This was the very first time I saw Ryan, I was blown away and went out the next day and bought Gold. 16 years later, and many gigs since watching him, he’s still the very best at conveying heartbreak
Just saw Ryan Adams in San Diego, Monday 12/15/2014, and he did an excellent version/arrangement of this song, which he wrote, with his current band. Fourth time I've seen him in recent years, and the first time he did this signature song--which has been covered by others and many don't realize he wrote. There are a few cool covers of "Stars Go Blue" by the Coors and Bono on UA-cam as well as a popular country version by Tim McGraw. In the best version of this song by Ryan (and by anybody) on UA-cam he's playing with Neil Casals at St. James Church, Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, on June 6, 2007--incredible guitar interplay. (His voice sounds trashed in the version on this current page, like he's got a cold or something . . . ?)
I love ya baby (ryan adams ).......and all of mine. ..and yours, stars go blue. all of them. where do you go when you're lonely. ....I don't know where you go, but for 4 years I've gone alone, so I understand your songs a little better than some.......and if you ever find me, you'll know. right now, I go alone
What I got from it is that as stars move away from us and the sky appears red with the universe expand; when stars go blue, the universe collapses back in on itself. Thus, when her universe collapses in on itself, her relationship at the time failing, he'll still be there for her. Or perhaps Ryan suffered a break-up with someone he'll always love and continue to be there for. Either way, it fits as a metaphor.
Brendan Fisher the pedal steel player is bucky baxter and on guitar is brad rice and billy mercer on bass idk who is playing the sax but on the keys is dan eisenberg
"Later With Jools" is still going strong, in fact it celebrated it's 25th anniversary last month! Ryan Adams has never lived in England. He would have been living in NYC at the time of this recording. Now he lives in LA. I'm assuming he was touring the UK when this was recorded.
Tim McGraw's version is good because it's remains true to this (the original). Personally I like the Ryan Adams version on Gold but there's room in this world for both. versions of this great song. I should volunteer that I don't know shit about music real or otherwise but I have a firm grasp on what I like.
In no world should Tim Freaking McGraw be mentioned in the same sentence with Ryan Adams. One is a genius that rights and plays from the heart. The other is a hack churned out by Music Row that records albums with hack lyrics given to him by the labels. What the hell???? Tim Freakin Mcgraw
It belongs to Ryan Adams the original songwriter who sings it from his soul. TimMcraw covered his way. But he does not own rights to Ryan Adams song. Look up the music facts.
This is pedal steel guitar (not slide guitar), a signature part of 'Ryan Adams and the Cardinals' sound from 2005-09. I like what this guy adds, though he's not on par with original player, Jon Graboff. If anything, I'd lose the cheesy sax, an addition I just don't get unless he was a guest artist, or a member of the Jools Holland house band.
@@robertrichman6873 Totally agree - that sax just has no place there. It's funny how the passing of time can change one's taste. I actually really like the pedal steel guitar sound now....I'm guessing they are an expensive instrument!

It is impossible to destroy this song....

@@robertrichman6873 thank you for your anser!
Hi hunny.. where and who are you girl?
Does anyone know who the band members are in this line-up? The only one I recognise is Brad Pemberton on the drums.

Ryan wrote this song. Sorry Tim Mc Graw ;)
What's wrong with hsi voice there at the beginning?
Didn't know Jools was still on late night. Does Ryan live in England?

i think this is what Augustana was trying to sound like but they were actually better
Why do they always turn into a dark emoji????!!!!

Not sure what the Sax is doing in there, maybe for England?
Live maybe ok ...lol
If you like auto tune and over producing sure...
Love the version he plays now (2017) I hope he records it again without all that dogshit slide guitar.
