I moved mine around as soon as I made sure it was working. But I did them ROYW ROYW ROYW ROYW cos I find that easier in low light. I didn't put the back on till after I'd put the knobs back on though.. Wanted to support the board a bit with the amount of pressure the orange ones need.
Behringer probably prepared 10,000 RD-8’s that way round in the first place and had to swap them all to be the other round by hand when Roland trade marked the original colour scheme. No wonder the RD-8 was delayed 😆
You're a just a couple of white knobs short of a not quite TR-808! I also did a tear down video. Mine's focused on quality but video doesn't have TD-8 beats over it, that was a good idea, man. Thumbs up!
I’m really trying to talk myself out of doing this because it looks so tedious...but I don’t think I’m gonna listen to myself lol. Maybe I’ll wait until theirs another mod that I can add that’ll justify opening up the machine or something. Either way really cool you showed this thanks!
well it is not such a pain to do but sure its great that it is possible to do since nothing is glued together alike it is in almost all things today. About the style well I am used to the 808 and eversince I am used to the colour pattern while programming. So to me it became a must do to be able to use this drum machine. ;) Actually it is a very very good remake of the 808 plus a lot of great features.
Cool. However, I would've taken the knobs off first before disassembling it. They look like they were pretty difficult to remove. I'm thinking about opening mine up to tweak the noise generator potentiometer a bit and tighten up the snare a little bit. However, I'm a bit intimidated by the process of removing the knobs. I definitely don't want to break anything while trying to remove them. If they are that difficult to remove, I can only imagine how a pain in the butt they will be to put back on. And when I put them back on, I hope they will stay on firmly and not become too loose and fall off.
@Matthias plays That's wonderful. I did actually take all of the knobs off of mine as I was attempting to disassemble it. However, I decided to listen to it and play around with it one last time before taking the screws out and opening it up just to verify whether I really need to go in there and tamper with the noise generator pot at all. I listened to the snare carefully both accented and unaccented and came to the conclusion the decay length of the snare is fine. It's sounds just right as it is. As a result I put the knobs back on and decided not to open the unit up because making any adjustments to the noise generator pot will most likely have the RD-8 sounding worse as opposed to better for the most part. And yes, some of the knobs were a little stubborn to come off. However, after taking them all off, I had no problems at all putting them back on and they are solid.
Great video Matthias. I can get one locally for $50 but the main audio output and headphone outputs are not working. Do you think a factory reset might help or maybe a quick opening up and replacing them would be needed? Thank you sir.
They had already done the same trick with the model D except that it is a bit more difficult to set it right back: the number of blue/grey and red rocker switches being different...o
Well the knobs are actually also in the orientation so that it fits the look of the original 808. But since there are more potis built on the Behringer RD-8 than originally on the 808 were I had to place two orange once on the left and right outer sides. I hope that clears things up for you ;)
I was annoyed that it showed the original colors on the product picture where I bought it but when I received it, it was reversed. I understand why they reverse it to appease Roland, but I wish the product page where I bought it showed it reversed instead of being misleading
Definitely - actually also on their website they showed it and maybe still show it in the Roland style 👍 - to Bad one has to go thru the risk of loosing the guarantees just for the look beeing 😎
Please if anyone knows the part number or a source for identical white knobs as well as the white trigger buttons, post it here. Drives me nuts that Roland thought they could protect a particular arrangement of the color spectrum as their IP in the form of 'trade dress'. Even more asinine that 'authorities' upheld the claim. "We own these particular electromagnetic frequencies, when arranged in this order!" No you don't. If that made any sense, then why not protect the electromagnetic frequencies which the machine produces in the audible portion of that spectrum themselves and furthermore, why not protect the arrangement of those frequency generators on the front panel? You cannot, because you don't own nature, Roland. I would expect members of a syncretic animist society to respect her, as such.
yep and even the original series never sounds the same either - well but concerning the value for the price one must admit Behringer did a really good job on this drum machine. Enjoy your original 808 and I hope for you it will last for a long time. Mine has died and therefor this RD-8 is the best clone you can get for the low money after all.
Well true when someone doesn`t feel confident enough nor has the ability to do so I recommend to absolutley not doing such a thing. For sure I lost my guarantee and yes the risk breaking the machine is always there. But for me who is used to programm beats over 30 years allready it hasn`t just been a cosmetic moment since this is a permanent state of wrong colour order to me. So either I would have send the machine back to the seller or I need to change the color order. And there comes the magic for me. I was really surprised of how good the RD8 sounds and therefor it is absolutley clear to me to not send it back. So there is only one solution left to make me happy and the RD8 usable was to change the colour order. ;) Nothing to rational to understand here - it is just for me and for those who kinda feel the same. If you are a fan of the 808 you have to check out the RD8.
@@minista just got mine. It is simply superb in every way. The sequencer, the quality of the build and the sound. I won't be taking a screwdriver to mine tho 😂
..yes I did it to mine switched the order.. it definitely sounds better now.. thanks..
😂😂👍
😂😂😂 😎
I just re-painted mine. The sound also improved as a result. I think RD-8 feels happier so it makes nicer sounds.
yea good paint means good sound. That`s cool ;)
Thanks. Didn’t know I had to remove every knob until I watched this.
I want you to do that with the TD-3 but change the black notes back to silver
Thanks for the video! Just switched around my knobs and buttons, does look better!
Great thank you 😉

Does it also bother you that the video is only 8:07 long? 🤪
Nice work doing this, with a good soundtrack too!

olivier missal you are welcome 🤙
Are the white buttons for sale separately?

@@michaelkaiser5825 I ordered them at Behringer. Still waiting for them.
@@GrevDrakehow you did that? Via support emails?

There are some cool mods for the RD-8 out there now, if I open mine up to do this then I’m definitely doing quite a few other mods.
Nailed it
No need to hate, why not mod it if he wants? Thanks for the tear down vid dude
thank you ;)
i would do the same. the new look throws me off.
soooo cool to watch with that rd8-jam playing in the background ..
Thank you very much 😎
seems like a pain I honestly like it the way it came better

well for me all went fine and the buttons still sit strong on their pin after all and untill now never fell off - but sure one never knows

@@kvmoore1 Great to hear and yes I am also very happy with the sound it came but I can understand why sometimes things need to be tweaked :)

DONT GET IT

Yea it seems to be a patent issue that Behringer might be facing since they really do very close copys. But with additional features 🤔
much better

Funny that you made such a big deal about the buttons but, then put the knobs back in a different orientation.
