A Service of Thanksgiving for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh - BBC - 29th March 2022

- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- From Westminster Abbey, Huw Edwards presents live coverage of the service of thanksgiving in memory of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the longest serving royal consort in history, who died last April at the age of 99.
Featuring readings and music close to the duke’s heart, the service commemorates the life and legacy of HM The Queen’s remarkable consort. Members of the royal family and members of the duke’s family will attend, as well as representatives from the many organisations the duke supported who were unable to attend the funeral, which was scaled down due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Prince Philip supported an exceptional number of causes during his lifetime, becoming patron of many hundreds of charities and organisations championing conservation, sport, industry and education. In 1956 he founded the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme to encourage the development of young people, which has since expanded to 144 nations and been completed by millions of young people around the world.
In the build-up to the service, Huw Edwards talks to those attending about the remarkable legacy the duke leaves behind.
Hey! It would be greatly appreciated if you could buy me a coffee in lieu of all the videos I have uploaded. Everything here is free, worldwide. It really helps, Thank You.

And she is dead
Watching from the USA. Such a lovely tribute to the life and service of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. May he rest in peace. God Save the Queen.
The coverage by the BBC was very respectful. And what a stellar turnout from the other Royal houses too. It's such a shame that this wonderful service has been overshadowed in the press by stories honing in on Prince Andrew and Prince Harry.
Yes: lets forget that the Prince fucked around and so did his to sons.....
Re the other royal houses, he's a cousin to most of them and in fact has a more royal lineage than the Queen.
I was very glad to be able to see this beautiful service for Prince Philip this morning.
I'm with you there.
Lovely Service for a Lovely man.
Lovely service honoring HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. It was so good to see the Queen and the rest of the family. God save the Queen!
The Queen looked very well. She remains quite mentally acute.
The Dean's address was superb. Couldn't be bettered as a tribute to a unique man. RIP, The Prince Philip.
The Queen's great grandchildren behaved splendidly!
They have excellent loving parents, that is why.
No media organization can do this with such grace and dignity as the BBC!
They have had 100 years experience, that is why
Seeing Princess Beatrice fighting tears and being overwhelmed with emotion @1:03:28 really pulled on the heart strings. The Duke of Edinburgh had a profound, prolonged effect on so many people. Those who knew him personally and those who only knew him briefly had their lives forever changed by his character and knowledge.
As a total 'aside', anything to do with Remembrance, Royalty or Her Majesty's Armed Forces, Huw Edwards is absolutely pure CLASS. I think of the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance from the Albert Hall. Exemplary, year after year, he presents with professionalism and British pride. Thank you, Huw ❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank🌻You So Much

