    I've really enjoyed this series, Professor Dave. Thank you for taking the time to make it. As a suggestion, since I suspect you will bundle this into a series like you do with so many other multi-part topics, I suggest you call this bundle "The Wisdom of Trees." A great quote to round out this series.

    Dendrochronology was used to date the Cascadia earthquake that happened in 1700!
    Scientists studied the "ghost forests" of red cedar trees in Oregon and Washington. Using dendrochronology they determined that the last growth year before the earthquake/tsunami was 1699. Archaeological evidence shows that several coastal villages were flooded and abandoned in 1700. Oral traditions of the indigenous peoples that lived in the pacific northwest coastal regions indicated that there had been an earthquake and tsunami flooding. They didn't have an exact date but knew how many generations had passed. Japan had historical records of the tsunami that occurred. The waves occurred in Japan on January 27/28. Carbon dating done on sitka spruce suggested that the trees died between 1695 and 1720 (less precise than the dendrochronology but still the correct range!).
    So notice that the dendrochronology data, carbon dating, historical info, and archaeology all corroborated each other. I think that is just beautiful.
    Tell this example to your friends that don't believe in science!

    the best about this type of dating is that its so down to earth that you can always point to it in case the people your arguing with refuse to acknowledge methods like isotope dating for example. you know, just in case you need to convince someone that the earth is older than 6000 years.

    • @backstreetfan2887
      @backstreetfan2887 3 роки тому

      Yes, indeed!
      Tell young earth creationists this example to help them understand that isotope dating has merit:

      Admittedly dating something that happened in 1700 is not the same as dating something that happened millions of years ago, but the point of the example is that radiometric dating does have merit. Sadly, young earth creationists think that radiometric dating is no good, so I like to show them how multiple lines of evidence corroborate each other.

      They don't believe in it. Or they believe that it is impossible for scientists to get anything close to accurate information from it. This allows them to disregard it as a whole and not worry about it.
      Actually, I'm talking more about carbon dating, but I'm pretty sure the same would apply to dendrochronology.

    I have a chemistry question for you. SpaceX super chills the fuel and liquid oxygen for their rockets. Does this effect the exhaust temperature? If you burn "A" and "warm" liquid oxygen and get a combustion temp of 1500 deg C, if you super chill A and the liquid oxygen, will the combustion temp change? If it does not, there would seem to be more heat change, so where would that energy come from?

    You can tell if a youtube flat earther is a true believer by asking him or her "Can I use dendrochronology on you to find out how old you are?"
    If they agree without hesitation then they are a proper believer.
