Rí Rá comes from "Rí Rá agus Ruaile Buaile", a phrase translating roughly as divilment, good fun or any sociable activity that improves with fine food, a nice pint of Guinness or dram of Uisce Beatha (whiskey).
Irish person here and The MacMaster is spot on. It does mean, chaos, bedlam mayhem, good fun etc. Rí rá agus ruaille buaille basically translates as fun and madness. @Jill I hope you didnt come across the one without the fada (RIRA) because you would be looking at the name of a particular dissident group here in Ireland.
Gotta agree. 3 years ago when i was last there it was much cheaper. Breakfast was around about $7, same for a burger, fries n a drink. It cost 20 quid to fill a mustang up. Now its no longer a cheap option for a holiday.
Manhattan and Vegas is not the real America. I agree I'd love to see him hit the road and try some family restaurants out in the country towns. My bill is rarely over $10 at most diners and local restaurants
As an American that has also lived in Britain (Leeds and Belfast) I've never, ever had fish n chips in the states that even compares to British fish n chips. It just way better in the UK, and also you can choose your fish (which is unheard of in the US) AND they have those delicious curry fries. Why a British person doesn't come here and open a chip shop with AUTHENTIC food is completely beyond me.
@MacMaster please do a show dedicated to curry chips!!!!! Today was the king's coronation? Well, I say we need to coronate curry fries as the greatest UK invention since the longitude. They are (sadly) missing in America, and that needs to change! And also chip shop scallop potatoes, with lots of vinegar.😏
It is expensive that, when you think the exchange rate was great years ago, as high as 2 dollars to the pound, and then it was solid 1.60 to the pound for year's, so with the exchange rate and prices being hiked, it is really too expensive now
I have really enjoyed your videos from Vegas and i think your right them prices do seem expensive but is that not normal for tourist places i would still love to go to New York and Vegas etc to see them. Thanks again to you and Martin for the great laughs.
I have loved watching you and Martin on this journey! I am making my first trip out to America soon to see my girlfriend whom I have been seperated from due to the pandemic and it will be my first time out there. This series has been educational as well as entertaining! Thank you Mac Master!
So for one person Fish + Chips + Mushy Peas + Soft Drink = $30.50 which is £22.86 ? Just checking on my local Fish and Chip shop and Meal for 3 , which is 3 times all those items is £22.75, crazy prices over there. Loved the videos from Vegas, looking forward to more NY ones.
Getting fish and chips anywhere in the USA for less than 13.95+tax+tip (bringing the total to about $18) is unusual. The norm total is about 22.50 which would be expensive in Britain so, yes, Vegas is expensive, but America is, in general, compared to the UK.
Looks like a nice restaurant in spite of the frozen fish (but that's to be expected in Vegas). You're right about how expensive Vegas is. Twenty years ago or so, we used to fly down for a long weekend (from Vancouver) and it was cheap. Those prices you've shown us are nuts. Same as Hawaii -- used to be cheap, now super expensive. Another reason for you to visit Canada -- not only cheaper, but cleaner, safer, nicer scenery, smarter people, better food, and a lot more fun! THANKS for the video!
@@GGK1986 I was only being facetious. Some of the nicest people I've ever met are Americans. On the other hand, I was in San Diego once and someone asked me, "where's Canada -- isn't that up near Seattle?" LOL
It's not surprising. It's the same with any food all over the world. Even in Britain you can't get a good level of quality anymore. Whitby being a example of that.
