Looks solid enough to me. I don't own this, but I have a Deepmind 12, going on 3 years that has worked great and I'm very interested in the OB-8 remake when it comes out. I love teardown videos, so thank you for voiding your warranty for all our sakes! I don't think any company is scrutinized for QC as much as Behringer, so they should probably just start releasing their own build quality vids!
Yeah QC used to be pretty rough, but I think it's pretty decent or good now. Had 2 lemons in a row myself but hoping it's just some bad luck. I'd defo be less worried about it failing with these remakes than with actual vintage gear.
@@OttosTheName Yeah if it fails? Have a quick look and if it's not a cheap or obvious fix, just buy another. They are fairly solid but quite a lot of proprietary stuff and surface mount so they are not really that serviceable
I only buy Behringer gear when I can get extended warranty to 5 years now. On a Model D it's like 10 euro's extra. If it's still well under €300 and it lasts me 5 years I'm okay with that. And yes it's hard to service, but the OG models are waaaay more expensive and I can't find anybody in this half of my country that services those either, so servicing the originals is very expensive too. I would prob not get a Deepmind 6 or 12 with keys though if those are also hard to service. I've also been burned by Behringer twice. Repair was quick, no hassle and free though within warranty period...
@@_P_M_ If you buy something Behringer make absolutely sure to get on the terrible 'MusicTribe' website and register it withing 90 days. I don't think they sell parts to the public. I had wobbly knobs on my Poly D and had a devil of a time getting updated replacements from Behringer - Under warranty. Behringer are pretty sketchy when things go wrong. Sometimes fine sometimes very difficult
Hi, I have an rd8 and the kick drum is not working anymore? I was playing it quite loud and the kick and the snare stopped working i upgrade it to 2.0 firmware and the snare came back but is not as loud as it use to but the kick doesn't work anymore i tried the individual outs and all the other ways but no sound from the kick any tips? would be much appreciated
Hey mate, try the MIDI in and see if you get anything that way. If you do maybe it's the control surfaces (fixable) if you still don't? Take a quick look inside it to see if you can see any obvious bad solder joints or failed components, if not, not practical to fix, just buy another one and keep your faulty one for spares. There's not a huge amount you can do to fix one of these!
Nice video. A few days a go, I was wondering if there is a way to tune the toms of the RD-8 and RD-9 to a lower key, but I didn't see anything that makes it possible. I guess it can only be done with firmware.
Hey I'm having a few issues with my RD-8. Had it for 18 months now and when I connect it to my DAW (FL Studio) it initially works fine. After a while the low end seems to go and the bass drum in particular becomes distorted. The issue happens intermittently and seems to occur when the RD-8 is being triggered by the DAW through MIDI out. Any ideas what the problem could be? Is this fixable?
Are you on the latest firmware for your RD-8? Have you run your RD-8 standalone for long enough to be sure it only happens under MIDI control? I know that's really tricky with intermittent problems!
@@hydorah yes definitely on the latest firmware update. Have done a couple of factory resets too and that hasn’t helped to resolve the issue. It seems to work fine on internal and USB settings but when I trigger it via the DAW that’s when the sounds become distorted. If I switch to internal clock or USB the problem doesn’t go away. Turning it off can help but not always
@@liamconner82 Are you under warranty? Maybe scream into the abyss and try Behringer? It sounds like a weird bug. I never used mine driven by MIDI in fact I don't use it all anymore. Might come in handy one day and isn't worth anything so I keep it :-)
i really love my rd8 but the main output is already failing and a loose connection is causing giant volume.drops untill i move the the cable around to "fix it" thanks for the vid. was gonna open it up soon and try to diagnose.
That sucks! Mine looks OK but it had a hand print on one of the boards, so iffy things can happen in their factory! It's easy to get inside though so I'm sure you can blob a bit of solder on that jack connection and you should be all set
Yeah it definitely has some weird idiosyncrasies with choosing song and pattern that you have to defeat to get at the 808 experience. I remember finding that annoying! I still have mine. What else bugged you?
Now I know exactly what I'll have to do to get the Red/Orange/Yellow/White the right way round!
Hats off to Vincent Van Gogh for taking time out of his eternal rest to give us this teardown video. Nah, but fr thanks for the vid.
Glad it still works after the teardown. Thanks for doing it.
Me too! And you're welcome!
very nice tear down - keep on going
Thank you for doing this, showing us how it looks inside. I just got mine :) One again thank you for putting the effort, 12:38 haha
You're welcome! And yeah the relief when you find it still works!

Interesting that they apparently went out of their way to keep it so large. And you, sir, are a warranty-period teardown *hero* ! 🙏👍

Is there a metal plate /weight in the bottom panel or is this all really 3Kg in total?
u switched the dataknob with the attack knob
Wow! Your powers of observation are amazing!
Very useful vid. Now I know what to expect if my RD8 goes wrong👍
Cool:-) Looks like it should last a good while!
does someone have HQ pictures of the brain section available? I wanna know if the base design is as well a copy of MI modules or not.
