You are what you made it to be. I'm 88 years old and not homeless because I made it so. My life motto is, "Don't depend on or trust anyone, but yourself".
I agree. These "children" of the homeless parents should be ashamed of themselves. Their parents took care of them now its the adult children's turn to take care of their parents.
Yes, probably. My daughter got physical with me because I want to leave the house I’m renting from her, which I gave her the down payment to buy. I’m 73. Want to run from her, but can’t find subsidized housing. Waiting lists are years long.
That is so appalling. I am left speechless. And the other woman "They have their own lives"...... 5 children, and they can't get together to find some housing for their mother? What kind of world are we living in now?
What’s up with so many woman that can do that to their mothers. My sister is evil and tried stealing money from my mom and she’s rich and doesn’t need more. My mom struggled her whole life and did without for us kids.
No senior should be homeless. We should have senior apartments and assisted living communities that all American seniors can afford. This is a national disgrace.
They have no homeless in other countries and the Netherlands they take care of their people ..the United states dont care just want us to pay more and the streets are full of homeless even woman with children
She have five kids but non of them helping her? Wow I lost faith in having kids. I would never let this happen to my dad. My dad right now is living with us and it will stay that way until he pass away.
This country is not structured to have multigenerational families sharing a home like other cultures. Other countries do not have this problem because their kids are taught to value the importance of family.
Many years ago that very same thing happened right on the street I lived on. Big house, the son moved in with his family to mother's to 'take care' of her. Next thing you know she was in a home and the house was sold. He moved out of state and left her in the convelesent home. Pretty common thing I think.
My mom did. She lived there til she could not moved in with us and she herselp put the house up for sale. Names were on her bank accounts as well. She trusted us and she knew it. It was an honor to have her live with me til she died. I still miss her and my dad and it is 14 yrs for her and 24 for him
But the newest stimulus package contains millions of dollars to study transsexuals in Lebanon!!!! Yet we have hundreds of Americans who are elderly living on the streets. Our world has gone completely mad!
5 kids and she can’t be on a mattress in the living room? Sickening. How do people live with themselves? I had an old dog that had bad arthritis and I couldn’t afford to eat and buy his meds so each day I had one peanut butter sandwich and I bought his pain meds. And this is a human being with family. I have no words.
Good for you; that is what you should do for innocent animals. However, every older person is not necessarily a nice person, just because they have aged. Also, those who are independent in personality and nice, may not want to burden or interfere with their adult children's life or lifestyle. I certainly would not want to live with mine, and we are very close.
@@poppyflower7873 thank you for that perspective....I guess I wouldn't want to live with my future kids either if I've been living independently for so long. Although if being homeless was my only option I would either try to live with a roommate or ask kids for help.
American boomers often kick their kids out at 18. In such cases, It's not surprising their kids wouldn't feel any responsibility towards them. If none of her kids want anything to do with her, there's probably a good reason
Hello, Margie! How are you doing? It's bad for us to leave our parents who cared for us in the cold when she is old. Although I don't have any relatives growing up. Where are you from and I hope you don't mind me asking?
In the USA, kids are kicked out to live on the street as soon as they turn 18; in return they give the finger to their elderly parents when they grow up. In Asia, you are allowed to live beyond your 30s with your parents, especially when there's economic hard times going on; in return you are expected to care for your elderly parents who sacrificed themselves for you when you were young.
Wow...just heartbreaking 💔. There must be something legal the woman could do to recoup the $ from the sale of her home. Not only was this act a despicable thing to do to anyone, much less your own parent, it *had* to have been illegal, no?

Yes, the story of letting an elderly live homeless is heartbreaking to us as a nation. Greetings from Preston and I hope you don't mind me texting. How are you doing and where are you from?
It is strange to me, why in this country people move out of the family house and live on their own place. What about 3 generations under the same roof?
For the lady that has 5 kids, I can't believe one of them couldnt have picked her up from the hospital and at least found her a hotel if they don't want her living with them. Seems outrageous. I don't have the best relationship with mine but I would bring her home anyway. I could not have her out on the street.
Imaginaryhomegirl - Your Mother brought you into this World. No matter your circumstances, please find it in your heart to better your relationship with her. She is not perfect - neither are you. Often misunderstandings are all that keeps families from loving each other. Break through your difficult relationship with her if you are able to. Life is too short for families to not be close to each other. Could you send your mother flowers with a little note saying "Thinking of You". You might find that releases a lot of love your mother holds for you in her heart & is not able to express to you. Beneath all family misunderstandings, a deeper love awaits. You are commendable to want to care for & shelter your mother if she needed you to. Shows you have a measure of love for her. Praying for your mother & daughter healing.
I'm glad and grateful that my oldest brother provided a nice home for my Mom. He literally bought a house for her to live in. Later my sister moved in the same house to help look after Mom.