Very interesting to have seen your blogs on my two favourite places in America. Love NYC and Vegas but great to have seen your experiences. Definitely more expensive since I last went in 2016 and it's not just the exchange rate. Have a safe trip back. 🇬🇧
Thanks lol - not sure if that’s a good or bad thing !! No channel for me - I see how hard Lee works and looking at some of the idiots posting on here I wouldn’t be as polite as he is 😃! Thanks for supporting him and the kind comment much appreciated👍🏻
Hallelujah Lee!... Finally acknowledgment of what i stated in a previous U.S. video of yours... An average family of four staying for two weeks in the States... Will need to remortgage their house, simply for them to eat three square meals a day... The prices are crippling for these families holidaying in America... But my score on this particular Fish & Chips meal would be an average score of 5/10... The reason being those Chips actually looked hollow through overcooking... The Mushy Peas looked awful... I did hear Lee mention that the Peas were Batchelors... Now i do know that there are two separate companies called Batchelors, selling Mushy Peas... The one we all know and love here on the U.K. mainland... And another Batchelors company over in Ireland... So i suspect as it's an Irish themed pub... they're using the Irish version here... But they looked very watery to me... The Fish actually looked half decent... The other items you tried like the Scotch Egg... and the Sausage Rolls looked average at best... And the bill once again was absolutely eye watering... Thanks for the review Martin & Lee... Cheers guys. 🍺🍺
I’ve just got to say I am absolutely thoroughly enjoying you and Martin in New York and in Las Vegas, , i’ve been to New York and Vegas three times firstly in 1987 last time 2014, we are booked to go to New York and Vegas in May again next year hopefully, we are definitely going to go to some of the restaurants you and Martin have recommended absolutely brilliant lads, , very well made videos just just great you have definitely got a an A number one fan here well done Lee fantastic 👍👍
I nearly fell off my couch at the bill - dearie me that WAS expensive! And that was NO Scotch egg. Scotch egg is a whole egg, wrapped in sausage, breadcrumbs and deep fried. That looked like it had been devilled. The chips didn't look too healthy. I like the odd crunchy bit - that was a plate of crunchy bits - I think you were had with this meal 😐😂 Thanks for the review 👍
Really loved your videos in USA ,great combo lee and martin. you can't go to an Irish bar and not have a Guinness thou...re your dislike for fish n chips in Ireland..next time your in Dublin visit Howth, freshest most beautiful fish
I don't think Vegas is expensive. The strip is another matter unless you go for fast food. It is two years since we did a two week West Coast road trip. We stayed 5 nights at the Edgewater Casino on Boulder Hwy whos rooms are every bit as lavish as the one in New York New York. It was $49 per night and we didn't pay a resort fee once we signed up for the players card. America is still cheap for motels and car rental especially in Florida. Our 2 week trip cost us £950 each that inc flights, SUV rental, hotels/motels, top up insurance, annual trip insurance, SEMA Car Show passes, Florida Georgis Line concet tickets at Planet Hollywood, tickets to Palm Springs aerial tramway and bus tickets to Dublin Airport. It depends on the amount of time you spend on planning. We dined at the Golden Corral, Ponderosa, Palace Station, Red Rock Casino, Texas Station, buffets and they were extremely cheap in Vegas. I don't like complaining about all the stupid prices Lee but these vlogs may put people off from travelling to Vegas which is my favourite US city. I use it as a base to visit Grand Canyon, Zion Bryce Canyon, Death Valley, Route 66, Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and Mount Charlston. I can send you one of our trip reports. It may give you some ideas for future trips. I do really enjoy your vlogs. Keep up all the hard work.
I have stayed in the Mandalay Bay a few times. Of all the places in USA, you had to pick one of the worst places - Vegas - of all the foods to eat in USA, you had to pick the worst of F&C. Check out further north like Montana or Wyoming. In USA I'd always recommend ribs, steak, burritos. Right, best F&C in the world in Yorkshire, a belly full for £4 is common. Did you see the two best parts of Vegas? The road in and the road out. From the west it is sublime coming through blue mountains from Death Valley, to the east is Hoover Dam and to Grand Canyon.
Lee I have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far with all the new content from the states. Have to say I’m glad you mentioned the rise of prices etc… been a few years since I have been over myself However it appears that is has got very expensive. The £ to $ exchange rate doesn’t do us Brits any favours either. A lot of the meals are at least 3 x the price you would pay back in the UK.
Just did the currency conversion...£91!!!!! 😮😮 looks like a remortgage would be needed for a trip to Vegas. Im suprised to see it so busy over there. How do people afford it??
Yes I’ve been absolutely gobsmacked seeing those prices and I’ve been to both NYC and Vegas a few times. Having said that, you asked for comments from English viewers,,,, I live in Cardiff. Does it make a difference then?
Never used that restaurant when I stayed in Mandalay Bay in 2016, fish looked great well presented going to give it a 8/10 prices have went crazy it was expensive in 2016 but nothing like now!
The batter on the fish looked good but the cross-section revealed that the fillet had been cut very thinly. The chips did look like the scraps that you find at bottom of the bag from the chippy. If those were batchelor's peas they have added water to make them go further. I could only give that 6/10 at best.
