I love OFMD because one scene Jenkins drops the most heartwrenching emotional baggage onto your back and then he hits you over the head with the funniest thing you've ever seen. This scene was similar in that it made me tear up as Ed started moving and gained the will to live again.... and then there's fucking mermaid!Stede 😂
It literally made me sob, cry like a dog... especially that perfect choice of music 😢

Well, in the first season, they introduced Ed only at the end of the 3rd episode and made them kiss at the end of the 9th.

The song choice in this scene gives me chills. Brilliant
every single time I watch this I burst into tears. GOD. the intensity. the yearning. the regret. the all-encompassing, consuming, breathtaking love. the metaphor of love being as easy as breathing again - love literally giving the breath of life at the last moment. stede rising as the sun. ed's eyes full of gentleness and love. Kate Bush's fantastic vocals. for the last year I have read almost all the fanfics on ao3 (and there is so many fantastic works out there!) but in my wildest dreams I could not have imagined this. I cannot believe we get to watch this beautiful canon love. making me feel every emotion at once.....and im sobbing again :')

@@Sharpe1502 Actually it's really a really common fanfiction trope. It's tied into queer escapist fantasy. The idea of a fantastical world hidden below and away from normal society. And mermaids are imprisoned, tortured, experimented on and/or killed if normal people catch them. Se the metaphor? And of course an entire generation grew up with The Little Mermaid. But in fanfic it's much more likely a human turns into a mermaid than the other way around.
I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve watched this scene and I’m always smiling through it to the end.

I really hope this pattern of “once a year Kate Bush emerges from the void to licenses her song to a show before retreating back into the void as said song explodes in popularity and saves lives left and right” continues for years to come.
