Lol even in 2006 phones could do more than just make calls. Even in the early 2000s. Perhaps even in the late 90s. Although if we're getting around that time they were pretty limited on what they could do.
Edit: In the 90's expensive (like 800 bucks) phones had touchscreens and some even had their own version of Apple/Android pay! This is when texting and calling was getting more popular too. I believe you could also choose your own color and ringtone too for all phones at the time.

I personally HATE the curved edge so I am not to happy about the updates. X-x and the heck is the home button for the iphone going, why would they get rid of it after the work at making the other 'button" feel like a button? I am taking such good care of my 6s plus so it lasts as long as possible XD didnt like the 7, not sure if im going to like the 8. Might have to start looking into LG or something

They are just going the android route and switching to on screen. It is much more fool proof. I personally love home buttons and I will miss them but I don't see them in the future. LG doesn't have home button either, so I don't know how that would help, at least you would switch to superior OS.

This is a big deal for me as I've consistently been using iPhones since the 3GS.
I've used the iPhone 3GS, 4, 5S, 6S, and currently am using the 7.
Dave ... the s versions have always been speed only, it looks like the 8 is coming out this year as well.
Brendan Branson the 3GS gave you the ability to film video on the camera without using a third party app but besides that you're right, S has always been speed upgrades
not necessarily. 3gs gave video filming, 4s gave siri, 5s gave touch id, and 6s gave 3d touch.
Dave I've already switched. Speed definitely isn't a problem. Using an S7 with themes, launchers, and icon packs. Faster than you'd think .

It was only created because there was no other option at the time. Buttons break and have to be repaired. If its built into the screen thats one less thing they have to worry about repairing during the warranty.

I love both IOS and Android phones but I'm always happy looking at new designs coming out in the future I love a good looking phone but I also like a phone that works well and takes a beating without breaking