$16.50 for 2pts of Magners, $47 for fish&very poor looking chips wwwwhat, jeez that place is a rip off, & I'm Irish, at least things aren't that expensive over at least not yet, 4/10 for me
Used to be good value for Brits going to the states, but now with the exchange rate its so expensive i think compared to a few years ago, Florida/Disney the same now.
‘Scrag Ends’ was just what I was thinking looking at those chips, must be the Midlands in us. Fish looked ok though, not bad so far from home. I stayed in the Luxor where you did the sum up with mates on a road trip yrs ago. We were there at end of June and it was melting hot, I just remember the Casino’s competing with each other with the most insane buffet restaurants with a myriad of choice.
Vegas is undoubtedly expensive on the Strip. Fish and chips in America is generally very poor, with pieces of fish only slightly larger than fish fingers (or sticks as they say here) served with McDonald’s type fries (ie not British style). There are a few places in Vegas off the Strip which are better and cheaper. In Reno we have a branch of the Long John Silver’s chain which is where we go if we need a fish and chips fix (most LJS branches are shared with KFC and they are not very good). The fish is pollock, the chips are cooked British style and it is under $7. At least you know what you’re getting. Thanks for showing people the truth of America - it has become more expensive and an exchange rate of about 1.30 to the pound makes it even more so. 👍🏻
I agree about the pricing. I do enjoy reading the menus when you show them, but even with the exchange rate conversion (I automatically think $=£'s 1-1) I have even baulked at the prices of the restaurants, bars and diners you have visited. In other news, those peas needed a slotted spoon to serve, lol!
Hi there fantastic video as always I’ve enjoyed all your videos from your trip brilliant work and like I said I want to get over there sometime hopefully next year let’s see how things go but brilliant video
Yum fish looked great, chips been done for too long and mushy as you say too watery!!! But will defo miss Martin when you leave Usa!!! He's been a champ And prices way way tooooo high Paula in sussex
U guys should have tried Ellis island it's only 12 dollars for fish and chips and it's loaded. And it's very good I know you guys would give it an 8.8. Only thing is it's pretty busy I'd tried to give it a reservation. It's one of the oldest restaurants in vegas and ridiculous cheap and good. If u consider the price for the food it gets a 9.8 all day. As far as the food alone I'm telling u its still a 8.9. Also I'm not sure if they serve alcohol but u can probably bring it in from the brewery there I think I saw ppl do that
Hi Guys another gr8 vlogg Lee that fish and chips was sooo expensive 😯 Martin didn't realise you have family in Hull 😊👍if you know Smiffys chippy or Cave street chippy their awesome . Thanks for the ride you two loved your it all .see yiu back in New York 😊😊👍👍
I've mentioned in your previous vlogs Lee,you would expect ten out of ten food in NYC and Vegas and especially after paying top money. Love your vlogs with Martin though proper entertainment. 👍🏻👍🏻
The fries looked overdone and the fish was ok, but it's way overpriced. I heard that Fulton Fish Frye in New York New York hotel is supposed to be the best.
Great vlog chaps 👍 with just over a week to go before I head off to New York, do you think the US government will make any travel entry restrictions due to this new variant 🙈
If I was coming from England I wouldn't be looking for fish and chips. Just like if I traveled to the UK I wouldn't be looking for Gulf Coast style seafood and Cajun cooking. And New York Manhattan and Vegas is the most expensive 2 locations you can go to in the states
I'm a big fan of Ri Ra - never had the fish n chips though. I like the Irish Breakfast, Guinness BBQ wings and I had a fantastic prime rib dish there one night years ago. They either took that off the menu or it was a special that night
Reading the comments here & agreeing you should show more of the real America maybe do a trip in a canoe & learn to play the banjo like Burt Reynolds & Ned Beatty did … keep up the good work lads :)
Mr Mac I agree. The general thought about American food is massive portions and cheap prices, but everywhere that you have been are charging astronomical prices, there is no way your average family on holiday there could afford to eat out, maybe with the exception of McDonalds.
