I watched Ray Shell sing this again tonight at the CoE concert and he still sounds amazing. It brought back so many great memories of the original production.
Omg. Saw the show 3 times in 1991! What a wonderful memory! No other production in all these years came close to what the original was. Legend!!! Thank you, thank you for uploading!
Ray Shell I know you were in the original cast! You were also in Starlight Express, and years after you left I was the assistant MD on that show. Best Wishes, Alan :-)
Gutted i missed this, look at the young Ruthie Henshall and Richard Lloyd King, i used to drive the lift up and down at Starlight Express when you were there Ray, your Rusty brought a lot of joy to my life, no-one touched your Rusty!, you were 110% in every performance. I remember being at the bottom floor in the lift and you had rushed up from below and were late and you were panicking and you screamed ' Poppa please! and you were so out of breath, i don't know how you made it. Was dreadful that Michael and Tom passed away but i have so many happy memories of working there. Remember when Liza Minelli turned up with that huge baskets of rollos and the cast of Chorus Line the movie. I used to hold raffles and parties in the lift to stop the boredom lol....hope you and your family are well
I saw you in Starlight not long after it opened. Along with the irreplaceable Michael as CB, PP Arnold as Belle, Stephanie as Pearl & so many more amazing artists. My sister & I had front row circle seats - they vibrated every time the hydraulic track barriers went up!

I never managed to see this in the West End. Isnt this clip from a Wogan special? I remember he did some others - Miss Saigon springs to mind.
I was in the original West End company of this it was a blast but the first Iraq war killed the show...shame it was a spectacle!
