Man, I'm so happy I found your channel!! Such great content. I play chugga-chugga stuff in drop A or below, but your playing and tones are so amazing that I listen to the whole video just for the sake of it.
@@FastRedPonyCar Didn't you consider using the XLR out with a XLR to TS jack (or TRS, can't remember which one works the best when going mono XLR to jack) ? Is it because the Quad Cortex only has jack inputs and no XLR inputs ? It is very possible that the Captor X headphones out sounds a a bit different than the normal XLR out, precisely because it is a headphone out :)
@@djabthrash The QC uses combo jacks for the main 2 inputs. I'm just lazy LOL. If there's a difference, it's not enough to make enough difference. I've used both the XLR's and headphone out and never noticed a difference. At gigs, when I used the captor, I'd run XLR out to the house and headphone down to my FRFR. This let me have a separate volume control for my FRFR without messing with the levels going to the house.
I’ve been using a Friedman BE 100 deluxe through a captor x to record with for a few years now and have loved that set up. Just recently got the new red seven amp central evo and man it is a step above the captor x in terms of tone and feel it really brought my recorded tone up a notch. You should definitely give it a try if you’re going direct and recording this way. By the way the mark Vll videos brought me here as the amp is on my radar. Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon. Super happy with the Friedman but wanting the Mesa for the super clean stuff and then the really modern high gain stuff. The Friedman is great for a rock and hard rock amp though.
Yeah Dave’s stuff is practically unbeatable for modded Marshall sounds. I had a Runt 50 for a while and it was great and a killer bargain for the tones. I’ve seen a lot on the red seven but mostly use my ox box if I need to do reactive load and speaker sim, primarily because I can use it live and split my signal so my FRFR signal is coming from the headphone output and PA signal comes from the main outputs. This way I have separate control over my FRFR volume without messing with the signal going to the PA.
Dang, the OX Stop & Box sound really good to my ears. What do you think makes more sense for home tube amp use: Suhr RL + OX Stomp, or pony up for the OX Box?
That's a tough call. With the separate load box and speaker sim devices, you can pick a reactive load that feels and sounds how you like. They're all a bit different. And then just send that to the stomp. The other benefit to this is that you can still use modelers with the ox stomp. The ox box has an internal RCA line in but you have to crack it open (voids warranty) and DIY a RCA to 1/4" female connector, use a step drill bit to open a hole in the chassis to mount the 1/4" jack, etc. On the other hand, the ox box has more reverb, delays and more powerful EQ features than the stomp version and is sort of like a great all in one unit. I like them both equally but it would be cheaper to go stomp and Surh RL and obviously if you have your own effects, the built in stuff with the ox box probably isn't as meaningful. The Ox box effects are still great but just not quite as nice to my ears.
@@FastRedPonyCar Appreciate the response man. How do you like the attenuation on the OX Box? I've heard bad things about using it for bedroom volumes, but I would only use it to knock a few dB off when playing loud through a cab.
I had no idea the Mark VII had a built in Two Notes captor chip. How did their marketing department miss this? Are you able to use the Two Notes software or only the folder access? If you’re into it, would be nice to get your thoughts on clean guitars tones.
No wall of sound support as far as I know. Just drag and drop IR loading. That would be amazing if it had just the whole ass cabM device inside it. Cleans are excellent. I did some clean stuff on my other vid for the amp.

HAHA thanks dude. Yeah this thing can do everything.
This all sounds GREAT. I'm biased but the stuff from 16:20 was particularly awesome.
Your playing makes it sound absolutely fucking epic.
Thanks man!
Captor X! Great tone!
That amp sounds absolutely perfect man. I want one now
Great tones
Love them all! My favorites were the OX Stomp and Leon's IR.
ox stomp sounds good. And it also sounds good with the IRD
That Mark VII is really something ! Those options are endless.
12:33 why using the "phones" out of the Captor X, instead of using the normal output ?
It's the only DI 1/4" output on the unit.
