Great advice! Thank you! You rock!
Love the new voice also love the sweatshirt. Stay beautiful
Thanks 😂 I’m glad you liked it!
If you are part of the first cohort returning to a country where the Peace Corps was absent for a couple of years, do what I did and reach out to volunteers who served before the interruption. In my case, the interruption was COVID-19, but this also applies if the Peace Corps left a country because of a natural disaster, political instability, etc., and is now returning. Some of the information will be out of date, of course, but it's better than nothing.
Good advice!
one thing I disagree on is when you said don't bring a lifestraw - that was one of the most useful things for me - great vid tho!
Huh! Everyone is a bit different. Where were you?

When do you find out where you're going to be volunteering in the Peace corps and is it always out of the country?
Question: DO YOU GET ACCEPTED INTO PEACE CORPS IF YOU HAD FELONIES IN PAST, OR PAST SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND NOW SOBER TYPE OF THINGS?
It’s possible! It is a case by case thing.
What if i take medication that is a controlled substance (Ritalin for example) ? Do they allow you to bring that? How about cannabis, since its been legalized so much here in the states, is it dangerous like that basketball player who went to russia?
I know this is unrelated, but when do they drug test. I use Marijuana for medical reasons and I don't want to not be able to go because of it
I don’t recall being drug tested.
Your real issue might be.......getting what you seem to feel you need Marijuana.
what about being able to get your medication when you are working with the peace corps. Like inhalers or other meds. How does that work?
Great Question! The answer depends on the country you serve in. Certain countries do not accept applicants with certain health complications (for your safety). Usually medication would be mailed to me when I was in Peace Corps Madagascar.
I have a question.. what is the age minimum and maximum for joining the Peace corps?
As a Peace Corps volunteer myself.......there is no age limit........except you must be age 18. Must qualify regarding physical health.
Peace Corps is about serving a host country......not serving yourself. Therefore...... packing the basic is all you need. Two changes of clothing....one of which your wearing. You can wash your clothing in a sink or bath tub anywhere here in the USA. Peace Corps fills in most of the other voids.
Once in country..... then look for the more important things. And that will be very limited because if your in remote area........there are very few needs !
Foods can very a lot..... where I lived in Liberia there were very few veggies. I could not eat them anyway. Id vomit !
When state side Peace Corps cooked every meal with onions and garlic......or veggies. They would not change their cooking for anyone. Therefore I had to spend my own money to eat out......mainly at a fast food place " Judys " " Wendys " etc. I lost weight.....and was always sick if I ate Peace Corps food. Once in Liberia life changed for the better ! Country food.......with out all the extras. Meat and rice ! Heaven at last !
But.....Peace Corps told me Id be in trouble because I could not even eat food here in the USA. That was so untrue !
Able to eat any meat under the sun..... ant eater...... elephant trunk.......monkey.....ground hog.....termites......etc.
Biggest issue was........ driver ants ! They would eat " YOU " out of house and home !
Bottom line.........expect to live with out ! Not with !
There’s nothing wrong with going without. I’m just saying that’s not the purpose of the peace corps. There are three goals. Eating bugs not being one of them.
@@jodimiddendorf Bugs....or any food........are needed to survive. At least that would be and still is my goal
