legit hands down the best colourist davinci channel out there, I've seen a few other high quality ones but their mostly paid tutorials . Salute and respect from an amateur in learning color grading
Short, sweet, and to the point! I just subscribed to your channel yesterday. And I love how simple and easy you make your tutorials. I'm buying Davinci Resolve bc of your tutorials and word ethics. Great work!!! So, inspiring!
It worked! It just worked!! I was so frustrated with using the qualifier! I was getting all this janky artifacts and flicker throughout the frame while using the qualifier, but your method fixed it!! Thanks a ton, bro!!!! You gained a new subscriber!
You just saved me hours of work. I have struggled so much with qualifiers. And the tip about turning down the key output is something I’ve been trying to figure out...namely how to turn down the harshness of a LUT or other correction node. Thanks!!
Thank you so much, Avery. I was doing a selection of a window and the correction that i apply to it was flicking/flashing, and your tip to smooth the saturation low and high solve it.
You are doing amazing tutorials by not only klicking through, but explaining how it technically works. This helps to understand instead of only commiting to memory. Great work! Keep on please.
Can't believe I've missed this video until now. I love that you do short tutorials and moreso that you don't cram too much into them. Hopefully we see more content soon!
wow! I'm new to Davinci Resolve (and color grading in general) but this was one of the most useful tutorials I've seen yet! You've just gotten yourself a new subscriber!!! Excellent, to the point, and very clear to understand...just what I need! Thanks so very much!
as always the samplefotage is super easy ... sometimes light change or skintone colors in the background or clothes, thats are the cases where tips and tricks needed
Instant sub from the first video I saw - love the concise, clear way you talk through the process. If I have one bit of feedback, it would be just to kill the music during the main instruction and just have it at the start or the end - or something more ambient. Please don't take this as a critique against all the hard work and effort you're clearly putting into your videos, just feedback! Your videos are exceptionally good and I'm excited to see more and go through your back catalogue! All the best from Vancouver BC!
I love that you desaturated the skin to 50%! Most "graders" today often overdo their grades and it often results an instagram/video look instead of the cinematic visual that most of us, are trying to achieve. Keep up the good work!
Your videos are probably the most useful grading videos I've come across! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, and looking forward to future installments!
You just opened my eyes! I always fiddled with the softness by myself, it is such a time consuming process and sometimes you still can't get rid of the noise. Will definitely try this in future gradings! And I know this video is quite old, but I had to say thank you for this! 😊👍
AMAZING!!!! i paid for a course from film simplified. It was a great course but I don't don't this was covered. I watched everything but I kept getting grain in my footage for skin tones. YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
Avery, I think you should get away from the HSL qualifier and try the RGB instead. I think you'll find it works just as well and you won't have to spend so much time on feathering out the noise. You'll obviously spend a little time feathering, but there's much less of a chance of finding that gross grain in your final export when you're done. The HSL might be slightly more "exact" but I tend to only use it when I'm really struggling to latch on to a color.
Great video! Nice explanation. HOWEVER, I did not see the difference between when you started and when you finished. It looks exactly the same. It would really help if you showed up before and after. Thank you so much for all your effort!
Ahhhhhhhh now I understand that why sometimes my color grading has some kind of pixelated colors. (Only using 8bit camera 😂). Thank you! Hope I can do this correctly
Really dig it, man! Very to the point but explained! You should release some node theory videos or maybe something basic that you grade and correct from the beginning. (Almost like a "Let's Play".)
I like your videos man. I'm a freelance colourist and online editor also and it's always good to see other artists' node methodology. You've given me some good ideas! Btw I notice you don't use the clean black / clean white features in most of your qualification videos. Is it the slight sharp edges it can sometimes produce? They have come in handy a lot for me. I kind of miss the way resolve 12 handled matte noise (single denoise matte slider) but v15 is bringing back a similar function. ;)
Thanks man, glad you like the videos! The matte refinement features work well in small doses, but they destroy the falloff from selected areas to non-selected areas. In most cases, I think a qualification that blends smoothly will hold up the best, even if it means trading a little precision. Just a preference thing though; the refinement tools can still be handy depending on the situation!
I'm working on a laptop, no mouse, only trackpad. If I zoom into 4k footage (to 100%) what key do I press and hold to move around my footage with the footage window? I think with a mouse it is middle button and in photoshop it is hold space bar. Does anyone know? Thank you!
Thanks for nice tips and tricks. By the way, am I the first one to say you sound very much like Andrew Kramer at videocopilot or maybe he might sound more like you? :)
I've got a footage where part of the video got more highlight and another part (person only) got a darker subject. To mask the subject between the two objects frame by frame takes a lot of time. Is there any better way to solve the problem?
i am getting blue patches on my skin that look like bruises after qualifying my skin, i reduced midtone detail and increased blur and also reduced the red in the skin. how would i get rid of these patches, it completely ruins my vid
Thanks Fabio! Check out my skin tone tutorial; I discuss the basic teal orange grade about halfway through. And yes! I work as a studio DP, editor, and colorist full time.
Avery Peck Woah looks awesome!!😊 Yeah I saw the video but I‘ve to rewatch it paying more attention..and thanks for the Stranger Thing color grading tutorial I’ve definitely appreciate it; that’s one of my favorite shows.
Enjoy this new quick tip, everyone!
Also Shoot and Grade: Stranger Things is right around the corner! Stay tuned!
I can't thank you enough for this!

