I delivered three loads to NYC, the roads are meant for a horse an buggy, not a tractor with a 53’ trailer. On my third and last load there I have come to the conclusion “to hell with NYC and any surrounding areas.” I don’t care if the load is paying 20k, I am not going anywhere near that area. Great job, I know you got stressed out. But hey, you did it.👍👍
If you drove a 53' trailer through NYC local streets, you probably violated the law. The only time you can drive a 53' trailer is if you are going to JFK airport, or passing through to Long Island. All other loads must be broken down into shorter trailers before entering NYC.

@@efil4kizum Probably because somebody wanted to save money. It's possible the shipper was charged for the time and resources to break down the 53 foot trailer load, and decided to pocket the extra money, and just tell the driver to go ahead and deliver the load as is.

Box truck territory. My brother-in-law delivered boxes for Carolina Container with a 53' trailer for many years. His dispatcher apparently did not own a map and would send people on dumb routes including winding mountain roads and back roads not wide enough for couple horses to pass. Usually with only one or two pallets. Then they would have to run back to the shop and get another load.
Because 53' trailers are illegal on local streets in NYC. You can bring a 53' trailer through NYC if you stay on designated roads going to JFK airport or Long Island.
Hey Kevin, I'm new to your channel. As a local truck driver, I can really relate to this. I'm in a day cab, but I can imagine what it’s like to drive a sleeper. Great job, brother!
Reminds me of tight spots I go to in downtown Atlanta. No reason a big truck should be in these areas. I started going at 5am before traffic hits. All about setup and I knew you’d get it done good job driver
Good job Kevin. Been dealing with that nightmare city since 1988. People still parking cars where they are not supposed to. I’ve been to that place Many times I see it’s still a crap hole to get into
Wow!!! That’s a long time to deal with NYC driving conditions! Hats off to your stamina! And how fun to ‘meet’ someone else who has been there!! Keep safe out there and thanks for watching!
Hi, i drive for Crete on the Walmart team out of north Platte. When I did OTR I've been in those situations I have a couple tips for you to consider. When the guys at the dock say it's easier to blind side, believe them. They do this every day. And they don't want you to hit there stuff. Second back slowly and remember you can slide your tandems to change your pivot and turn radius. And get a second head set so your side kick can spot you and you can have solid communication and eliminate yelling to be heard over daily noise and your spotter can move around for better spotting and you don't lose contact even when they step out of sight. Just a couple of things I have done in the past. Always remember when your tandems are forward you have 12 feet of trailer just swinging ready to whip out whatever is around it. lol....
Hello fellow Crete driver! Thank you for those good tips and insights!!! Appreciate it! We use the cell phone sometimes. But not when I need it for filming. 😆😆😆
Those are the same pedestrians I deal with everyday. You just get set up and, bam they just appear. I do ltl deliveries in a 53' liftgate in downtown Tulsa between narrow alleys, roads built for model T's, the homeless, and now droves of tourists. I understand how you felt.
Thanks and welcome to our channel!! We are glad you enjoy our trucking videos!!!! Hope they are helping you flatten that initial steep learning curve! Best of luck out there! Let us know how it’s going!
Not necessarily, he would have probably been better off if he just listened to them and blindsided it. They deal with trucks coming in everyday so they know what they are talking about, the docks looked like they were slanted at a weird angle which is why he struggled so hard because he had to back in at such an awkward and angle with not much room to work with.
Bless you brother for staying in the calm zone - hell of an awkward angle on that whole dock. The best part about those is when you get the paperwork to get the hell out : ) Happy Trails
We should not be taking 53's in there. I would have probably grabbed that phone and thrown it into oncoming traffic. This is stressing me out just watching this. Good job Kevin!
If that company is going to have 53’ trailers coming in. They should have a little yard truck that can maneuver around better, and have a driver who dose that dock all day every day. My bp went up just watching
@@TheJoyofTrucking Kevin, you did great, no outbursts and a cool head the entire time (at least while filming). I hated crossing the Delaware river because there are so many places like that. I told my dispatcher be ready for a refusal the next time. But I never really learned how to say No. Stay safe my friend, since I’m now retired I will continue looking up at Crete Trucks for you.
That company needs a line painted on the ground to assist in backing in, it helps with tight spots having a place to line trailer tires up, and way too many chiefs directing 1 and only 1 should be guiding driver
I hate how some intersections allow vehicles to park that close to the edge. For this reason. Good job in the turn though. I love watching these tight turn videos. It’s a skill I do great at, but it seems rare because of a lot of new drivers they do not know their truck, clearances, and have no confidence and these are the ones who would have had to do that first turn in my maneuvers haha but you did great. Fun to watch. I’m all for the more difficult, the more challenging the more I love it haha.
