It took me FOREVER to remember this game! I t came out the year I was born, but I played the hell out of it as soon as I could. I think I got past the first level maybe once. Soon as I heard that title music, it came flooding back.
Your aforementioned story about how _Hybris_ coerced you into buying an Amiga reminds me of a friend who lived very close to me; he got an Amiga after I showed him a playable demo of _Myth_ on the Amiga. He was just blown away by the sound and graphics and it whetted his appetite for 16-bit gaming.
For no reason at all, I just had to hear the music right now, so I loaded this up. I remembered there being my golden trio of shooters on the Amiga for concept and music achievement. They were Blood Money, Xenon2, and Hybris.
The Atari ST, a computer released a bit earlier and that cost less than two thirds of the Amiga price, could also do pretty good "coin-op standards" shooters e.g. Xenon, Silkworm or Wings of Death just to name a few. And then there's the X68000, released later but that still belongs to the same generation and this computer is on a whole other level (but it was much more expensive).
Thanks! Boy oh boy did this bring back memories! I remember the '4' being better than the '5' in terms of defence. Music was great too. Times sure have changed...
Never played this game but it seems pretty cool. Also, interestingly enough, it's considered the spiritual predecessor to Battle Squadron. Also the company's name, Cope-Com, not a nod to Capcom at all. But I think that you're a bit harsh on the ST so I'm just gonna point out a few things as a reminder :P The Atari ST was released a bit earlier and cost less than two thirds of the Amiga price so it's quite logical that it wasn't as good as the Amiga BUT, but, it's still a very good computer for its time and the first true 16-bit home system. It's also a more reliable machine + it has MIDI ports + it apparently handles MIDI sequencing better. And despite not being as capable in some technical aspects, many multiplats are actually about as good if not better on ST: Xenon, Wings of Death, Vroom, Bio Challenge, IK+, North & South, Panza Kick Boxing... So all things considered, it's amazing what the Atari ST offered for its time and for its retail price. I have such a soft spot for that era of gaming and the european computer scene was extremely rich and creative but I think that the ST tends to be underrated or simply misunderstood but personally I love both the ST and the Amiga.
This was one of my favorite games while growing up. I used to be able to do the first 2 stages perfect ( got all the secret points and never got hit unless i wanted to downgrade ( i switched between 4 and 5. the expansion on 4 was totally overpowered )
The good O'l AMIGA was a Masterpiece of engineering at the time. It was the worst thing that Commodore was managed so badly that Killed the best machine on the market. Still got my Antique Amiga though it hasn't been turned on for over a decade.
Unless you buy a second hand amiga A500, the only way to play this is through an emulator, they're not 100% accurate compared to the original hardware but at least you'll get to play it. I'm not an expert in the emulation field as I don't use them but try WINUAE, it's an amiga emulator site.
I upload all Amiga games in mono so they can also be listened through headphones which sound completely wrong when listening to Amiga stereo through them, check my Jaguar 220 soundtrack for example.
None whatsoever,...which beckers the question what wa the point of a choice?! Please check out my "Let's Longplay" video of Hybris, full playthrough without cheats with commentary :-)
AS A BONUS I HAVE INCLUDED THE IN-GAME MUSIC (time 41:33) AND HIGH SCORE MUSIC (time 52:26) AT THE END OF THIS VIDEO.
This is one of my first Amiga games and maybe my preferred one, and that wonderfull music !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! N°1 ! Remember it was in 1988 !! Stunning !

One of those games I can complete without continuing, the sole reason I sold my ST to get an Amiga.

and X-out ;), same as you except i prefer xenon to xenon 2. R-Type and silkworm no very far
Not a word for SWIV?
Best vertical shooter of 1988 hands down. Also the soundtrack was memorable.
A home computer game with coin-op standards.
That time only Amiga could do this.
Nice!

@@ryzmaker11 All the games you mentioned on AtariST does not move at 50fps, sorry.
Great Game! The Amiga will never die!
Damn straight! :-)
I played this for hours with my Dad, amazing
ULTRA GEIL - BEST GAME - I LOVE IT

Thank you for the video. It's even better IRL sitting with an Amiga (real Amiga). It's really mind blowing. I can recommend it to you all.
Take a look at my "Let's Longplay" of this classic, contains commentary :-)

Oliver Seet 4 was usually better than 5, oddly enough.

is there a way or site where can be played? I spend hours and hours with this game.. I miss Amiga..... and I loved weapon #4

betocole Try Battle Squadron game - it is very similar - search for Android, iOS, PC, new Amiga...
awesome, thank you!!
Nykk Deetronic you do know that battle squadron is really hybris 2.
The sound is sadly recorded in mono. I remember the stereo music on this blowing my ST-owning self away, too, back in 88/89.
I upload all Amiga games in mono so they can also be listened through headphones which sound completely wrong when listening to Amiga stereo through them, check my Jaguar 220 soundtrack for example.
Hence why i bought this beauty of a machine :-)
Eines Der besten spiele die ich auf dem Amiga 500 gezockt habe ! ^^
Best Terra Cresta clone!
Took Terra Cresta and blew it away :-)
@@ZEUSDAZ Which, especially for Joffa version on the spectrum, is NOT a small undertaking: this one is arcade quality!
Best Game :)

Yep it was and still is an Amiga diamond!
isn't there a sound effect missing when the game starts? Like a guitar solo of like 2 seconds?
Nope, this is the original disk with all correct sounds, so everything here is in full.
Yes that small piece of music only happens at the start of levels 2 & 3, level 1 is just a chrome sound which can be heard in my upload.
Please... solve my life-long mystery:
Did it make ANY difference if you chose Lovett or Maverick?
None whatsoever,...which beckers the question what wa the point of a choice?! Please check out my "Let's Longplay" video of Hybris, full playthrough without cheats with commentary :-)
Just press 'S' during gameplay, for disabling the sfx.
Yeah I know but the sound fx are increddible.
To listen to the music alone you only have to pause the game.
