This reminds me so much of shopping for hurricanes here in FL. Sometimes I wish we had seasons, and then I see those icy roads and appreciate the blessing of tropical weather!
So agree but happy it only stays cold for like 2 days lol but would love winter summer, fall in spring would be nice
Watching you doing your shopping at Costco reminded me of when our kid's was teenagers & we went threw 8 gallons of milk about every 4 days. Plus we always had 2 extra kid's most of the time.

Your shopping videos are always interesting. Yours is slightly higher than the Costco that I usually go to. The Alaskan winter is just beginning but its so beautiful to see the snow.
I hold my breath every time I see you or your hubby driving in the snow. I LOVE snow, but not driving in it. Sadly, we get very little snow where I live, because I just love to watch it fall. It’s so beautiful and brings a sense of peace. Thanks for another great video!

@ Deborah Huckaby, I lived in North Pole , AK. When I was in my mid 20’s for 4 years....had so much fun! Now, in my late 50’s... there is no way I could see myself living there now! I still keep in-touch w/friends that live in the town of North Pole, Fairbanks & other towns in Alaska! I must confess ..... sometimes I do miss North Pole Alaska, but only ...when I reminisce!

I just can't deal with all the snow and freezing temperatures. My son lives in Michigan and wants me to move up there. They get a lot of snow also and it gets too cold. I told him to forget it. Lol.
Born and raised in Western NY by PA. We regularly get slammed with snow and negative temperatures during winter(which also last 6 months).
I think at some point you just get used to it happening every year lol. I mean I still hate being cold and the snow. But we make it work and you know what you need to do every year to stay safe, healthy and prepared.
What I love are we all are sooooo human. Forgetting things happens to the best of us!

I've been watching your videos for a long time but I'm still so obsessed with how pretty your home is.
The snow is so beautiful. In the winter I always at least have a sweater on at home so it's funny seeing Bert and the kiddos in short sleeves. Your house must be extremely well insulated! I love the fireplace too.

Where is your christmas tree!!! enjoy it!!!! i live in michigan! i put mine up every year on oct 31st, and its so beautiful looking at the lights! it takes your mind off negative going on in the world! I'm in my mid 50s and its my husband and me! no kids living at home! i put mine up early like my mother did! IT JUST MAKES THINGS GO BETTER!!! right now with all the negative going on it makes myself and husband really happy! it just make life better! SOMERS IN ALASKA I LOVE YOUR FAMILY AND CHANNEL!! CAUSE ITS SO POSITIVE!!! HAPPY PEOPLE PUT YOU TREE UP!! IT PUTS A SMILE ON YOUR FACE!!!!!

I live in Alaska and am DREADING the winter. But for some reason I'm here, cuddled up in my bed, watching videos of alaskans talking about winter.
In the winter I always say a prayer while on the road. I have bad winter driving PTSD 😬

Perfect timing, more lockdowns in Seattle area, I'm going to spend the day assessing the pantry although I'm pretty stocked up for the same reasons as you, being near mountains and hills you never know what winter will be like....
For emergencies: rice, beans, pasta, and bread...high calorie, high yield staples that can sustain a family for months....I begin stocking these during summer so I can focus on perishables during my more limited winter shopping trips.

My family loves watching your family's adventures and daily tasks. In regards to price comparison, your grocery bill is a dream price to us. When I buy loads like that here in CA, it's about double that price. Hope you stay safe and warm with all that snow. God bless!

@@josieloveyou2624 you can stick it in a garage or shed type place too, if you don't have a generator. Snow is basically nature's cooler anyway. As a Canadian this is what my family's done when the power goes out for a couple days

I found your channel last winter after I had a dream that I had moved to Alaska. It was one of those dreams that continued all night long and was very vivid. It compelled me to search for life in Alaska and that is how I found you. Ever since I have wanted to move there. I love it when it is cold and snowy and I can just snuggle up on the couch and watch movies all day. Last year there was hardly any snow and and no snow days for the kids. When I was a kid in the 70's I lived in Montreal and it snowed A LOT. I remember walking to school in the snow. I think the only times the schools closed was when it was really icy outside. Do schools in Alaska close for snow or ice?

First time I've seen you and your hubby I usually watch UA-cam on my TV because it's much bigger to watch but I do also watch on my phone I just find you both absolutely fantastic. You're very relatable very down to earth lovely personalities and your little ones also are the same just sweet kids.
The only thing when I watch it on television I don't quite know how to hit subscribe and make a comment and so on and so l get on the phone and I do it here.
Thank you for filling us in on while you're there and all your shopping trips. I'm a senior and of course have been trapped in the house because of covid so UA-cam is a great source of entertainment. You are a lovely, lovely, family and it is a joy to watch your blog. It seems your Costco prices are not much different from the Costco prices in Prescott, AZ. It takes a special kind of person to live in the winters of Alaska. I would be depressed 24/7. I sunshine here in AZ rejuvenates me. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
Glad you got home safe with the grocery haul. When you said it was 35F I was telling my phone quite forcefully to get home now before the rain started turning to sleet and freezing rain.😄 I lived in MT and ME and I know that slim margin between safe and slick driving. I had many white-knuckle drives home from work in that kind of mess. Always a nice feeling to know the kitchen is restocked when bad weather is hanging around.

Jessica and Bert, Thank you for doing what you do with the kids. Your teaching your kids Real Life and how to help out and do in a household. My girls know about it too. Not many kids know and they also don’t want to know either. Life may happen but nothing is by Magic. My girls pull their weight (especially my youngest) but they are 22 & 20 and in college too. So, they will be doing great when they are out on their own I just hope it is No Time Soon.
This past weekend we had our second (or maybe 3rd...) big strom and lost power for 23.5 hours... it was cold!! The high was 18 out with the windchill of -4. With this last strom I learned what I need get more of incase of power outages again. I hope your strom didn't get too bad!
So interesting to watch as we don’t quite have the needs of preparedness down in Seattle! We have always found Costco items to be too big in quantity for our family (just 4 of us), and our storage in a small house, but as our kids grow, we’re thinking it might be a good option to get a membership.
It's been quite a while since I last watched your videos, it's been since 2018. I noticed that I had missed a lot since, your kids have sure grown up fast. I am glad to be a subscriber to your channel again. Keep up the good work.
