  • Well I am finally moving into my brand new dream shed! There is still a long way to go with getting this place setup for building & modifying 4wds but in this episode we get the floor ground & painted with epoxy & I take care of a couple of jobs on the GU to get it driving better & quieter & most of all, MORE LEGAL! One step closer to engineering!

    Congrats on the new shed...awesome video mate...I can't weld to save my life but what this channel does just makes me wanna have a crack...in the past the vehicles I let go it peeves me off the knowledge I have now I realise they were keepers if I had some confidence with DIY back then....cheers mate I'm always watching and learning....UA-cam and this channel has been a good tool....you don't just build a 4x4 you explain everything the reasons and purpose that makes sence to someone like me that has basically little knowledge....

    Great ep as usual. Question about the sound deadening - how does it go getting wet and will you use it on the rear wall? Also how thick did your shed floor need to be for the hoist?

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  5 місяців тому +1

      Sound deadener can get wet just fine, especially the stage 1 it’s literally just rubber and aluminium, it’s all through the GQ under the vinyl and that frequently gets filled with water, as for stage 2 if you’re gonna get water in, use the waterproof one. The slab thickness varies hoist to hoist but some say 100mm, some say 150mm 👍🏻

    I have found most of the noise in my old patrol would come through the rear of the cab. Maybe worth sound deadening there as well, I figured this out when I would pack all my clothes and bedding behind the seats it was dead quiet.

    Hey Mate! Thinking of doing the exact same as I’m also sick of an almost identical passenger side dump on my gu that I also botched out of the previous exhaust. Is that just 3” stainless you used? Also what thickness? Did you just use a mig welder? Awesome content keep it up👍

    • @timmyhasheart

      Hey mate cheers, yeah so it’s just 3” aluminised mild which is just what most exhaust places would have, and yeah just a mig mate, I could have tigged up something pretty and stainless but honestly I just don’t care enough about that kind of thing, it’s a dirty old diesel 4wd haha

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  5 місяців тому

      Haha it would be!! My hoist is on the way! I certainly don’t envy routing dumps & pipes from 2 turbos on 2 sides of a Patrol that’s for sure. I didn’t really have any other choice, don’t like stacks, passo is illegal, and going to the back I always damage the tip when wheeling & its difficult to get over the diff & past the other tank without it rattling or being mounted too stiff so it cracks. 🤝🏻🤝🏻

    • @timmyhasheart
      @timmyhasheart  5 місяців тому

      It depends on what you’re after, and whether you’re going GQ/GU.
      - TD42 is a good platform for reliability, simplicity & resistance to water & dust, but they take a lot of time and money and understanding to make them behave in a overheating aspect and a bottom end aspect, the more torque you make, the more volatile they are.
      - ZD30CRD is what I’d go for if I was coming from a dual cab world and liked the new car driveability, they’re more like your commonrail diesel platform, but have a lot of sensors and expensive things that keep them ticking along. Water ingress in fuel etc is a sure way to quickly cop a 10k diesel parts bill. But they’re proving themselves in the torque and power game.
      - TB48 is a very capable and expandable petrol engine, they’re very reliable, super under tuned from factory and are quite amazing if you bung a turbo at them but can be thirsty especially if you’re towing.
      Personally I wouldn’t go near the TB45.
      These are all the main GU engines, there’s also ZD30DI, RD28 and TB45 but personally I wouldn’t go near these but if you’re talking a GQ, then there’s also a TB42 carby and TB42 EFI, I wouldn’t go near a TB42 carby but I’d happily have the TB42 EFI.
      Hope this helps mate.
