Great review and summary. Owned my GR Yaris for 3 years now. Also owned a Morizo Corolla but sold it and kept the Yaris (Yaris is lighter by 180kgs and you could feel that weight). Absolutely love it. Boggles the mind how competent it is even against much more expensive and exotic machinery, especially when the roads deteriorate and the splitters and bits fall off the competing cars, trying to keep up. The car is built tough too. Really solid structure and you can feel that in the corners. Sure it ain't perfect for all the reasons you mentioned (particularly the seat height, which I fixed by importing a seat from Japan made for the GRMN Yaris) but it's all part of the charm. aside from, say, a Porsche GT car, I can't say there's another car I'd want to swap for it.
@@darrenprior6339 Definitely mate, it’s like a petrolhead secret that you only get if you’ve driven one or own one. When I bought mine a rich local man with a vast car collection bought one too and returned to the dealership to show them footage of him pushing a GT3 in wet conditions. I love how it punches well above its weight and just wins you over with its honest awesome ability.
@@GRfourfun It has transformed the drivability of the car. Just a massive ordeal to get it into Aus and pay for the privilege, but once you've forgotten the sting of the cost, it's worth it.
G’day mate I’m the kid that approached you in loch when you were attaching the GoPro to the Alfa Romeo, not going to lie I wasn’t expecting this good of a video for a small creature but bloody hell I’ve been looking for a Channel like this with amazing video style amazing videography, this is the best car review channel I’ve ever seen. I’m going to get my mates to subscribe to give you a few more subscribers and I hope you succeed with this, Good luck mate. Cars 🤘
Hey mate! Thanks very much for the kind words - it means a lot 👍 The GoPro is a decent little thing, but we do use a couple of different cameras for the videos. And thanks very much for subscribing and suggesting the channel to your mates - it helps a lot. Alfa video should go live at the end of next week... I hope you enjoy it. Cheers, James.
So true about the obnoxious steering wheels on sports cars these days. I love our GRC. Great review! Love your highlights of the nuances in how it's different than other driving experiences.
Firstly I have to say what an awesome job you did with your review of this great little car. Your approach and execution were excellent , along with your knowledge of the car ( which is rare in most cases on UA-cam ), and your calmness and enjoyment really were evident and appreciated. Best of luck , I hope your channel explodes with subs and views, it will be well deserved. Oh , and you have 1 new subscriber 👍.
I have a GRC circuit. I just came back from a 9k km road trip (of which 6k was on proper mountain roads-:) I agree with you 100% when in 30/70 it is super playful on gravel/dirt & hook up amazingly well on pavement (almost to much!!!) The ultimate B road car👍 After owning a handful of fast cars I would pick the GRC out of the bunch - ADL👍
Oh man, really great video, it's nice! For your next videos, it could be possible to fix a camera on the pedalbox to film your footwork and to include these shots in full screen in the edit like the other angles please? :D
I've always wanted one, but last year, I had the privilege of driving one on a track in Japan on RE71's and it was so good around the track. I'm so mad that we don't get these in the States. I want it so bad, and while the GR Corolla is cool, it doesn't come close to being as cool and capable as the GR Yaris imo
There's plenty of aftermarket bits available now in the UK to enhance the areas of concern. Seat height, SWM Motorsport do a kit to lower both, 30mm or so, makes a real difference and I'm 6ft. A nice Alcantara steering wheel upgrade, various spring kits to lower it also upto 35mm, Wheel spacers and bodykits to make it look more aggressive and give it a better stance. Power upgrades if you wish but hey !! I'm happy with 260bhp. All in all it's a fab little car which oozes character and a head turning presence on the Rd, a truly great little car that I'm proud to own 😊
The seat is not too high and there is plenty of adjustment for people 6" or slightly over. The real weak point is the brakes: they are capable but wooden and lack initial bite.
@@user-xu5vl5th9n totally agree. I’m 6ft and I have no issue with the seat height (or indeed does Tommi Makinen who specified much of the interior including the seats). I think much of this myth comes from motor journalists who thought the GRY was just another hot hatch when it was first launched and had zero appreciation of its rally DNA.
Very good video , I have owned my GR Yaris from new since January 2021 and done just over 30,000ks and I just love it and mine is only the low spec model, your video got me hyped and I don't even need to be lol

You selling the Morizo speaks volumes about the GRY. Had mine 2 years and I can’t see me selling it, ever.
@@GRfourfun Ditto mate. Toyota got this one right. If you know, you know right?

Great video! A homologation special is something quite rare indeed - thanks for helping us to appreciate and celebrate this one 🙏

Actual rally cars are actually road legal u know.... Even the GR Yaris Rally1 or the Rally2 version

Make sure a 360 donut is never done on camera. Immediately results in the loss of 10% of the cars in the first years.

I think it already has plenty of power and while it does look better lowered and widened its just tinkering. I would like a rally 2 rear wing though.
For $50K one can buy a lot more car! Cadillac CTS-V
I wish we had Cadillacs in Australia! The CTS-V looks bloody awesome.
@@stevegunderson2392 In a straight line it would destroy the GR. On a winding road or when it began to rain the GR Yaris would just go away from it.