Doyin speaks very well, and I like the fact that she wore Edinburgh Green!
Thank you for this broadcast outside of Uk
This was wonderful to watch. Thank you
When all else is gone, faith preserves and comforts. It does not take away the pain of loss, but instead lessens it.
Actually no. It doesn't. It deludes. It makes you stupid. And it never, ever fails to disappoint.
Her Majesty is one of the greatest monarchs in the history of the British Court. I feel very fortunate to have lived during and witnessed her reign. She stands today as a towering figure above the evil attacking democracy in Europe. God Save the Queen.
Elegant and informative presentation. Thank you.
Thank you - deeply moving
Thank you for an excellent Memorial Service. Huw Edwards the perfect presenter. Beautiful hymns and singing.
Prince Edward for me has had the best transformation. He started off as a spoilt brat who thought he was a great TV producer, but he mellowed and became more humble after the married in 1999. Sophie certainly changed him for the better. People who work for them say they are the best family of the royals to work for. Kind, welcoming and very little ego. What a transformation.
marvelous film, best so far, thank you
Thank you very much BBC Studios for sharing this beautiful service with us. We thank God for a life well lived by the Duke of Edinburgh, our beloved Prince Phillip. He will be greatly missed. We will always remember him. May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory. God Save the Queen and Bless us all.
I’m glad everyone is using my line because I called him our beloved Prince Philip first
It was so BEAUTIFUL what a strong lady the QUEEN is I loved the QUEEN had ANDREW WITH her he was more or less her carer in LOCKDOWN 🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏💐💐💐❤❤❤
So honored to witness this solemn remembrance service.
God save our gracious Queen
His handsome went all the way to the bone, lovely man. From America
Indeed. Pity those genes haven't been passed on.
Never seen her Look as Sad or as Unhappy. My heart breaks for our Dear Queen
I love the way Huw Edwards refers to the elephant in the room as "that legal case in America"
No smoke without fire, just saying
Oh this was adorable and cute at 41:52 - when Peter Phillips children suddenly saw themselves on the TV monitors in the Abbey, their reactions was so cute.
Simple, but solemn service. Great hymns and music. May his soul Rest In Peace.
Seeing the Duke, giving Interviews, makes me nearly cry....he was always there in my Life, watching from the age of 10, Trooping onecst a year...and than always reading about him and his remarks, which I thought, were funny.....I miss him...just being there and looking grimm or funny or whatever...not in light years could imagine what our Queen is going through....but she always was strong , will be strong untill her last Breath..God bless our noble Queen
Blessed with common sense( though not so common in his case) Dear Lord-may we all be so blessed.
For me, his legacy is his loyality.
So nice to finally see prince philips family. In death they were united.
May Prince Philip continue to rest in peace.
Thank you for posting this. I liked watching this again. Please don't take it down
Prayers to you your majesty....it's been so difficult for you the past few years and you don't deserve it. Prayers ma'am for peace and serenity
I met the duke am from Kenya and am proud
The music is so good
Oh dear Philip and Elizabeth. Rest in Gods love💞🙏🇿🇲 till we meet again.
5:30 fun fact: Duchess Kate is a Gold awardee too and thus was invited to award ceremony usually hosted by the late duke himself or other royal family member.
it is unknown if she met the duke in person back then, but still funny to see royals again some decades later because you are to become part of the family.
Praise God our glory and Joy.
In HIS Presence there is fullness of Joy,
and pleasure for evermore.Amen.
Stay Blessed UK.
God save the King.
I will sadly yet happily enjoy this last decade or more with my queen.Life will never be the same when she goes home. She all i have known my entire life
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that worketh in us.Eph.3:20. Amen. Stay Blessed UK.
God save the King.
Rest in peace Prince Philip.
Gone but not forgotten.
Stay Blessed Royals.
God save the King.
Judging by the Viscount Severn's reaction here from 49:38 it looks like this was his first time in Westminster Abbey, as he is looking around at the beautiful Quire area of the abbey. He turns to his big sister who speaks to him, probably asking him what he thinks of it, and it looks like he is impressed.
The Duchess of Cornwall looked lovely in green.
The green is the heraldic colour of Edinburgh. That is the reason that so many of the women were in green rather than black.
It is written! I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philipians 4:13.
Thanks be to God.
God Bless UK.
1:07:32 Princess Charlotte when she spots herself on the screen haha
Fergies girls chose 2 classy gentlemen.Very happy about that

Look at 51:12 and I love seeing the royal kids enjoying (or maybe not) seeing themselves on the TV screens.
" REMEMBERING - AN IMAGE OF STEADFAST , JUSTICE , FAITHFULNESS , AND LOVE ."

