- Alliums are such an important plant in my June Garden. We plant the bulbs in the Autumn and now they are in full bloom
In this video I’m talking about three different Allium varieties and also some great companion plants. For me garden design it’s not just about colors. I’m also very focused on form and structure. And here Alliums in it’s own liga!

My name is Claus Dalby, and I live in Risskov on the outskirts of Aarhus in Denmark. To date, I have written about 30 books on flowers and gardens in Danish, and my garden has been featured on many TV shows. In March 2022 my first book in English will be available. I consider my home (built in1908), and its garden with its neighboring wood, as my sanctuary. When I started gardening in 1996, there was just a large lawn covering approximately 1 acre (4,000 square meters), but today the grass is long gone - replaced by 15 hedged rooms with varying colors and moods. Additionally, one of my great passions is growing in pots, arranged to create spectacular container gardens, which I will share quite a bit about on this channel. Decor and creating moods have always interested me - both outside and inside - and I love to use the flowers from my garden for bouquets and to inspire other crafts that create a sense of hygge.

Hi Gwen, look at Hadeco bulbs site in early autumn they had Alium bulbs for sale. I planted some from Hadeco this year and am eagerly awaiting

Love the alliums.....just gorgeous. I’ll share a cute story about alliums. About 40 years ago when we had bought our 1st house I created flower beds and had planted several groups of alliums. The year they bloomed and were at their peak......my oldest son and his neighborhood friend decided they were “ but Mom they were so pretty”. The boys cut all of my alliums down and put them in his little red wagon and went around our little cul de sac and sold them to the neighbors!!!! My neighbors were stunned since they knew how excited I was about them finally blooming. I never look at alliums without smiling about that day:) (the boys were 4 at that time)

I live the US in zone 8. I planted the bulbs in the fall, mine are struggling. Here in zone 8 in the US we have 90-100 degrees daily.

They are such wonderful flowers, are they not!
I am so happy to hear someone say alliums dont need full sun. I planted my globemaster in a full sun area they lasted about a week and went brown they couldnt take the heat we had that week. So their seeds won't develope this year either. I moved the bulbs to another spot where they will get half sun half shade.

I had one variety (drumstick), added two purchased varieties, the birds shared a different variety from a neighbor (one seed head measured 7.5 inches!), and this year another variety popped up. Thank you birds. And now I think I must have some white ones. All are welcome!

How fun to have a bubble garden! I wanted to start a Globe garden with the purple alliums and the Drumstick allium, Billy Button, Gomphrena and blue globe thistle but so many varieties were out of stock. Still, my purple alliums and drumstick alliums look so whimsical swaying in the breeze. Your gardens are magical, thank you for showing them!
