Hello Adam, Great Information on your video, the tables a good Idea i'll try that myself, I use a 12000 Watt generator to enable me to keep my batteries constantly charged. I'm just starting out using a microdrone 2.0+, I have 24 of the 3.7v 500mah 25 C batteries, so by the time I get to battery 24, my first set of batteries are charged and ready to go. I have the generator on a fire retardant mat when in a park and use the same mat in the boot with it open and battery being charged enclosed in a Turnigy fire retardant bag for safety.
I bot both a TBS on and little bigger DIY one of top of a suitable cabinet and a 250 quad I made a purposely built backpack with all the accessory needed, like goggles, transmitter, batteries extra props and so I could go everywhere I would like where a car or even a bike wont be able to get.
Well, my Mavic Mini is due soon, but I got myself a GPC case for the MM because seeing the soft case and the fact the the MM is my first drone, I wanted to be able to protect that investment. The added bonus was I can make the case my own by sticker bombing it!
I can see the reasoning behind what Adam is doing and why. It's also a good idea for anyone that flies RC to copy these ideas. I was flying RC 30 years ago and I'm getting back into it. How things have changed!
I think Adam is one of the great minds of our time. It's utterly fascinating to watch the solutions that he comes up with to everyday problems and that's why I love when Adam is on the show and the builds he does. He clearly thinks differently than anyone else on the planet. He kind of reminds me of my grandfather, he could solve any problem or build anything he put his mind to. His medium of choice was often wood because he had a wood-working shop (he was a carpenter by trade). He even made his own grandfather clock from scratch, it's 8 feet tall and he made all of the gears and the mechanism from wood, it's truly a work of art. It took him several months to get the gears all fitting properly and the timing down perfect, but it kept perfect time. He's since passed away, but the clock is still in the living room at my grandmother's house. I think my grandfather would have loved this channel too and that's about the highest praise I could give a youtube channel. :)
+Scott R cool story but adam has no sus tainable ideas just a nerd with money I have a fuel to replace coal and need money for electric conversions for cars trucks loaders excavators and ships ,, yes I can take oil away adam has a kids mind i did these things as a child but found that men solve problems without causing further damage to the worlds soil water and air , , ,like vid games and tv what a waste of your life at least this copter will get kids out side for a hour off their fat ass and nasty couch culture oh well i started in wood then plastic then metal /stone luv to see the clock must be hard wood for the gears to stand up?
+Scott R let me be honest. kind, and honest comments on youtube are a rarity. Its great to see positive members of the tested community. We are lucky Adam, and all the members of the team, do this great service to the world. Adam is truly the most interesting man in the world, and we get to see into his mind.
+D. Saelens I look forward to seeing your advancements mate, have to say I'm not convinced until I see anything. Actually doing something with your ideas is what I always find the hardest. So you don't really have a leg to stand on until you have proven yourself "better". And remember, life isn't a zero sum game.
I can imagine going to visit Adam for an hour and after what feels like an hour realise you've been there for a whole day with him showing you different stuff.

@mandelorean6243 So you're telling me that he is like literally every other human and has moments where he is irritable? If I decided I don't like him for that reason then I could never be friends with my actual friends.
Had a chance to provide the camera boat with Myth Busters in Monterey some years ago. Adam's preparation and attention to even the smallest detail was most impressive at that time. Easy to understand he takes this same focus on safety and preparation to his personal recreation.
Mr Savage, may I say this only once! Dude, keep that passion flowing, it's is awesome to see someone think of the small little details that the million dollar think tanks developing the products never though of! keep t rockin!! Thanks
OMGosh... Savage IS a savage engineer! Oh, how I miss MB's! The battery shaped case has me jumping out of my seat. To echo your statement... "DJI, are you listening?" Adam, please keep giving the fans what they want... More of you, more of your brain, more of your brilliant ideas and observations. You have more that milliseconds of genius.
My son in a drone addict and he has discovered many of the same things you're discussing ... but you have much more access to design and build your own solutions! LOVE it :-)

***** I do not like to call them drones myself. I think the media has everyone assuming all drones are bad. Our drones are not the one to worry about. Most of us are just having fun. Although there will always be somebody to try some crazy stuff with them and cause trouble. It would be nice to get the general population to use another term for them as far as hobbyists go. Although I do not see that happening anytime soon.
I have quite a few drones. The bigger ones have their own case. There are several nice cases you can get on Amazon that you can customize to fit your needs. Each case I have had room for several extra batteries charging cables, extra props and extra parts that commonly break. This way if something happens I don't have to quit, I can just fix it on the fly, no pun intended, lol. Things just sometimes happen when flying helicopters more than when flying my drones. I got into drone flying by accident and out of a need. I wanted to use the drone to video the roof of my house so I would be able to quickly check it and know how many shingles needed to be replaced. We live in an area that has a windy season so to speak. So every year I have to replace several shingles and the drones help me do this. I now have close to 20 drones and helicopters combined. It's great fun! Thanks for coming up with this show Adam, it's definitely right up my alley and great fun to watch. I loved the lantern episode!!!
