- Step by step walking you through how i rebuild a landcruiser diff using the best ‘off the shelf’ parts and then bolt them into my fj45! Hope this video might help some people get a better understanding around diff centres there is a reason specialists exist for this kind of job but doesn't mean you cant have a crack yourself!
Genuinely dont think there is another video around showing the detail on diffs that this one has. Good job.
Thanks mate! Kind of the reason i made it, some of this info i found hard to find when i was learning myself hopefully this video can help some people 😊
@@Unclepoolyit sure did mate, gave me a full understanding of the correct process to diagnose issues etc, appreciate you Pooly! 🤟
It would only take one bolt to stuff it. Once it starts breaking teeth it would just keep going
At this point in time, most of us watching are probably guys or girls who’ve grown up and are done with clickbait UA-cam, and clickbait automotive channels also. To see a down to earth bloke make an informative yet entertaining video with a genuine personality will always have my attention. You, Timmy, Macca. Providing what the people want.
Kind words thanks mate! Love the appreciation 🥰
Awesome vid mate, gone from thinking diff rebuilds were a form of witch craft to I’m more then happy to give it a crack, love ya work mate
Bravo pooley, there is a lack of videos showing this. You have found a market niche.
Im a apprentice and you just explained diffs way better then my tafe lecture 😂
Exactly why i made the video my tafe teacher taught me nothing 🤣
I second this and I was trained by toyota...😂
Pooly, great content that shows knowledge and experience is more important than having all the shiny tools. Keep it coming.
Shiny tools aren’t a bad thing to have either! But very true
Unreal video Uncle. You just helped all of us weekend warriors with a fairly technical job.
BIG STRONG AUSSIE DIFF
Biccc strong ossy diff builder 🤣 glad i could help!
I spend my days covered in sawdust and bashing nails and will probably never rebuild my own diff but this has to be one of the best explanations of how to rebuild a diff I’ve ever seen. Good job mate keep them coming 👍😎
I think your onto something with these style of videos mate, keep it up bloody awesome to watch these build videos, it’s unreal how good you explain everything for such laid back videos 😂😂 becoming my favourite channel pretty quickly
Thanks mate! I like to explain things how i wish they were explained to me 😂
This bloke is all class. "It won't hurt at all"! Love what you're doing brother 😂
Thanks mate! 😂
Uncle pooly always showing how it’s done and doing it properly. Keen to see what else you bring out
thanks uncle pooly good too see a down to earth guy explaining things in detail. legend 🍻
Loving your content Pooly! Keep it coming! I could listen/watch you talk to the camera all day!!!!
Thats deadset the no Bullshit version of explaining how to rebuild a diff
Love it
That’s probably the easiest to follow diff built video on the internet top job. Can’t wait for more
Best diff rebuild video I’ve seen mate thanks pooly
Great video, only thing I wanted to add is when you putting the flange on the pinion, never strike it with a hammer, as you will dig the edge of the rollers in the bearing into the race and cause micro marks, sometimes small dents.. which then transfer to rollers and causes a pattern around bearing and noise. You might get away with it but if you inspect races you’ll see what I mean.. and you can feel it while turning by hand. Massive respect for showing a whole video of doing this process 👌🏻
Hey mate appreciate your comment and now that you have pointed it out i agree, can see how it would do exactly that
Probably wont be building any more diffs for a while but i’ll be setting up on the press next time!
Please never change these videos are all time!!
Mate, this is the best stuff I’ve seen on UA-cam in a long while. Loving the in depth content and how you deliver it. Keep it up mate, I’m a big fan
Gday Polly, This is the best diff build video i've seen, explained in normal language that I understand, Bloody brilliant mate, Thanks, Cheers
Thanks mate! Its refreshing to read comments like this i was honestly nervous to post this video because of people that may do things differently to me or disagree but just wanted to explain it how i would have liked it explained to me!