Lee it's been a experience to join you in this Las vegas food tour but it's extremely over priced . I personally have no idea how people can afford to be going on holiday to a place like Vegas in this day and age. But thanks for bringing us along 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Got a good question Lee ,? If you save reciepts for certain items , purchases ,eating out ,overnight stays, shops ,can you claim vat back ,or certain taxis,as a UK tourist ,(not business)when return back uk ,🎅
@@TheMacMaster thanks Lee ,since out of Eu alot changed, but please include more if you go abroad if anyone at all how to claim any latest cash back ,anyone ,thanks lee
You both are starting to get a tan... congratulations on 52.000 foodies 💕 the fish looked good.. chips crunchy.. watch your fillings 😊 I said this before, my mum and dad lived there for over 20 years and everything was cheap and portions huge! These prices are HUGE 😬😬😬😳😳😳
When you said you think Americas got expensive my exact reply to that was NO SHIT SHERLOCK lol I simply couldn't afford to go there, not even paying for quality food majority of the time. For the days you were there lee I'd guess food and drink cost at very least 2k without price of hotel. You need Darren John to treat you to a Poppins fish n chips in London 👍
Macmaster can you start selling Martins detachable pony tails in yer merchandise store coz I’d buy me & the wife one for Xmas , I’d wear mine at the front of me head
Another video from the Macmaster, great content as usual, The food looks half decent but I do find that when you go into a themed venue like an Irish theme pub, They try too hard to make it more Irish than a traditional Irish pub would be. I was in an English themed pub in Disney World and they tried that much that the staff was putting on a realy bad fake English accent and tried to pull it off lol At the time it was the F.A Cup final against Man Utd and Arsenal and had it on the tv, I asked the barman who would you support he said " Well United is my team and this being a derby makes it even more exciting " lol but the food is nice...
It has really expensive I absolutely agree. My parents took my niece and sister to Florida 6 years ago for a week and it was cheaper for the 18 days they spent here in the UK.
I went to that pub in 2019. Didn’t rate the food one bit, I would of much preferred the fish and chips you had, I don’t mind chips like that from time to time.
Rip off price's especially when the grub isn't that great ..MacMister as I like to call you if you ever dare to walk the streets of Whitby again try Royal Fisheries on Baxtergate ..I have been going there since I was a wee whippersnapper ..Never ever disappoints that's a promise ..You and Martin are just the best ..I think of that saying when I watch your vlogs together - Are you not entertained ? !! Superb viewing guy's the humour between you both is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣👍
Fish looked OK, chips were awful, mushy peas looked watered down to go further, again expensive, but been enjoying your Vegas Vlogs with Martin, he is such a character. Keep safe!!
Fish looked frozen, cremated chips & if they were Batchelors mushies then I'm the grand mufti of Egypt. I thought you were generous with the scoring. Nice selection of whiskies though. Slainte! 🥃
The fish looks like it was prepared with care...which is more than can be said for the chips & peas. The chips looked like frozen ones and the mushy peas looked simply horrible... I would give it 5 out of 10.
Great vlog Lee,Martin was his usual brilliant self all the best a bit rude elbows on the table tut tut as mother used to say anyway all the best Richard and Tanya from Southampton ❤
You never learn Lee fish"n"chips outside of Yorkshire ain't fish"n"chips...By the way the Yorkshire cultural attache to the 🇺🇲 seemed a little subdued...
i thought the F&C looked nice. i like scraggy chips and my first reaction on seeing the plate was "those chips look nice" 😃 Mushy peas did look a little watery but i think i would have scored it 8/10 However i agree on you comments Lee regarding cost, everything seemed to be expensive ($23.50 = £17.70) i'd rather stick with Wetherspoons for £7.35 (with a soft drink) 👍

In an Irish or Scottish pub that is no alcohol .
Cider in the USA is apple juice. Non-alcoholic

Hi there fantastic video as always I’ve enjoyed all your videos from your trip brilliant work and like I said I want to get over there sometime hopefully next year let’s see how things go but brilliant video
Nice review lee and martin
Its a shame that salaries don't match the prices of the food and lifestyle
Another great vlog guys, which chippy did Martin go to in Hull, and did he have chip spice?
I think the same as I went to in the Hill Vlog. 😊
Not even Peter Mandelson could have mistaken those peas for guacamole .