The treatment of seniors in this country is criminal. Hospitals have shoved me out the door before still ill, in one case with a blood count of eight (fourteen is normal). Companies make up reasons to eliminate older employees which is illegal. The real eye opener is the same abusers complain the loudest when they wind up on the receiving end of the same types of elderly abuse they dished out.
They're giving hundreds of Millions to Foreign Countries, for Gender Studies and New Cars. You and I are going to the Kennedy Center right? Giving Millions to Iran, which chants, "Death To America!" Illegals Pouring In, Open Borders. CCP Biden is planning on Raising Taxes.
What you say is so true but the state governments are doing very little to help older people yet there are 54 million seniors. We should write our Congress and state governments and tell them to do something or we will not vote them in again.
Why do the elders feel that they are not part of their children’s family? In India even the poorest of poor don’t abandon their elderly parents. They are all in it through thick or thin. Strong Family ties and mutual interdependency is what is needed in US.
What you're saying is true, but this is America, where it's every person for themselves, even if it means your elderly mother is homeless or lives on the street. Don't put your trust in your children or grandchildren. Put your trust in Jesus.

Used to be that way here too. The problem is the GVT set out to destroy loyalty to the family and substitute loyalty to the GVT instead. To do this they created 'womens lib' in the 70s, got mom out of the house and the kids into daycare. It truly was a plot, the added bonus was MORE PAYROLL TAXES TO USE. Those were the years when the roots of all today's problems were planted. Kids raised by people from cradle to college, By people who are at best indifferent to them 8-10 hours a day do not form close bonds to their families. Amazing the autism and all the 'spectrum' of it's symptoms seem to follow a trend. Now we have people of an age with aspects of it raising their own kids. I know a bit about the subject of childhood and proper stimulation of the brain. Back in the 70s Early Childhood Ed. was my major... Dissociative disorder was a hot topic then... They knew what they (GVT)were doing and why. Today we see the result in many people under 50.
I had 8 siblings. I quit school and work to take care of my dad before he died from cancer. My mom was disabled so she lived with me and I supported her until she passed from cancer 5 years after dad. None of my brothers and sisters helped in any way.

@@anatureperson5551 The mom could have been awful to her kids. She could be too set in her ways to live with them. Maybe they can’t afford to take her in…It’s never as simple as concluding that they’re all horrible kids
This is shameful! We have failed our elders. Expecting their children to care for them is preposterous - too many children grow cruel and indifferent. This woman had her home sold out from under her by her daughter. Some children are amazingly selfish and cruel to their parents.
It IS up to children to take care of their parents just like their parents took care of them it is NOT the taxpayers' (government's) responsibility when there is family. They should be arrested for abuse.
Actually she GAVE her home to her daughter, a mistake we should ALL learn from. Guess it is all to common now. All of us in our senior years should realize it is US that need protection, not our adult kids. They can save for their future, we should not sacrifice ours that we worked scrimped and saved for.
Are they selfish and cruel? Some are but many are have valid reasons. They are not growing cruel they are not letting society and religion guilt you to taking care of parents who are verbally, physically or emotionally abusive.
I can't imagine my parents ever having to have lived in a home either. I was a CNA in a nursing home for a short stint. It was absolutely horrific how the nurses neglected the residents. They were treated no better than caged dogs. OSHA was a joke, they never did anything about repeated reports of neglect. I was so emotionally distressed not being able to do more, I had to find a different career.