I don’t know anything about diffs and still found the video entertaining as. Loving the content🍻
from someone who is about to do a heavy diesel apprenticeship thanks for the vids uncle they are awesomely detailed and fun to watch
Good luck mate!
Thanks pooly this video is giving me the confidence to be able to get the diffs out on my and fix them when the need arises so thanks for that. Video will be getting saved
I have no interest in ever doing a diff myself pooly but watched every minute! Great vid mate keep it up!
Thanks mate glad to hear it!
Another great video mate - absolutely killing it bruzzy!! Loving the technical knowledge, mixed with real experience and workmanship - keep it coming mate.
Thanks mate it was a very helpful video keep the videos rolling mate
That was the best diff build video I've ever seen. On ya Pooly. 🍻
Uncle Pooly! This is the vid I was looking for months ago, thankyou for delivering. Awesom info
Thanks Pooly, I have a couple of lockers in the shed waiting to go in the cruiser, your video has just given me the inspiration, to have a crack myself and save the money, for new suspension. Looking forward to more of your DIY sessons 👍
very nice detailed video keep up the good work love watching you boys out doing wheeling and fixing and upgrading the rigs
Great video, super in depth. Keep pumping them out can’t wait to see baz on the tracks
Keep it up bud great content and will be a 100% supporter bud love the work and knowledge your video taught me and many others
Your a bloody good UA-camr Pooley and you've only just started stick with it love your work
Thanks mate appreciate the comment 🙏
This is probably the best and best explained diff builds I've seen detail was awesome keep up the content.
Cracking episode bud. Love the tech in it. Can’t wait for this thing to be out with the wire strainers on the back.
Between you and Timmyhasheart you guys will have all the Toyota's and Nissan's covered with the detailed info we need 😎🤙
probably the two best doing it at the moment
Just stumbled across this channel. I'm not a 4WD guy, but bloody good content none-the-less. Thanks for the video!
good work pooly love the quality of videos and explanations
Fkn awesome dude, best one yet, such a good watch!!
Cheers uncle timmy 🥰
Absolutely loved these type of videos. Keep the killer content coming please😊
Pooly, great content that shows knowledge and experience
Great informative vid mate 👌🏼 and that’s definitely a bolt or part of it that decided to say hi to the ring and pinon gear.. I work in the Motorsport Gearbox industry and see loose bolts ect occasionally too..
Keep up the great content 😊👍🏼
I just rebuilt the rear of my 105 with an elocker and solid spacer bearing kit from terrain tamer so the process is fresh with me. I watched every video I could find online and went into a few local shops to me which gave me the best pointers that the videos didn’t. Your video made the process way more simple than what it actually is. I’m surprised you set all the pinion with seals etc. without knowing the correct pinion depth. did you not film that part? many people will say to not use shims with the solid spacer and im sure many would argue thats fine however given the title of the video I thought maybe you’d shim the outer pinion bearing closer to the spacer so you didn’t need the shim because that could only be a stronger way to do it. What stops the carrier bearing rotating on the locker? Plenty of guys would say to knurl that surface. Preloading those carrier bearing adjuster caps with screwdrivers is a first. Anyone who thinks this video is detailed should keep watching, lots of important info left out. Nevertheless, like watching your vids, keep em coming
Hey mate thanks for your comment and i agree with all of it quite a few things i left out of the video it wasn’t meant to be a tutorial as stated im not an diff specialist but i just wanted to share my experience and explain in a way that i would have liked it explained to me as for pinion depth i had just built two other diffs both re-using the depth washer from the existing pinions and the depth was correct so i took a gamble with this one and installed the seal and it was all correct as expected. for the solid spacer shim i didn’t need it anyway just showed using it for the purpose of the video, i undone everything in the video and pulled it back out but id happily put it where i did put it if needed, it can’t be installed elsewhere to shim the bearing preload it has to go there and i can’t see it affecting strength once all done up tight eliminating the crush factor of the crush tube is the main thing for me
As for carrier bearings, brand new locker brand new bearing i had to use a press to install it the bearing fit was tight i can see why you would knurl it though i guess thats the difference between a diff specialist and me!
