- George Thomas Seaver was a franchise power pitcher who helped change the New York Mets from lovable losers into formidable foes. The quintessential professional, Tom Terrific won 311 games with a 2.86 ERA over 20 seasons and his 3,272 strikeouts set a National League record. Seaver fanned 3,640 batters in his career, including 200 or more 10 times and 19 in a single game once. No. 41 was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1967, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and made more Opening Day starts (16) than any pitcher in history.

I was a kid and I adored him. Yes, he was a phenom pitcher, but he was also handsome as hell. You will be missed, sir.
RIP TOM SEAVER. ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC PITCHERS IN BASEBALL.
Seaver had some of the best pitching mechanics ever.
Great push off, good stretch, back almost parallel to the ground, shoulder rotation, excellent follow through. He made it look easy.
Happy Birthday to Hall of Famer Tom Seaver! Seaver made more Opening Day starts (16) than any pitcher in history.
Best pitcher since the deadball era imo.
Seaver is kind of underrated today.. but I would rate him in the top 5 all time.
The greatest of all time
Would you believe the nolan ryan jock sniffers claim the old steer was a much better pitcher than Tom Terrific?
Let me know when you stop laughing.
@@sludge4125 all the time....it's embarrassing....how many cy young awards nolan Ryan won for being the greatest pitcher of all time....(zero) Ryan also lead the league in walks 8 times and wild pitches.....the dude is barely above the .500 mark for his career....nolan Ryan is overrated
Under-rated and one of the best ever.
Not underrated, einstein.
One of my 5 favorite players. Announcers now make a big deal if a pitcher has an ERA under say 3.50 for the season and pitched 175 innings. Seaver's CAREER ERA was 2.86. Modern pitchers couldn't carry his shoes. None of them. Not Verlander, Kershaw or Scherzer with their 70 complete games between the three of them. Seaver had 50 shutouts. I know the game has changed due to $$$ and the fear of your pitcher getting hurt from throwing too many pitches now or too many innings.
Watching TS at work was always a pleasure. His drop-and-drive delivery made it seem as though he wasn't working hard -- his motion seemed to POUR his pitches to the plate.
Not hardly. Looks can be ding-dong deceiving. But bottom line, Seaver dropped the iron door upon his opponents at the plate last night.
In 2 years he helped turn the Mets from last place saps to World Champs..
Tom terrific 2.86.... says enpugh.
