I like the lists suggestions because mental clutter adds up too.
I listed my UFOs. Now I have a calendar I follow. the first two weeks of the month I choose something from the list to work on one project at a time (enough time to finish up some of them and choose another) then from the 15 - 18, I work on money makers (ordered memory bears etc) and things I can sell on a friends market table. Then I take 9 days and chose 9 projects that I can easily swap out at the machine and do a different project each day, this gives me a bit of progress on them but also keeps me engaged with them enough that I don't forget where I was at in the patterns. The last days of the month I safe for quilting so I can quilt a large project or two smaller ones each month. The binding of them usually starts off my "one project at a time" start of the next month. Sounds complicated but has worked great for me ever since I started this system and I'm really getting through my list that started with 30 some whips and even let me start some new ones in between.
Sounds like a great way to keep projects fresh! I am a "one project at a time" person and get bored working on the larger projects. I might give your process a try and/or modify as needed to meet my needs. Thanks for sharing!
What a great system!! I’m gonna borrow it!
I think that’s a fantastic idea👏👏👏
Yep I think I should put that idea into use as well! Thank You for sharing❤️😀
That’s awesome!! I needs or organize my calendar like that too work for me. Been planning
This is a great idea! I get stalled on some projects because I don't have enough time to devote to it but your method would help that problem!
I’m going to like these helpful get it done tips videos. Sometimes you just need a helpful friend to suggest some things to help you get organized because you over look things that you haven’t noticed before or that aren’t working. Who doesn’t want a more efficient sewing space. Thank you
I’m visualizing a LARGER sewing room! But truthfully this video is a huge help!
Your sewing room is soooo gorgeous 😍😍😍😍 I can feel the inspiration flowing out of it ❤
My sewing space is my dining room table. Since the first of the year when I’m done sewing for the day I return any tools, rulers, iron, pressing/cutting mat etc. to their homes even if I will be using them again the next day. It’s so nice to start the day off with a clean space. In the past I have let the clutter build up and I vow not to get back to my old ways. This is much more inviting!
Every time I clear off my flat surface's things seem to make their way back on to them. ugh! so frustrating. It is a great idea to be able to walk in your space to get that item you might need. Sitting down long amounts of time isn't good for the heart! Get those steps in Quilters!! 😊
im moving my sewing space. i am taking over a room in my downstairs. Currently my space is a 8 x 14 little tiny room, and i am moving to a 16x18 room. i can't wait. i have been making lists, figuring out what i need to organize each item, so this video came at the perfect time. I can't wait to get it all done so i can start sewing with my Strawberry Lemonade that just came in the mail! thanks for all you do!!!
These are great - easy actionable steps. It’s the kind of list that would be handy to mindfully review a few times each year - especially steps 1-3. Thank you!
I loke thenmake a list of wips. This will be helpful. Also cleaning flat spaces if incredibly helpful...if ill jist do it😊
Thank you for all your inspiration for organizing and sewing tips! I also think a larger sewing room would help. But, knowing me that would create more space for clutter. Lol! Nothing in my house is organized :( I am going to clear one area a day. Thank you, this is going to get me motivated.
Great video. I had a head start on this because I have your awesome quilting life planner. I bought it last year and it is a great tool. Then I saw that Martingale was having a going out of business sale which shocked me so I took advantage of that and bought four more copies. So I have it for a total of 5 years. It has become my new best friend. My nightstand was always getting cluttered so finally got it cleared off and put book on it in a basket now there’s no room for clutter and my favorite books are close and I no longer spend time looking for my quilting life journal/planner/best friend.
How did you know I was freshening things up?? Thank you for the video!!❤
Thank you for the list. Happily 3 of them are already done. The next biggie is to put away all the card making supplies from the church card ministry work, then I can start those WIP borders!
HI Sherri! Oh I wish I had a full ROOM for sewing and quilting. I have one third of a room (our family room/home office) in the back corner which measures approximately 75 square feet. Yes the sewing desk is a clutter magnet on one corner but most of the time it's holding quilt patterns, fabric, pattern books (including one of yours), etc. Looking forward to more suggestions! Many Thanks! ~~ Lynne
Taking a before picture is an excellent idea! I already implement the other ideas, but I feel for me this can serve 2 purposes: seeing the space a little differently and being able to better identify problem areas, and something to look at when I'm finished and see my progress.
Great tips. Going to got run thru this list again as I just finished organizing in January and I must be ready to sew for the new year.
I am doing my workshop and just finished organizing all my rulers and sorting scissors I had some that were my Grandmothers she was a seamstress . I am now doing my shelves I have one wall floor to ceiling 2 feet deep and a lot gets lost in the back so about a week ahead of me of sorting then on to my unfinished projects. Loved your video I need all the help I can get.
I pick up and clear everything as soon as I finish sewing. I sew in a space in my living room ,so I don’t leave things out. I’m used to it now.
I am making a list of UFOs. While cleaning up my sewing room this weekend I thought knew what I had as ufos, well in the basket with the one I knew about was all the blocks for a quilt top I forgot I was making. I also am making a list of quilts that I want to make, quilts that I already have bought the fabric for. I am going to work on cleaning my flat surfaces. Thanks for the recommendations.
I have three quilt tops to be machine quilted and that’s on my domestic machine. I tend to do mostly ruler work, so the first is 80% done. This is my golden rule never to go pass three, because I know it can get out of hand ( which is my least favourite quilt making to do ). This is my focus getting them done. Thanks for your tips, my space is fairly small so I can’t function if things are scatter. Sherri, I’m stocked by hearing just how many rulers you have. Again thanks. 👍❤️😊
Excellent tips. I need more of these!
Thank you Sherri. This is very helpful. Great ideas.
Good tips, thanks Sherrie
Thanks, Sherri. I’ve been working on my sewing room and going to add a couple of these that I hadn’t thought of doing.
These are good ideas to begin with. Thank you, Sherri.
Thank you 😊
Love these videos! Thank you! That’s my motto this year “do more in 2024.” With your organization tips it will help me get there 🤗😊
Super ideas. Off to get started!😊
Thank you. I really like number 3. I need to do this to clear my mind off that clutter.

Made a List. Questions ⁉️ Sherri where did You get the Wood Book Stand?
For Listener Episode: I'm Currently participating in MODA BH5 - I'm using "Sunwashed" and "Peachy Keen" but I'm finding it Very Difficult Planning my Blocks So Far. Would it Be Better instead of trying to use everything - to use maybe 10 prints? 1 dark and 1 light of each Blue, Coral and Yellow in the Bunch. "Peachy Keen" has no Yellow,
I downloaded your planner page, but what is the month column for?
money always helps to make your wishes come true
My cutting table falls victim to clutter..
I think if I had a sewing space as big as hers I would be organized.
I have found a larger space does not help.
Could we have an honest look at your scraps?
Thanks Sherri, these are timely tips. I am at this moment decluttering and reorganising my sewing room cupboards. I got one tip half right. Last year I did make a list of the sewing I would like to do....then I promptly lost the list!!! Need to put my ideas in a list, in a book, and keep it in my sewing draw. Who know the old list may turn up while i'm sorting and shifting haha.
