Great review! Thank you. Not many of us can afford to buy these time pieces, so your comparison review is appreciated.
Thanks for that mate - glad you found it helpful!
Love the selection. I have the Oris you have showcased. The Tag Heuer Aquaracer auto chrono is what I own which I love. I do not have an Omega Seamaster any more , sad to say. I wanted to throw a few others into the mix. Longines HydroConquest chronograph automatic is a good one. If you are looking for some lower priced watches then may I suggest a Baume Mercier Capeland S Chrono diver which you can find some really good deals on these. If you enjoy a extremely heavy watch then the Zelos hammerhead chronograph is a really good deep diver. These are a bit harder to find due to them being made in limited numbers.
A super nice watch that isn't really known but it most certainly should be is a Cimier Seven Seas Sextant which I prefer over all the watches you are showing and is one of my favorites. Breitling Superocean auto chrono. If you can find a Oceanaut Conquistador then you are also getting another one with the 7750 but at pretty reasonable prices.
I mainly collect dive watches. I spend so much time in the water. The 2 I actually dive with are not chronos however. I dive with either my Rolex Deep-Sea or Oris 1000m small second hand. I do really enjoy the Oris TT1 series. The Titanium watches are super nice to wear.
I wouldn't mind your Mont Blanc at all. Just saying...
I own a Omega Speedmaster moon watch. And like an idiot I sold my Omega Seamaster auto chrono. I do really miss that watch. I will get another some day.
Like I said I have many chronos some are also with the Dubois Depraz module like a Zodiac Calame I own. Personally not impressed with that watch. Some of my Daniel JeanRichard chronos also have the Dubois Depraz module but I like them.
The two watches I am looking for atm happens to be the Omega I mentioned and the other is a Rolex Daytona. Another dream watch is made by Zenith being the Defy El Primero which is an outstanding and very underrated watch. Probably one of the best in the world. Love these to death. But I am concerned with how tough they are? I would hate to barely knock a watch and it stop running. The Zenith is so precise that I an not sure how it will hold up over time.
I have not looked at the Sinn 356 or some of the IWC variants yet. But they have sparked some interest in my mind.
Great review. Even though I am late to the show here you have added another subscriber. Thank you for your time.
Excellent...thanks for this comparison. Agree that my Montblanc is the dressiest of the four. I think the standard automatic non-chronograph Seamaster is the sweetspot.
Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
Nice little comparison video. These are some tanks to fit that massive movement! Glad you pointed out about the TAG bracelet quality. They have made a lot of improvements over the past few years, but their bracelet quality is still sub-par in every price range they offer pieces.
Thanks chr1s60 - it does baffle me that TAG Heuer still pushes those bracelet clasps out... those surely don't do them any service, nor is it defensible...
Not quite correct. The Carrera Calibre 16 range has solid steel bracelets.
Yes, but still push pin and collars, which remains shockingly indefensible for the asking prices...
Very informative and complete review, good job👏👏👏
Thank you!
I have Tag formula 1 same model. I love that one. Nice video. Thank you
Thanks for that! Yeah it was a design that I found attractive among all their models at that time! :)
Love my breitling superocean heritage ii chrono.
Nice one
Great Video Just bought the Invicta Diver Reserve v. 7750 with Blue Dial and Gold. Thanks for sharing. Love them all.
Ah awesome... how much did that set you back?
Well to be Honest I loved the Breitling however way to much. Of all of them I like The Invicta Gold Plated the Best. It is easy to read, larger 47 mm and just looks amazing. The quality. Hey I have a few Rolex's I just can"t see all that dough for something so small. I bought the Invicta Blue Diver on e-bay mint condition. Shoot hard to tell it was worn. $325.0 Shipped, SHHH don't tell my wife or I am Dead Meat. My first Val, 7750. I own maybe 5 or 6 eta's.
Oh wow that's a good price I have to say! I think even the movement itself costs around that much to buy!
Great job! All the pertained information and nice camera work and audio...
You can really tell the difference when someone is a "real watch guy" vs someone who is just being a "watch snob"!
New sub here my friend.
God bless and take care...
