  • Another upgrade to the Superduty to better prepare it for hauling around the new RV. Our truck did come with stock Rancho shocks because we have the FX4 package, but we needed to upgrade to something with a little more adjustability for when we are towing or not towing. These RS999047A beefy big boys will do just nice for what we need. Really easy install.

    Helped a lot for a first timer. Really surprised how simply these go in when you have the right tools. Thanks for showing it.

    There's a guy selling a tool on Ebay for the Rs9000xl adjustment knob. Trail Gear Solutions. He has a video on here. Definitely a must have for these shocks and worth $15 .💪👍🤙🇺🇸

    I am going to do these on my warranty replacements before I install them. I had them installed for 4.5 years and they were rusty and both began to leak oil.

      @@Jimmy2Tech got it done but in hindsight what do y’all do when the new shock is like 1/8 -3/16 th wider then the bracket

      @Jimmy2Tech  3 роки тому

      Hello Eazyridin 72
      It is not unusual for the shock to be a little wider, You can usually use a dead blow hammer and help it in or spread the bracket open just a tad to allow it to fit. But if it is way off you might have the wrong shock.

    I'm surprised Rancho hasn't started putting better coatings on these things yet

      For sure, even with the extra steps you will still see rust is certain areas. They could do better.

    Great content guys, I have a question regarding my 2008 F250. I use this truck for offroad purpose only and the rear end is too bouncy some said u can't get any improvements unless you start upgrading the leaf suspension. is it true not worth buying performance shocks with stock leaf suspension?

    IMPORTANT QUESTION... Do you UNLOCK the shock upper rod before taking off the adjustment dial cover? I installed 3 out of 4 Rancho RS9000XL shocks on my 2007 Hummer H2 SUV yesterday. THREE of the shocks installed easily, I removed the adjustment dial cover like you advised, greased the piston cylinder and dial extruder, reassembled it THEN PRIMED the shocks and installed them with no issue.
    THEN on the 4th and last shock, I loosened the left hex bolt on the adjustment dial cover and turned the right hex bolt half a turn... AND THE SHOCK EXPLODED... the adjuster piston shot out 15 feet across my garage floor, I could not find the adjustment dial cover for half an hour of looking... MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL UNDER PRESSURE shot out, covered the front of my Hummer, my shirt was soaked in oil, my pants and shoes were trashed by the oil, the table was covered in oil as was my IPhone 12 Pro Max.
    I quickly unlocked and extended the upper rod of the shock to ease the pressure of the oil which continuously shot out of the adjustment dial piston cylinder.
    IT WAS A MESS!
    After looking over the parts spread around my garage floor, I am quite certain, the shock was faulty, I think the adjustment piston retainer ring was cracked or broken and honestly, I think the only thing holding the piston in place was the adjustment dial cover.
    HOWEVER... I am pretty sure I greased the adjustment piston cylinder behind the adjustment dial BEFORE I unlocked the rod end of the shock and before I primed the shock.
    ****** Being SHOOK by the explosive nature of the experience yesterday, I am now hesitant and a bit CONCERNED about removing the adjustment dial to grease it on the NEW replacement shock I hope arrives soon.
    I just want CLARIFICATION to make sure I did things right... Do I keep the upper rod LOCKED as it is when it arrives BEFORE I remove the adjustment dial cover? Pretty sure I did on the three UNeventful installs.
    Or do I UNlock the shock from it's shipping mode prior to removing and greasing the adjustment dial cover?
    Contacted the seller am waiting to hear about a new replacement shock.
    After my experience yesterday, I may take the new replacement shock out in the back yard away from everything, before I remove the adjustment dial cover, just in case. I mean... my garage was covered in oil when the shock exploded.
    Thanks for any advice you can offer.

      Wow, I would say it is a faulty shock for sure. It should not shoot oil out of it for no reason. Sorry you had to deal with that. Hope you got it straightened out.

    Do you think a silicone paste would protect the gasket, plunger valve, and also inside?

    So I have to ask This. I just got a couple of these along with the front for leaking magnaride shocks on my denalli. One of the new shocks had zero rebound and after sitting for 10 minutes had only rebounded 2".
    The other one would rebound all the way but compared to the rear magnaride was less than 50% the stiffness.
    I put the magnaride back on the back and hoping the front struts are better than the experience with the rear 9000.

      Sorry for the delay in response, seems the comment got lost in the shuffle. I thought the same thing so I called Rancho and asked them and they told me that they are made to absorb the bumps not push back that much but they will get a little more push to them after they are cycled on the truck a few times. Hope this helps.

    Hi, I've got a Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997 sport 4L that had a 4" suspension lift. the shock absorbers on it at the moment are hard and uncomfortable do you know if there is a set of Rancho adjustable shock absorbers plus 4" that will fit my Jeep and where to buy them from ? Please help me cos I'm stuck, I'm in the UK and I can't find them here. thanks
    Kind regards

      You can go to gorancho.com. They have a great search tool to see if they have one that fits your jeep. Being that Jeeps are so popular, I am almost sure they do.

    With air bags it must be hard to tell what the shocks are doing.Thinking about putting fronts on my 1 ton.

      @Jimmy2Tech  2 роки тому

      Hello Scott,
      What we did was put the shocks on first for a couple weeks and messed with them to learn how they rode. Then after we installed the air bags we had a better idea where to adjust it.

      @@Jimmy2Tech Thanks for info...What did you discover with the settings?

    • @Jimmy2Tech
      @Jimmy2Tech  2 роки тому +3

      @@2hotscottpro Pretty much setting 6 on the shocks is like the factory ride and going below that there is not much of a difference unless you have a load on. A lot depends on what load you have. For us when we had our RV hooked up which is a 5th wheel, we turned the shocks all the way to 9 and had 70 lbs in the air bags to get the level ride we liked. But we were close to the max load according to the towing specifications of the manufacture. So most other things we tow we can keep shocks at 6 and adjust air bags as needed. We always keep 10lbs in airbags .