The best thing I've learnt today. You earn yourself a new Subscriber and a fan bro. Big up
A bit of clean white & black plus a bit of denoise also really helps
Woah!!! Smoothing!! Who never would have thought!!
Avery Peck is the best!

The Andrew Kramer of color grading.Amazing tutorials, thanks a lot!
You just opened my eyes! I always fiddled with the softness by myself, it is such a time consuming process and sometimes you still can't get rid of the noise. Will definitely try this in future gradings! And I know this video is quite old, but I had to say thank you for this! 😊👍

These are the kind of videos you get when talent and intelligence come together.
Nicely done mate!
Excellent . That was a great video.
this is fantastic!!!Nice work. Nice and clear, easy to understand !!
Excellent. Found your channel a couple of days ago and subscribed after the first video. This is how a video or tutorial should be👍
Hey mate - loving these new tutorials. Keep the pace going, you're on a roll.
Avery, I think you should get away from the HSL qualifier and try the RGB instead. I think you'll find it works just as well and you won't have to spend so much time on feathering out the noise. Thank you so much for all your effort!
Great video man. Was looking for the perfect tutorial for the qualifier
Yes I needed this video. Great stuff !
how do you change the layout of Resolve? When I open up my qualifier - HSL you can't see the color wheels anymore and I also don't have a Key tab
Thanks, sometimes even if I use a flat profile when I apply lut or something the video looks oversaturated, any tips?
Advanced tutorials on this subject as well as advanced curves usage would be spectacular..
So good!!
Brilliant I'm new to resolve and videos like these are really useful.
This is GOLD! Thanks a bunch!
Ahhhhhhhh now I understand that why sometimes my color grading has some kind of pixelated colors. (Only using 8bit camera 😂).
Thank you! Hope I can do this correctly
Your videos are pure gold. Thank you very much!
Concise and informative, and your anti-youtuber approach is a breath of fresh air. Thanks for another helpful video!
Love your tutorials man, keep it up!
You’re really good at this! Thx! This is the level I’m looking for!
great video mate! could you do a video on color grading a non-log profile of a canon dslr footage? would love to watch it.
Perfect tutorial; great tip, easy to understand and clearly spoken! Got me to subscribe. :)
Dude, I love you. Not kidding.
this is great! , I wonder if a power window could be handy here?
Thank you! Definitely, if your talent is on a skin-colored background, a power window is usually a good tool to reach for.
amazing new thing l learn today thank you
I needed this
Really dig it, man! Very to the point but explained!
You should release some node theory videos or maybe something basic that you grade and correct from the beginning. (Almost like a "Let's Play".)
This guy is the Andrew Kramer (Video Copilot) of Color Grading!! Good Job Buddy!
These are the tutorials I’m looking for👊🏾👍🏾

Bro, you're pretty amazeballzzzzz. Thank you!!!
Awesome dude..love ya man
Wow, excellent tutorial. Could this be used to reduce banding in skies resulting from 8-bit 4:2:0 encoding?
Muito bom, fiquei impressionado com essa coloração.
Nice intelligent tutorial, especially by not starting with “Hey, what’s up”.
wHaTs Up YouTuBeRs!
Oh man, a big Amen to that 👍
OMG YES, and special thnx for not SCREAMING: "HEY, WHATS UP!!"
And not saying "guys" every third word!
very pro! liked the tutorial,
Can you advise where to download LOG footage to practice?
Thanks!
Game changer.
Can i qualify my eos 700 D footage? Does it have to be well exposed?
Thanks for the video. Your videos make much more sense to me than the others on UA-cam or elsewhere. Keep up the good work. May karma be with you. :)
Another great tutorial. Thanks so much.
This Helps me a lot. Thanks for Sri Lanka
Great again!!! Keep doing it!
One question. Do you think this qualification would work in nature with animals? I did try it with tree trunks and it did work.Thanks.
Thanks for nice tips and tricks. By the way, am I the first one to say you sound very much like Andrew Kramer at videocopilot or maybe he might sound more like you? :)
Great tutorial!
Goods tips! Will try this for sure.
Thank you, actual in 2024 too 🚀🚀🚀

Awesome bro
great video! one minor nitpick would be to kill the background music when doing a tutorial.
Niice. Thanks a lot!
Hey Avery, I'm getting this weird color pollution while working on the skin of a footage. Can you help? Thanks
Thanks !
i am getting blue patches on my skin that look like bruises after qualifying my skin, i reduced midtone detail and increased blur and also reduced the red in the skin. how would i get rid of these patches, it completely ruins my vid
This is exactly what I was after, thank you!
Great video ever thanks
Could you please make a tutorial on this gorgeous teal color correction? And do you do this as job? You're great btw :)