Hey there, thanks for your encouraging and generous comment! I'm glad you liked it and found it useful! Cheers, Ivan.
I just bought a Revue Thommen Airspeed with a case thickness of 14 mm but it only has a waters resistance of 50 meters and a case diameter of 44 mm. It's a very nice classic design with a clean uncluttered look. I think that's about as thin as you're going to get with this movement.
Nice one - thanks for sharing!
Many thanks for the overview. Sadly I will not be able to afford any of these but content myself with the fact that each of my six analogue chronos are more accurate than your foursome !! :-)
Thanks Brian - I am curious to hear what are some of the chronographs that you own?
Ivan all are quartz, one a Bulova Precisionist, offers accuracy to 10 seconds a year while offering a 1//1000th second definition. I fully intend to add a Seagull mechanical column wheel chrono shortly ... probably by Alpha as they provide a sub-dial configuration my collection presently lacks.
BTW I am in the process of producing YT videos of my collection, and the philosophies behind it, and will be delighted to refer you, as one who has inspired me, to the channel when complete.
Thanks for the update and thoughts, and for considering me to be an source of inspiration! I look forward to seeing your videos once they're up and running, so please keep me in the loop! Cheers, Ivan.
Omega and tag heuer...i like it..
I like it too ;)
The Oris is the model Divers Titan Chronograph. (No Aquis) I wear this Chrono every Day. Perfect Diver!!!
Yes you’re correct - that one is actually not an Aquis
Bought a technomarine 505123 Automatic Chrono new with Valjoux 7750 and Sapphire dial window for $321.99(USD). Nice.
Very nice... if it is indeed an ETA in there, that'd be the cheapest I'm aware of!
@@PerthWAtch Thanks for the answer. Here is/was the link:

Unfortunately they just sold out. I was among the last few people to buy them. Despite setting me back on my credit card debt a little, it was a once in a lifetime chance at that price.
Those push in pins an absolute pain. Was so frustrated with a Carrera Caliber 16 ended up ruining the bracelet by removing with set of pliers.
Oh dear that is painful!
No complaints. Over 20 years of wear from Carrera. Replaced bezel surround as it was really beaten up. Now rocking a PAM0321.@@PerthWAtch
Same movements that’s in the breitling super avenger 2
If it’s got the 6-9-12 layout then it’s probably the same movement. Otherwise it may be different - Breitling are moving more in-house movements into their models.
Perth WAtch I read a review of the breitling super avenger and I believe I read it had the valjoux 7750 it's a great movement
Yeah definitely there are versions of the Avenger with the 7750 - it is a phenomenal achievement by ETA and for good reason it is the most used Swiss automatic chronograph movement of all time.
@@PerthWAtch Not so much achievement of ETA on this particularly since they just inherited 7750 when acquired Valjoux back in the day :)))
But agreed it is a great movement and ETA is doing a great job in general making really good movements. Their top grade-COSC movements are comparable with any big inhouse movements incl. Rolex, JLC....etc. Great job on the video BTW!
Love to see a strip down video of the salitita sw500 as there isn’t one on the net..
I own the Formula 1 Calibre 5 which is basically the same watch as the Calibre 16 without the chronograph. I much prefer the Calibre 5 as you can fully appreciate that sun ray anthracite dial whilst still getting the ceramic bezel and bracelet. Plus it's cheaper - WIN!
Actually there are a number of Formula 1 Calibre 5 models, but I assume you mean the WAZ2011? That one is slightly smaller at 43mm and would be thinner and lighter too, hence more versatile in a sense... and you're right it would certainly let that anthracite shine through more. However I was looking for a chronograph so was definitely not considering any Cal 5 models... not to mention the bezel numeral design and the 12+6 makes it look a little tacky IMO... hence I went for the CAZ2012 Cal 16 and definitely would never have gotten the CAU2011 model. Cheers, Ivan.
I guess automatic chronographs aren't in my future. I purchased one and took it back the next day. Couldn't take the constant shake/wobble of the watch. I felt like I was having a seizure every time I looked down at my wrist and saw it shaking.