Gosh. Sounds like me, but I’m only 73. Have had hip replacement, arthritis, digestive problems and more. Living in my daughter’s house, which I gave her the money to buy. But conflict with her is unbearable. Can’t find housing subsidized. There are long waiting lists. I’m scared.
so sad .. to raise a family...and to be left behind, kills me to see seniors abandoned by their families...back in my parents days , we took care of our own..
Im 64. My dad had dementia. Had his own home. But got sick and could not live alone anymore. I took him in. He wouldnt do anything I told him. He was getting to the place where he couldnt walk alone. Wouldnt call for help and wouldnt use a walker. I have a husband who still works full time. So I was on my own with no help. My dad started getting mean with me. I kept him for a week and realized I couldnt do all the things he needed me to do, keep up my own home, and do for myself and husband. So I felt I had no choice but to put him in nursing home. He needed 24/7 care, and there was no way I could do that alone. Sometimes there are reasons a person cannot provide care for an elderly parent. I do good to do for myself and husband. He lived almost a year in the nursing home and passed away.

Senior subsidized housing and the government funding has seen cuts for many years, when it should have been increased. That means existing housing units were lost.

This story is super super sad! It is heartbreaking! One cannot rely on one’s children, relatives or friends. One can only rely on one’s self and suicide.
How shocking! I cared for my dear mother as best I could for twenty-five years until she died and for most of the time I was relatively badly off. She didn't want to move from her friends and the neighbourhood she knew so well. She had only a tiny income, so I paid bills, bought clothes and food, and visited very regularly (a round trip of about 400 miles). I regarded it as a sacred duty to look after mother in her old age and frailty. Apart from that, seniors should be provided with accommodations and an income that enables them to live with dignity.

Only in America! I left precisely because I refuse to grow old there. Despicable that the wealthiest country on earth treats their elderly like garbage.
It’s painful , but it’s happening in other countries too. I was just watching a video about homeless women in Australia, & UA-cam suggested many videos like this one. These countries have failed their seniors, disabled working class , poor & working poor.
They need to help these people. How about a highrise hotel, with large studio apartments, with a mini kitchen and lite meals down stairs in a dining room. With once a week housekeeping. For maybe half of their SSI payments. ? We need private philanthropist to help us with affordable housing for our seniors. The population is shifting, soon there will be more seniors "baby boomers" than before.
True in countries like India u get to see so many orphanages, senior citizens shelters run by philanthropic individuals who are not necessarily super rich.
@@meuass Regarding, Philanthropists paying for senior affordable housing .. If a rich person sets up a "Foundation" like the William Randolph foundation, he can only use the money for charity's not for private purposes. So he can give money to say, a private hospital for new radiology equipment, a homeless shelter, or to inter city kids for a vocational training program, but not for a yacht. He can also use the money from the foundation the for rent of an office and staff. But not a private limousine. People only set up this type of foundation if they have more money than anyone can spend in a lifetime. I can send you a list of potential donors, if you have a charity that needs money. You just have to write them a letter (grant proposal) and they send you money. There's directions on wikipedia about "How to write a grant proposal"

There is an absolute need for plenty more high density social housing, including wheelchair accessible senior buildings. If there is a will there is a way. It needs to be a priority though.
I think it would help if more seniors were aware/educated that they could do what a lot of younger people do and rent a place together/ have roommates, if there homeless because they are priced out of the rental market it might be the solution for them, if they are homeless then they often don't have a strong support system so there is not much tying them to where they live so hoping on a bus and heading to a cheaper location is also an option, maybe if senior organizations helped facilitate these options it could help more seniors

I'm 63. I spent 17 years (1992-2009) as a caregiver to my elderly parents and my grandmother. I was in graduate school in another state. I moved back into the family home to care for them. My father had a stroke and went missing for 4 days before being found. He had a total of 8 strokes, 5 smaller ones that went undetected before he went missing, the major stroke that caused him to go missing and caused stroke-induced dementia, and two later strokes. My mother had congestive heart failure and had open heart surgery. My grandmother had TIAs, kept falling, fractured her back and eventually had to go into a nursing home. I was an only child and I stayed by each of them until their deaths. Anytime someone has children, and they say they don't want to go live with those children because they don't want to be a "burden," there's more to that story. Somehow. there's been a serious break within that family long ago. There is no way responsible, loving children would abandon their parents (or even their grandparents) to be old, sick, and living on the street.

