I've tried it like you show and it just doesn't work properly. The first link keeps randomly flipping it's mate direction with the plane and the following links fold over onto each other. I have read all over the internet and Solidworks forums and there are many people having the same problems with modelling a working chain.
Nice Video! I'm trying to use the path mate to make a wheel and axle follow a cam profile in another part. The trick is the path I want it to follow isn't 2D like the path you have. Does the path mate work with 3d sketches? Thanks for the video again
I am actually having that exact same issue. As I am adding links and mating them, the links will randomly flip or collapse several deep upon themselves. Any known solutions or causes to why this happens?
Awesome tutorial, exactly what I needed :)

same issue....and i´ve tryed with other constraints than the ones presented on this video tutorial, and i didn´t found solution.
Are your links fully defined in the part drawing?
Do the links ever flip onto each other? I am having that issue at the moment.
