons on that new ebay shipping I'll even give up to a $2 discount if the bids pass the $20 mark to save me money on shipping expenses plus no gas trip just drop off a few hundreds of cards at the mall box , I had a few cards lost but I called ebay gave all the item numbers and they honor the insurance and refund me
I can ship 3 cards at .53 cents with soft sleevs hard plastic and two cardboard sheets
6 cards at .73 cents and 9 cards at .93 cents
@@oldschoolmtg dont worry im the same way. Im not selling anything that you just throw in an envelope and let er fly. Will 100% lead to more defects at some point and im tryna keep my ebay alive. Plus, it helps weed out bad buyers. The cheapest buyers cause the most problems.
USPS in NOT losing 10% of the mail people send out.
Pretty sure that's not what I said, I was referring to if you put a card in a regular envelope with a regular stamp you'll lose 10% because sometimes the top loaders mess up the sorters and without tracking some people will "claim" they never got it.
@@oldschoolmtg tcgplayer single-card sellers do not lose 1/10 envelopes shipped.
If that were the case, people wouldn't use tcgplayer at all.
You didn't even go into Non-machineable Mail Stamps. Insinuating that the post office is a giant paper shredder and a large number of customers are dishonest is just hyperbole.
Are you sure you're not biased because you have committed to paying so much extra for shipping?
Ebay standard envelopes have tracking btw. I don't remember you mentioning that either.
You may think you've reinvented the wheel here, but this industry has been going for alot longer than you've been a part of it, and it just wouldn't work if what you're saying was true.
But what do I know? I'm just a guy that sells 100-200 cards a month and is still waiting for my first envelope to disappear. Maybe IM biased.
The standard ebay envelope has really helped the cost of shipping. Any card under 20 is 53 cents. Just don't sell 24ish dollar cards. You get less than if just sell for 20.
Pwe shipping makes me cringe. When I ship cards I put in top loader then put in team bag wrap invoice around the card(s) put all that in a 8×4 bubble mailer. I know going that extra mile will bring those customers back and the positive feedback is extra bonus.
Exactly!
I just started selling on TCGplayer probably a month ago and so far it's been very easy to do. Already sold around 10 cards
I'm up to 218 sales since I started in May. I'll do another video about the bad experiences when I get a chance also lol.
I just started doing this about 3 weeks ago. Its even worse for me here in Canada because shipping is absolutely insane.
@@FalconStrikeGames how much do you pay for 1 or 2 cards coast to coast?
@@Gogies777 buying is not an issue. I usually pay for standard letter mail which if it doesnt show up ebay will take my side as the buyer. As a seller, for the more expensive cards i need to ship with tracking otherwise if it gets lost or the buyer claims they never received it ive lost both the cost of shipping and the card itself. Coast to coast is around $18 CAD
I don't understand your numbers logic. You spend $3.50 extra on every card (estimated for box and ship vs top loader and envelope) so in 10 orders you are spending $35 more so you can save one damaged card return? Aren't you spending more unless 3 cards have to be refunded? Assuming $15 average card sales. Is this because you are concerned more about feedback?
Yes, feedback is very important to me, I'm 100% positive.
I use bubble mailers. Never have an issue.
Selling magic card singles is a worthless endeavor lol. None of the cards are simply worth enough. 10 bucks is my minimum as well and i usually avoid even that. I also charge shipping on cards, i aint effin with the cheap shipping, to much risk, but i will say it does make it harder to compete with ppl using it, but at least some buyers prefer higher shipping if it means more secure shipping.
But anyway, cards are about 15% of my inventory. Comics are way easier to make a real profit on than cards, with less work, better buyer base, etc.
But yes, ALL types of cards, even basketball cards, are hard to flip in singles, and out of all them, Magic is probably the worst one to try to flip the singles. In my experience, its near impossible to make any profit. I sold a goldspan dragon for 20 and thats about it. And to sell them in lots, u gotta give em away
Small boxes from Uline is cheap.