The children of the Earl and Countess of Wessex are also the Queen's grandkids and they are still so forgotten.
十分隆重的Thanksgiving。
I respectfully suggest you read your history, to appreciate why, and how things were done in that time.
Thank you🙏
The 29th of March 2022, what a lovely Thanksgiving and Memorial Service for a unique husband and Consort, his RH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh ✨🌹♥️.
Well done video to honour a wonderful extraordinary and very honourable man.
Thank You LORD for supplying all our needs according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus Philip. 4:19. Amen.
God save the King.
I know so little about him but it seems he was a rather active, intriguing person.
Geoffrey griffith in philadelphia usa a nice service for a gentleman i saw the queen elizabeth and prince philip in barbados in 1955 when i was a school boy they was visiting our country they were very pleasant their son prince charles was born in 1948 the same year as myself my country of barbados was ruled by england which was and is still good to barbados may god be still be with him rest in peace amen
God save the Queen and her Royal family iove from Tracey Gates from Wales UK 🐎🐴🕊💻💻🙏🙏🌍🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴😇🇪🇺
Looking very nice..
The reverence that come with christianity is breath taking
Prince Philip. A Life well-lived. 💙 Roya Nikkah makes a mistake @54:32 confusing Prince Philip with Prince William, who is thankfully is still alive and well and hopefully will be for many more decades to come.
The problem with Westminster Abbey is that the main congregation cannot see what goes on behind the Rood screen, in the Quire with the altar.
Well it is a place which is a 1,000 years old, and I sincerely doubt they will ever remove it. The Quire section goes back to the ancient Roman Catholic tradition, where their so called sacrafice of the "Mass" was celebrated only in the presence of the clergy and choristers, with lay people left outside the Quire and to "listen" to the "Mass" being celebrated. This is the reason why when Christopher Wren was planning to build St Paul's Cathedral, his intention was always to have the congregation get the best view they could. And it sort of worked there.
, this is not quite the right take on the reason for the screen.
The building is called Westminster Abbey, because it was founded as the church for a monastery. It was the monks' church., not a place of public worship, except by agreement with the Abbot. The eastern end was reserved for the monks, as distinct from the clergy. The nave (western end) was given over for the use of the general populace. The mass could also be celebrated the oter side of the screen, as it still is at some services, to this day. .

1:00:41 Arrival of Her Majesty The Queen
Amen.
Six months later, Queen Elizabeth II would pass away peacefully.
Nothing against Huw Edwards, not his fault that the BBC coverage of this wonderful event was abysmal. I like Huw , but where was the commentary explaining who was there ? The majority of European royalty came and went without a word on who they were. Shame on you BBC.
He went through who was there from Philip’s family.
If you studied royalty you'd know.
It's a shame they didn't have Eternal Father strong to save (The Royal Navy Hymn).
Princess Beatrice 😢
Thanks be to God Almighty:

Queen looks not very great I feel sorry for her. Amazing life.
She did have Covid, which did cause her to have "cold like symptoms", but remember, when you reach the age of nearly 96 years old come April 21st 2022, having even a cold could be life threatening.
Respect!
Probably because of the way I was raised, but the Royal Family, British Culture and the Protestant Church is the epitome of class.
Epitome of racism, colonising ,taxpayers money and not least scandal driven, moto do no explain. Moto just go away, Thank god members dying out
@@juanitamayers8889 colonizing was an evolutionary process. Those countries couldn’t function on their own and barely can today.
@@juanitamayers8889 Hope you live in one of the third world countries cause you probably wouldn’t want you to benefit from the more advanced culture of white majority cultures….

Why did Huw Edwards keep looking to his right as if distracted ? It was so obvious that I thought it was quite rude and unusual for such a normally brilliant commentator . Or is it just me ?
His floor manager is behind the camera, they were having technical problems in their outside studio at Westminster Abbey. Problems that no one knew by watching, but there were a lot of equipment failures that morning.
Prince Harry very much resembles his dear grandfather, Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
The Church
the time your royal highness arrives 1:00:55
Do you mean her majesty the queen? Royal highness is how you address her children, grandchildren and her late husband
Светлая пам'ять принцу Пилипа .
Prince Harry should have been there
The only thing that has ruined this is seeing that andrew there
Why shouldn't he go to a memorial service for his father? I dislike him, having met him a few times. However, he has only been found guilty in the court of public opinion. And public opinion is generally worthless. Look at what happened when the public were given the chance to name a serious polar ship. Boatie McBoatface. And these people have a vote. No wonder the country is a mess.
@@michaelmontagu3979 look at what he is then you will understand why
Why couldn't they wait until his actual anniversary?
i would guess scheduling issues , this did involve alot of very busy/important people. also perhaps they wish to do something more private on the day with just family.

Easter = they could not hold a memorial service during Passiontide, as his anniversary of April 9th 2022 landed during what is known as Passiontide, the two weeks leading up to Easter.
Look at Mia Tindall at 42:00 trying to hide her face from the camera shot. Cute.