Outstanding, good job sir, I think you're exactly right they need to offload product onto a smaller truck and then bring it in that way. When I finally start driving I'm going to take your advice and put the entire state of New York on my never go to list. Good job guys, awesome video, thank you
😆Actually you can feel more confident about Crete. After they saw this video they called Kevin and told him that no driver should be put in that kind of situation and that they would be making changes. We don’t know what the changes are, but we think it’s another sign how they care for their drivers. And in over two years that was the only time he had a load to NYC with Crete. We think it’s a great, stable company. It’s still trucking, of course, so nothings perfect, but we are very happy here. You can check out their website for details. And let us know if you have any questions we can help with. Who do you drive for now?
You are very lucky that you had the freightliner. With the kenworth would've been more stressful. Radius turn isn't that good. But great job, Kevin. Awesomeness keeping your focus ❤
I see the yellow line to Kevin’s left into the dock, idk why he was overturning way too much when it was there to guide him. Unless I’m seeing something else. One tip another UA-cam trucker @AlexNino gives, and I think it actually works, is small movements, not over do it on the steering wheel. Otherwise you end up doing what Kevin was doing. Glad it all worked out, that’s what matters. 👍🏼
Thanks! He was trying not to end up too far to the left so he’d be able to make a left turn when leaving. Then it turned out taking a right was a better way to leave. 🤦♀️
Wow! New York City?! Mad respect to you. They say that attitude is everything. Yours is inspiring. Watching YOUR day out on the road made mine seem less stressful. Lol. Keep up the good work. And stay safe. 🙏🏻👊🏻
Wow that was painful to watch. I've run NYC and Long island with a W 900 and a 359 pete but thank God I did it with 45 and 48 foot trailers. My hats off to Kevin for not loosing his religion on camera. I definitely don't have the patience for that stuff anymore. Thanks for sharing.
They definitely need to have a smaller truck to deliver to them. You are definitely one great driver. That place should be straight truck delivery only.
Damn! That'll make a man outta ya! Absolutely absurd that a road truck is delivering there. Like Kevin said, a last mile truck, or 4, should be doin this delivery. Ridiculous. Great job, Brother Kevin! That's not easy. As always, y'all, travel safely...👍🏼❤️
Seriously? It wasn't even that bad. It's just because he hadn't been there before. Blindside would have been easier but maybe you can't get there that way.

As a new driver, I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks and welcome to our channel!! We are glad you enjoy our trucking videos!!!! Hope they are helping you flatten that initial steep learning curve! Best of luck out there! Let us know how it’s going!
The hell with Blind Siding in!!Blind Side in my book is a last resort.
👍
Not necessarily, he would have probably been better off if he just listened to them and blindsided it. They deal with trucks coming in everyday so they know what they are talking about, the docks looked like they were slanted at a weird angle which is why he struggled so hard because he had to back in at such an awkward and angle with not much room to work with.
Wow the stress comes through the screen. This guy is a true professional
Wow o wow 😮😮 what ever your company is paying you they should give you a raise
😆😆😆👍🤩
Bless you brother for staying in the calm zone - hell of an awkward angle on that whole dock. The best part about those is when you get the paperwork to get the hell out : ) Happy Trails
We should not be taking 53's in there. I would have probably grabbed that phone and thrown it into oncoming traffic. This is stressing me out just watching this. Good job Kevin!
😆😆😆👍
It's not the situation, it's the Freightliner hazards. They do that to you.
@@dchawk81 😁😳😳
They make you go apeshit sitting in line for the Costco guardshack.
Thanks for sharing. It helps to know that I'm not the only one who has to deal with this.
You are so welcome! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!! Definitely one of the reasons we do the channel and keep it real!!!
If that company is going to have 53’ trailers coming in. They should have a little yard truck that can maneuver around better, and have a driver who dose that dock all day every day. My bp went up just watching
I would have done the same thing 😂
No
👍😆😃🤩
Absolutely handled that like a man, good stuff
OMG!!!!!!! What a CLUSTER!!!! Hats off to you, Kevin!!! I wore myself out just watching you!! TOTAL RESPECT!!!
😆😆😆👍
Impressive. Nerves of steel. That is definitely never ever again. Great spotters.
