My absolute favorite band. I could spend hours studying each musicians part. If you want your mind really blown watch Matt Gartzkas drum playthroughs. He can drum in and around all these complex time signatures. He's not human.
Cool thing about this song: It came from a drum composition by their drummer Matt Gartska. Tosin and Javier wrote their guitar pieces around Matt's drums.

The technique you're wondering about (one you said was like slap-back delay) is called selective picking, and it sounds like delay because he's hitting each note twice there (hammer on from nowhere + pick). Gives it a huge delay/percussive sound

Wow... This is not for the faint of heart. It's brilliant, but i'm not sure it's going to end up on my playlist. That being said, if you're in for instrumental music, maybe you should give Long Distance Calling a listen. Try Black Paper Planes (Live) (ua-cam.com/video/sFAf3ugFeGI/v-deo.html). It's one of my favorites. Anyways, keep up the good work. For some reason i always come back here..🙂
Jeez, my brain hurts already! If I were to accompany you to that upcoming gig I would be really grateful for Dream Theater and Devin to finally show up after these dudes! Not exactly sure what to make of this... I surely understand the musical greatness of this band and their music but, Celine Dion is also great at what she does🙉, it's just not for me 😁
Nonetheless, I wish you a great gig buddy, I hope you may enjoy every progressive note out there that night!