Shaking? Do you mean the free spinning rotor? Coz that’s a feature of the 7750 for sure but not all auto chronographs by any means.
Oris offers best automatic chronographs under 1500 usd. Oris caliber 674(7750 based) is a good solid movement in my opinion.
Yeah they’re pretty good aren’t they? The Longines L688 with column wheel architecture can be had in a Hydroconquest for around the same price and is arguably even more desirable!
@@PerthWAtch After Seiko Ananta line, Longines has the best column wheel chronograph without doubt.
I like that montblanc :-)
I've had one for eight years. Unique watch. Should be able to get one for $1500 US used in mint condition. Mine still looks OK....the usually bracelet scuff marks etc.
Alex Sibley ...best looking of this group..by far..
...the others can all be mistaken for a seiko or a citizen....and if there was a submariner...most would now think its a fake..
the montblanc...is very distinct....
The nonsense we have to read!...
Valjoux 7750 based watches are just too darn thick.
Hi what's the difference between the salita sw500 and the eta val 7750
It's the same movement, just that Sellita used to be a subsidiary of ETA, commissioned to make movements. They are now making these independent of ETA. Some say quality is not quite as good.
What movements do more recent chronograph watches tend to use?
Hi there! Well the Valjoux 7750 is still the most popular use today. Other movements include Zenith el Primero, Omega 1861, and Seagull ST series, but the Valjoux remain the most prevalent.
The real Plato b
Omega planet ocean all the way, I have the new co axil 9300,in Orange, it is a big watch, amd it suits my wrist .
Nice! :)
Newb here, do the stamped clasps not function as well as a solid machined clasp? Thanks in advance.
Hi there! Stamped clasps are much cheaper to make and are not as resilient. Function wise they do fine enough but certainly are not as good as a solid clasp with push-button mechanism for release I would say. Cheers, Ivan.
None of these watches can compare to my 90's Lorenz all black dial Sub Professional diver chronograph l with the Lemania 5100. A lot less expensive and a thing of beauty although harder to find. If you're not obsessed with paying for a name hunt one down.
Yeah, the Valjoux movements are a reliavke workhorse but certainly nothing very special. That Lemania would be quite something - interesting piece you got there.
Among all four, which one looks to have the best workmanship/craftsmanship quality?
I would say the Omega. Thanks for the question and for watching!
That helps..thanks!
The Longines Hydroconquest Chronograph uses the same 7750 Calibre and only cost £1500. It also has a column wheel and double gears. These watches are over priced and should have in house movements.
The Oris and Tag can be found for around US$2000, which is slightly less than the quoted price of the Longines. The Omega is the most costly at around $3000. Some other viewers have commented about in-house movements, but last I checked the cheapest in-house Swiss automatic chronograph was around $4000, so that would be expecting something no one has ever done...
I have several watches that have the Valjoux 7750 or something based on it. None of them are as expensive as these watches. Hamilton for example offers a number of nice watches with this movement. I don't see how an Oris is worth twice as much. If I am paying 3-4k and I get an Omega with the co-axial movement I know what I am paying for. But paying that much for a run of the mill workhorse movement in a case without precious metals or any other distinct costly features? That just feels like a rip-off to me.
For the Oris I think it's mainly about the Titanium... the metal itself isn't expensive nor precious but it's considerably harder to work, so all else being equal you always have to pay more for a Titanium watch. Even if that wasn't a factor however you'll still pay more for Oris compared to some brands say Glycine... much of that is branding and marketing, as with the case for some other pieces here, and not to mention there are even more expensive watches using the 7750. As for precious metals, I'm not aware of any Swiss watch with that at $2k price range... but I may be wrong.
These watches were all produced and sold at nearly the height of the latest boom in the market (aka prior to the 2008 recession that trickled down to the luxury sector) before unsold inventory really started to bite brands in the ass. Since about 2015 the industry started to adjust, with price reductions coupled with introduction of in-house movements make these watches and price points seem particularly egregious.
The Omega and Montblanc are so much nicer than the Tag and Oris
That Oris is so ugly imo
Thanks for the comment Jack - fair enough