Thanks Jim!!!
This is exactly why I do not run in the northeast, I was stressed for ya ! ☹️
👍😆🤩
You did it so that proves it wasn’t too tight!
😆😆😆
@@TheJoyofTrucking Kevin, you did great, no outbursts and a cool head the entire time (at least while filming). I hated crossing the Delaware river because there are so many places like that. I told my dispatcher be ready for a refusal the next time. But I never really learned how to say No. Stay safe my friend, since I’m now retired I will continue looking up at Crete Trucks for you.
@@Dave-py6rw 🙏😆👍🤩
Your 1 of the best calm truck drivers I’ve ever seen on UA-cam.
😆😆😆👍Thanks!
FAWK THAT! I am glad that yo stuck it out. I would have said...NOPE! Great driving brother!
Thanks! 👍
That company needs a line painted on the ground to assist in backing in, it helps with tight spots having a place to line trailer tires up, and way too many chiefs directing 1 and only 1 should be guiding driver
👍👍👍
I hate how some intersections allow vehicles to park that close to the edge. For this reason. Good job in the turn though. I love watching these tight turn videos. It’s a skill I do great at, but it seems rare because of a lot of new drivers they do not know their truck, clearances, and have no confidence and these are the ones who would have had to do that first turn in my maneuvers haha but you did great. Fun to watch.
I’m all for the more difficult, the more challenging the more I love it haha.
Oh…hello…😆😆😆Was just chatting with you underneath the other video. 😆😆Glad you enjoyed this video too!
15:40 I wanted to back it in for him 😊
Yes please. 😆😆😆
Kevin you did a fun job, we will have to seen you back and you will be a pro at this
😆😆😆
Outstanding, good job sir, I think you're exactly right they need to offload product onto a smaller truck and then bring it in that way. When I finally start driving I'm going to take your advice and put the entire state of New York on my never go to list. Good job guys, awesome video, thank you
👍👍👍
Lol was thinking about applying to Crete but you just made me reconsider.
I drove 359's, 379's, and 389's, still doable.
@ogdriver5334 I know it is doable just a little bit more work😂🤣
Thanks! 😃
But those cascadias get what I call seizures when you back them up lol
@@CHEAP36 😆😆😆
Damn, it's in a neighborhood too😂. Great job Kevin 👍
@@TheJoyofTrucking ahhh that makes better sense why was doing what he was trying to do. I didn’t see the end game 😅😅
Wow! New York City?! Mad respect to you. They say that attitude is everything. Yours is inspiring. Watching YOUR day out on the road made mine seem less stressful. Lol. Keep up the good work. And stay safe. 🙏🏻👊🏻
What happened to the Kenworth?
This is footage from March. KW is fine and still our current truck.
👍👍👍🥰
Its part of life driving truck. Can either deal with it or quit.
👍
YOU DID THAT SHIIIII MAN!!! YOU GO DRIVER!!!
They definitely need to have a smaller truck to deliver to them. You are definitely one great driver. That place should be straight truck delivery only.
👍😃🤩
now thats called shunting well done Kevin and keeping your patience hats off to you 2.👍👍
Thanks! 👍
This is why the TEAMSTERS use pup trailers.
👍😃
Gotta say: Awesome driving! I was nervous just watching this presentation. Nice job!! 🤙
🤗👍😃
This is the kind of driving they don’t teach you in trucking school good job Kevin and if I see that street sweeper again in this video I’m gonna scream 😂.
😆😆😆🤣😂
Went to the same place a few years ago when I was with Crete. 1 time only thank the Lord. Looks like it hasn't changed much. Good job. Did they give you some free bread for your troubles?
😆😆😆Yes!! The bread is in the next video. 😆😆😆
I remember seeing Crete trux at the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio in 1976. God knows where they were taking that beer, but I hope it wasn't NYC! Great job of backing sir!!
This is why I love the freightliner because of the tight spots
There is no better feeling in this world than the feeling of leaving nyc and the areas surrounding after a day like this
Great job!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Did just about as good as anyone else could have done. Gotta love those side skirts. Looks like they were scraping the ground a bit. 😊
They sure were. Both truck and trailer. 🤦♀️
I had a panic attack by the second turn. lol. You did a good job.
Damn, Kev!!! You are the best!!!
😆😆😆😆Thanks!
You are a warrior Kevin.
😆😆😆👍Thanks!
Love your stuff!
Glad to hear it!
Nice Job
Thank you!!!