Sad! America seem to except this is OK. I am quite elderly and infirmed and will probably be homeless in a month or two. I signed over my property I owned more than 60 years because they lied and told me I would have a place to live. Less than two years they sold it. I put my family on joint accounts........ my grandparents took care of their parents until they’re hundreds I took care of my grandparents until the 90s. Would give my life for my family never ever dreamed they would behave so despicably just for money The Bible does not say money is the root of all evil it says the love of money. Besides being terrified of what tomorrow will bring I’m embarrassed. I got smart too late and old too fast. I’ve been on all sorts of waiting list for five years. There’s something wrong with Sacramento California even before the pandemic.

Great suggestion. But, affordable housing is only a temporary solution. Any dwelling will soon require "up-keep," then after a while the place becomes unlivable. Think about it. Just pointing out.
It is not up to "them" to help the elderly; it is up to the families! They should not be allowed to dump their own people onto the rest of society or let them be homeless. Do you see Asian homeless? Never. They are responsible.

There are so many like her. Unfortunately
Yes, probably. My daughter got physical with me because I want to leave the house I’m renting from her, which I gave her the down payment to buy. I’m 73. Want to run from her, but can’t find subsidized housing. Waiting lists are years long.

Im one of those boomers. Im 64. I am married. But if anything happened to my husband, I would not want to live with my daughter. Nothing personal. They have such a different way of living. I could live in a travel trailer in their driveway, but not in the same home 24/7. I hope I never have to move in.
@@sharoncrawford3042 64, no husband, I'm dead to 1 son for turning him in for child abuse, my daughter's relationship is like yours. My only son who cares about me will be going to prison for years & years soon. My SS is $750 a month. Biden will probably steal my 401k. I owe $38,000 on my home.
I suspect that most of these homeless elderly people are too ashamed to admit that their adult children refuse to help them.
When we start throwing people out onto the streets who are 70 or older, it is a sign that our society has truly gone to the devil.

There is an absolute need for plenty more high density social housing, including wheelchair accessible senior buildings.
If there is a will there is a way. It needs to be a priority though.
Hello greetings from 🇺🇸
I think it would help if more seniors were aware/educated that they could do what a lot of younger people do and rent a place together/ have roommates, if there homeless because they are priced out of the rental market it might be the solution for them, if they are homeless then they often don't have a strong support system so there is not much tying them to where they live so hoping on a bus and heading to a cheaper location is also an option, maybe if senior organizations helped facilitate these options it could help more seniors

No one wants to take care of abusive narcissistic parents. The kids are cutting them off going no contact for their mental health.
California needs to stop raising rent on elderly and let them live there golden years in peace.
This is a disgrace. It would never happen in the UK as we have free healthcare.
No elderly should ever be homeless, Period! They should Automatically get housing!
Fannie mae put my 84 year old grandpa out on the street when they knowingly stole my grandfather's home. He was late on a home improvement loan payment and the loanshark refused pmt. His property was too valuable they wanted it and didn't care that Grandpa was elderly. We offered to pay it off to keep him in his house and they refused.
God help all the older people. Take care of them give them shelter and food too.

Shame on America that there is not more housing for seniors who are in danger being on the streets. She needs to be safe and we should be able to put here there. Kids who talk a older woman into selling her home and then she becomes homeless that kid should go to jail.

Children of boomers don't want to help their parents. Some do, of course but from stories from other boomers say their kids do not think they owe them a thing. Sad. The breakdown of the family unit has led to this. As an old lady myself, my kids don't care.
They work all their lives and they get older finish in the street in one of supposedly the richest countries of the world what a shame is just a shame .
So true.elementary schools should have moral science as a subject and kids should be taught selflessness n to take care of their elders and respect them.

Bad idea. They should be living with their families, not in some shopping mall.
I don't want to live with my kids. Cost would be a worse burden on them. I'd rather be homeless than cause all to be homeless.
That's because you don't really believe they love you😥 there's no way my parents would ever face homelessness no way!!!!

Unfortunately, the young today have no interest in their parents. Only when the Will is being read.

This is horrible. California's government needs to change.
Why don't they build a lot more affordable housing places for seniors?!! No one should have to live like this in America!