Awesome work mate , best diff vid I’ve seen , love all ya videos keep it up we could watch this stuff all day 👍
Thanks mate! 🙏
Super educational, keep them coming!!!
Uncle pooly this has to be the best diff video i have ever watched on youtube, also you if we had a opinion on why the old diff exploded. i’m a 3rd diesel mechanic down in dandy and we had a newish freightliner come in with 60,000 k’s on the clock, boys down at the frieghtliner factory left the crown wheel bolts loose exactly like that one, 2 came out and ran through everything exactly like that and the rest either snapped or bent. also found that the preload was out on the pinion and they bent the shims somehow. sorry for the word vomit, keep up the great vids please mate 🤙
another cracking video pooly, loving this form of content keep it up real entertaining and informative
Bloody unreal episode mate!! Great detail on a diff in a fun exciting way nailed it!
Killing it like always uncle pooly. This is what everyone needs to see. Keep up the epic vids .
About to build my first diff. Thanks, Uncle!
yet another Ripper vid Pooly, love the level of detail that you went into with this video mate super helpful and informative would love to see more content like this mate keep up the wicked videos 🤙
Thanks for the comment mate! Glad you enjoyed it and hope that it helps a few people
Awesome detail and a great show of knowledge
Pooly the diff teacher, great work fella. Can we get a shed tour
Thanks for all the effort mate great content.
Mate honestly well done for going into such detail and making it simple for beginners. Big things coming your way for sure mate ❤
Its scary going into this much detail for so many people to see 😂 but refreshing to read comments like this thanks mate really appreciate it!
As always pooly another phenomenal video keep up the amazing work
love this kind of content, great detail for people trying to learn
Good work Pooly keep up the good work mate. You should jump on a plane and come to the Brisbane 4WD show next weekend and have a few beers.
Would have loved to mate! Unfortunately very busy with work and making these videos i dont have that much spare time or money to do it!
Uncle Pooly's Big Dummy's guide to build different. Well done mate you dun good! Having been a heavy plant fitter, you have to use the tools and tackle that's available at the time.
man this video was brilliant, honestly done so well!
Talk about flash back to my trade school days keep up with the awesome videos love your content awesome 🤙🤙🤙🤙
Appreciate it mate cheers!
your doing a superb job pooly will be a great combination your hard work is coming together has the best of both worlds the barra my favorite engine and well its a Toyota my favored brand ....of 4WD
Great vid uncle.
The second I seen the bolt missing I knew that’s what had caused the damage. Just hope Mac found the bolt and removed it from the housing before he installed the new centre you built.
Any way your content is great👍
There was a lot of broken metal in the housing and im sure he cleaned it out! Definitely unfortunate sadly sounds like a common problem hope my loctite holds up! 😂
Awesome video mate I learned heaps from this keep them coming cheers 🤙🏻
Very well explained and still an entertaining video. Awesome work!
Wicked job missed important part about the back of ring gear mating surface. Being clean and having minimal runout, help keep the fence straight 😉
Good point, you are right definitely an important step! especially if re - using old parts
I actually forgot to hit record on the whole part of installing the ring gear so my bad 😂 rookie youtube error
Once again Pooly, the diff, suspension, chassis, engine, gearbox and fence specialist ensures nothing shall go wrong with big bad bazzzz 🍗🛻
I dont know about nothing going wrong how about we say less things ‘might’ go wrong* 😂
One of the Best video by far on the internet
Unreal vid mate can not wait to see this thing done.
