Just picked up an A6700 and this was very helpful for getting started, especially the tips on setting up the "camera set memory" part. Been shooting Nikon for years and this is my first step into the Sony/slog3 game, looking forward to seeing what it is capable of! Also, looks like your subscriber base has grown quite a bit in the last 6 months!
This video is fine but you should explain WHY you have these settings. I am a newbie to videography and these settings are a different language. Perhaps another video?
Jett, I appreciated how you described your frustration with deleting the wrong video. We've been there, but it is exasperating. I've subscribed to support a fellow UA-camr. Thanks for sharing. My a6700 arrives next week. I'm trying to learn the best way to use it to improve my outdoor adventures videos. Your suggestions are a big help. Thanks!
Very helpful video. I watched it multiple times now, because I think I might be missing something all the time. I only have the kitlens 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 and film with the a6700 while using your exact settings. In some situations I use ISO 800 and some 2500 and because I still get extremely grainy footage I used AUTO ISO which sometimes goes up to 6400. That obviously is very grainy. But why do I keep getting grainy footage when filming in ISO 2500 Slog3? Is the kitlens the reason or am I just missing something? I try to have good lighting (when it is possible), but I only have one keylight. I used it to get more light on myself. The room was not dark at all, because I shot the video around 4PM when it was quite "bright" inside my room. I really don't understand why I have grainy footage. Please help me. And grading shouldn't be the problem either, because even the log footage looks grainy before editing.
Hey! So I'd stay away from using auto ISO. The kit lens is great but if your doing talking head videos id recommend the Sigma 16mm f1.4 because that low aperture really helps with noise reduction because you don't need to move the iso above 800. The key thing here is to light your setup for your camera. You might look at your room with all the light on and think its bright but in camera it might not appear that way. So when lighting your video look at what the camera is telling you (though the histogram or light meter). Because you might find you need to make your lights brighter. S-log3 always looks grainy before you colour grade it. The idea is you over expose your Slog 3 to 1.7 on the light meter and then in post you bring those levels down which then reduces noise. I think I might make a video about this because it's kind of hard to explain through a comment aha.
Thank you! I guess I will invest in a softlight first and then upgrade my lens. A video on overexposing and grading slog 3 would be very nice :) @@jettreels
As a newbie to video recording versus stills and in my 70th year, it was all rather too fast for me to follow along with. Do you have a cheat sheet perchance? I assume mode 1 was for general regular video recording. You said 3 was for ultra slow motion but not sure what you set two for and what you use it for. Many thanks.
Hey! I’m sorry it was too fast! 💨 correct about 1 and 3. 2 is for standard slow motion. I’d recommend watching the video in 0.5 the speed. You can do this on the setting wheel on the bottom right of the video. Hope this helps! 💪

Just wondering. Is it possible to export these settings to some kind of storage device? This way, one could change them to one’s favourite photo settings in the camera if you wanted to do photos, and then re-import the 3 video settings again when needed.
Thanks for making the video. just bought a 6700 too and trying to configure the settings for a cinematic result. May I ask why you choose 25p over 24p? and XAVC S over XAVC HS? I also switched to S-log3 but under [Shooting -> Image Quality/Rec -> Log Shooting Setting -> Log Shooting (On)/Colour Gamut S-Log3] But this disables the Picture Profile selection. Wondering if this is just the same thing or not as choosing Picture Profiles.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. So I chose 25p because of where I’m at in the world. I believe if your in the Uk it’s 25p and if your in the US then it’s 24. When you first turn the camera on it will ask you for your region. And depending on where you are, those frame rates change. XAVC S is higher quality than XAVC HS. And XAVC S-I 4k is even higher quality then both of them. However the file sizes are massive. And it’s not that different to s 4k (sorry if that is really confusing lol) About the S-log… Image Quality/Rec -> Log Shooting Setting > Log Shooting turn off. We turn S-log on in the colour/tone menu. Hope this helps! JR

Hey! I’m not sure exactly what it is however, when you’re using S-Cinetone check what ISOs have a line between them. So for S-log anything under 800 will have a line above and under the number. This symbolises that you’re under the base iso. Sorry if this comes across confusing 🫤 😂

I dont think you have to go thru ALL the setting when setting up your memory wheel presets after you saved the first one.. Just change only the functions you want to change and save it. And yeah, this is an AWESOME camera!!
If you are wanting to go mainly for video then the fx30 is great. It takes 12 Megapixel photos which isn’t amazing but not too bad. The a6700 has the exact same sensor so video quality is the exact same as the fx30. The a6700 is £500 cheaper and takes better photos. Unfortunately it’s a very hard question to answer because they are so similar. The key difference is the fx30 has a fan so it won’t over heat.
Just a question, I’m kind of new on this, I have a prograde v90 SD card, but it does not give me the option to 25p, I’ve checked out twice, but it does not give me the option.
Ahh I see okay. So in different places in the world it changes. So I think for America it’s 24, 30, 60, and 120p but in places like the UK (where I am) it’s 25, 30, 50, and 100p. There isn’t much difference between them and I’m not really sure why it’s like this.
