If you’re a social media user in this day and age, you are aware of the wave of influencers it has come with. They seem to be living the dream 24/7. But in reality, is that really the case? As an influencer herself, Nyemba gives us some insight on the hard work that goes on behind the scenes and the mental health struggles the industry might trigger. Nyemba Tembo is a digital content creator and social media influencer with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of the West of England. As a social media personality, she has worked with renowned companies and brands such as Amazon and Fanta Apple; as well as local companies including Royal Zambian Airlines, Discover Zambia and Gigibonta. Negative comments are an indicator of unhappiness. Influencers broadcast images of wealth and perfection. Viewers react negatively to express frustration with idealised images in the media.
Harsh comments are a signal that people are suffering. Over three million youths in Zambia are unemployed. The realities of financial dependence and hunger conflict with media images of luxury. People express pain in critical comments.
I enjoyed Nyemba Tembo's TedTalk. I encourage Nyemba Tembo to pursue a professional career in broadcast journalism.

It's funny how people would tell how to live your life according to the way they feel is right. Amazing talk! I was engaged from start to finish. Beyond us being insensitive to public figures, we are also at times hard and unkind to ourselves trying to achieve those goals before 30, 40 or a given target. My biggest take at a personal level is "It's okay not to be okay". Spread some positivity to yourself and others.