Ooh wow i went in that bar… I remember having a few Guinnesses and feeling very tired!! Nice bar
You will pleased to get back to the uk 🇬🇧 for some proper grub 👍✈️🇬🇧🍺
Great Vegas / NYC vlogs guys .. gonna miss Martin when you get back to UK Lee .. he needs his own channel 😊😉
Been amazing to watch the Vlogs pals 👍. Never been but yes looks very expensive
More fun, love these vlogs keep safe 🙏🌟🌟🌟
Still laughing at this!!I will definitely miss your Vegas trip vids
Yum fish looked great, chips been done for too long and mushy as you say too watery!!! But will defo miss Martin when you leave
Usa!!!
Chips looked like last nights warm ups. Jesus vegas is expensive.
The fries looked overdone and the fish was ok, but it's way overpriced. I heard that Fulton Fish Frye in New York New York hotel is supposed to be the best.
Great vlog chaps 👍 with just over a week to go before I head off to New York, do you think the US government will make any travel entry restrictions due to this new variant 🙈
ya mates hungover face has been a pleasure throughout this trip :))))
Eye watering expensive, fish looked good , but agree chips more like scrapings.
What was that sauce next to the tartar ? Looked like a nice spicy mayo
Reading the comments here & agreeing you should show more of the real America maybe do a trip in a canoe & learn to play the banjo like Burt Reynolds & Ned Beatty did … keep up the good work lads :)
You've put me off Vegas completely
Mr Mac I agree. The general thought about American food is massive portions and cheap prices, but everywhere that you have been are charging astronomical prices, there is no way your average family on holiday there could afford to eat out, maybe with the exception of McDonalds.
Batter looked thin, fish looked dry, chips looked overcooked like they had no potato left inside, peas looked pale, and watery!
4/10
Next time, do the the small towns, probably cheaper.
Yes as it is my Business. I have an accountant so they sort all that for me. 👍🏼
@@TheMacMaster thanks Lee ,since out of Eu alot changed, but please include more if you go abroad if anyone at all how to claim any latest cash back ,anyone ,thanks lee
The prices are ridiculous! So is all this tipping and service charge malarkey!!
It is expensive - opened my eyes. Far better with the euro pints in Tenerife and you could dine like a king and still have money left over there.
Have you tried fish n chips up here in Bonnie Scotland 🏴 lee?
We are the home of deep frying😅
I'm coming 👍🏼👍🏼
@@TheMacMaster Are you back at the Heart Attack Grill?
When you said you think Americas got expensive my exact reply to that was NO SHIT SHERLOCK lol I simply couldn't afford to go there, not even paying for quality food majority of the time. For the days you were there lee I'd guess food and drink cost at very least 2k without price of hotel. You need Darren John to treat you to a Poppins fish n chips in London 👍
Macmaster can you start selling Martins detachable pony tails in yer merchandise store coz I’d buy me & the wife one for Xmas , I’d wear mine at the front of me head
Martins detachable pony tails look like Admiral Nelson's pony tails or like one of those posh British officers in the 18th Century
Martin Hornblower
Lol x2
Don't agree with Martin, almost everywhere is cheaper than the USA . Not an option financially to go there for most people.
Refried Chips watered down peas you sure your not in a spoons lol ! looks Vile
Crown and Anchor is also really good.
Shame you weren't drinking on this one Lee, look at all the choice of Jamieson you could have had.
Food looked ok but again, just a tad overpriced.
Those chips looked like they had gone cold and then had be refried!
Get well soon mate.
I went off strip to eat at some places and they were great. Amywhere on the strip you get rinsed.
Great vlog Lee,Martin was his usual brilliant self all the best a bit rude elbows on the table tut tut as mother used to say anyway all the best Richard and Tanya from Southampton ❤
Bachelor's mushy peas from a tin are like baby sick.
You never learn Lee fish"n"chips outside of Yorkshire ain't fish"n"chips...By the way the Yorkshire cultural attache to the 🇺🇲 seemed a little subdued...
3 days in Vegas with Lee - you would be subdued too lol 😂 👍🏻
@@thesilverfox9185 🤣😂
$121 what an absolute rip off.
So expensive crazy prices then tips on top couldn’t afford that .
i thought the F&C looked nice. i like scraggy chips and my first reaction on seeing the plate was "those chips look nice" 😃
Mushy peas did look a little watery but i think i would have scored it 8/10
However i agree on you comments Lee regarding cost, everything seemed to be expensive ($23.50 = £17.70) i'd rather stick with Wetherspoons for £7.35 (with a soft drink) 👍