G'day uncle pooly. Just wanna say your a legend for deciding to do YT videos. Great content mate 🤙
Top vid done by a real bloke that has the knowledge. The oil slingers are different to suit high vs low pinion😉👍
Interesting mate! hi pinion needing a bit more help up out of the oil makes sense thanks for the info
When I was building diffs for a living I would heat the crown wheel up then install it to the carrier and torque it up. Makes a world of difference and ensures a proper tension as normally you have to flog the crown wheel onto the Carrier with a rubber mallet
Machinist here that builds diffs regularly, good job got most of the main things correct I would suggest investing in a copper hammer and getting a solid spacer machined once the crush spacer or shimmed spacer is used to set correct pre load 👍
Thanks mate copper hammer would be handy! I used a big copper punch about 1” diameter to install the ring gear as an alternative
Nice one, just subed that was a great tutorial. I'd be confident to rebuild a Landcruiser diff now. Mind you your bloody lightning with a hammer in ya hand, ya never strike the same spot twice lol.
My hand eye coordination is shocking 🤣 never hold the punch for uncle pooly
Awesome vid Pooly will be using this as reference in the near future keep em coming
When pooly used the big sledge hammer I said to my self big strong Aussie boy
🤣🤣
🤣🤣
Awesome content mate I have to do this job tomorrow thanks for your help!
great video, keep these up they are superb and really appreciated pooly
Awesome video. Really enjoyed it! Keep the good work up!
Thank you uncle pooly bloody legendary!!
Yeah that’s good info. I’ll be coming back for this one day when I pop a diff 😂👍
Keep them coming Pooly great work
Another absolute ripper of a vid mate. Keep it up 👌
Mate your a fucking weapon,
If you got a patreon with this stuff id be the first to sign up...
Thanks mate!
Wicked video, good that you didn’t use the thin shim too. In my experience those thin solid spacer shims will fret and end up wearing away to nothing giving you a loose preload 👌
Thanks Unc Pooly for the quality content 👌🏼 love ya work
Loving your work, mate.
Your a Poole of knowledge mate! 🤪
Love the content
I've been thinking of getting a n80 but really want one of those 2.8 79's cause love solid front axel.
Hey Pooly, loving the content, it's funny, informative, great edits and music. Keep it up mate 👍🤙. Greetings from Slovenia
Fun fact about Slovenia: if you look at the map it's shaped like a chicken but sadly we have only one KFC 😭 and i live more than two hours away from it
☹
just had a look on the maps and it is too! 😂 shame about the 1 kfc if it makes you feel slightly better i live an hour from kfc 🤣
Another great episode pooly …. Came them coming …. 👍👍👍
Hey mate awesome work made it easy to understand good bants! If you can you should follow dangar marine, he's got the instruction videos finessed. Then put links into your transcript to buy the components, also Skid factory has a good channel. If you had it as a one stop shop for yarns, instruction, and links to parts and part numbers I'm sure people would buy from a drop ship store, most of the lads I work with in fifo would plan a project and buy everything to do it themselves on break. I do it with hoocho who does food hydroponics. You've got the perfect set up and audience from gnarly trips with the boys to workshop builds, sharing your channel with my mates. Good stuff man keep it up !!
Good ideas thanks mate!
Thank you for showing us how to build a diff.I’m mechanical minded and can do minor things on cars but but when it comes to building a diff I would have to take it to a friend of mine who is a diff mechanic.I could take it out by removing the axles and hubs and swivel hubs and do that side of things but not build a diff
I’m really enjoying your videos Pooley Cheers. Lee
pooly's channel is a vibe
Keep it up mate absolutely love it and need to come out for a wheel
Funnily enough, I’m just about to start rebuilding the high pinion diff from my also Barra powered GU. 👍
Perfect timing
Patrol vs cruiser are a little different but principle is the same good luck mate!
@@Unclepooly legend lad. 👌top job on the videos of late too.
Bloody good video uncle Pooly!
Absolute quality video
Very informative ... keep them coming..well done ✔️
Thanks mate appreciate the feedback!
Absoluely love this style of video
Another ripper pooly
Love the uggerduggers
Keep up the good work mate 😂
Uncle Pooley is the right kind of influencer 🔥