OK.... i really enjoyed just listening to Adam's ideas you wouldn't believe how interesting it actually is to listen to all of this, so i would kinda like to hear him more often.
Not that I'm commenting to receive one of those preflight checklist, in fact I wouldn't have a use for them, but Im just curious how much wear that pool table receives. I mean it seems pristine, but I've seen enough videos of that table supporting boxes and other potentially damaging things. So how often is it re-felted? How often is it even used as a pool table anyways?
I've always thought that, they are always putting things together and moving stuff about on the pool table, not to mention it's right next to the shop. But it always looks brand new.
Babalooza Depends on the Use. I worked in a pool hall and about once a year to two years we would re felt, however we held quit a bit of tournaments so we needed good felt. Many bars simply keep felt on until it is worn completely thru, so years. I suspected if you were to felt a table like this for UAV use, it would last a lifetime.
I really enjoyed how he pointed out the fact that the company used a cheap hinge on their box. Imagine all the businesses he could help Improve..this guy is an amazing tinkerer and has quite a bit of knowledge and know-how.
I'm a newbie! This was amazing. I can't tell you how much I appreciate detail you provide. It just saves someone like me to get up to speed and to the point where you can enjoy the devise and use it as a tool vs. refining the tool
Good point. He's a lame presenter shill. Real men roll their own with Arduino boards and tweak their gyro code themselves in C. Building a POS tray table with felt and some red circles painted on it? SMH.
i just expected a little more from one of the mythbusters guys. but now that you say it, im getting my model heli up and running again and coding my own gyro would be pretty fun. im not making my own board though. ill just stick with the mini arduino
That's what happens when you worked in practical effects and toy design, you can look at something and instantly know either how it works, or how to make it better.
I‘d love to have one checklist. But it’s less about it’s use but more about having something made by my all time heroes. You guys made my childhood and still inspire me today! Sign that checklist before sending it!
I don't get how Adam says that he's not interested in drones in and of themselves...especially for a guy so into Sci fi and movie magic. Flying a racing quad with fpv is the closest thing any human can get to piloting an X-Wing through the Death Star trenches. The design and engineering that goes into multirotors "in and of themselves" is incredible! All the practical stuff they can do is just delicious gravy on top
Where could I get a UAS pre-flight checklist like that @ 4:50, at? It would help me cover every aspect of my UAS's functions and reliability before every flight. Cheers, keep calm and fly safe!
Adam does what he loves, he is building and inventing, i must say i like enjoy watching him, his collection is awesome ! Adam, i dont know if you read this but the world will be a bit boring without you so please keep on doing with what you do :-/)
gagomand But magnets in the table top would work fine -- outside of potentially screwing up the pre-flight calibration. That said, I suspect the calibration process could compensate for magnets if they were on the aircraft. After all, modern aircraft are loaded with all manner of electrical devices that generate their own EM fields -- and these have no impact on the proper operation of on-board compasses.
its really no different than the magnetic field in the motors. plus its far away from the senors in the center. i really don't thing it would mess with the quad at all.
Not too mention if you fly too close to a ferrous surface the drone might stick mid flight. Best to put the magnets on the board and a ferrous material on the feet....OR programme the GPS/camera to lock onto the red target and autopilot land automatically.
gagomand Interesting academic discussion, but I think Adam was being a bit facetious about magnets to aid landing on the little platform. Makes little sense to invite potential calamity by trying to land on a small raised platform when you can just as easily land on a wide open space just a few feet in front of that. In my full-scale flying days, my first flight instructor offered this bit of wisdom: "An exceptional pilot is one who uses exceptional judgement to avoid situations that require the use of exceptional skills." I think this is one of those cases. That said, if you want to avoid magnets, use velcro! ;)
All this preparation doesn't work for people like Casey Neistat. His fans know exactly what I'm talking about. He gives absolutely no craps about weather or people
indeed...or the "rules" or "guidelines" for drones. Dont get me wrong..I've been a fan of his for over 3 years..and fly my own Phantom..(before) he got his own...I love his stuff..but one of these days its going to bite him in the ass!
The point of this video is thinking through the flow and preparation and responsibility of flying a drone. As opposed to being a reckless entitled idiot who loses his drone after a week and begs the company for another one simply because of his social status.
As an aircraft mechanic, I got a kick out of the fact that you made your own Preflight checklist. We have our own checklists for Preflights, Postflights, Last flight of the week, etc.
9:20 I loved the moment that he realized how awesome putting magnets on the landing gear would be! HAHA I must say that Pre-Flight checklist is a Great idea, I will have to make one for my drone!
Adam, the infinite spinning gears.... He can't be stopped! I love it. If your ever in the Boston area and find yourself in need of an extra set of hands, let me know.
Am i the only one who watched this, and the moment he started putting the eye-piece rig onto his shoulder immediately thought "That's like the targeting computer from Star Wars Episode 4!!!!!"??
5 year device ? I don't think so. A couple of years down the line there will be a replacement with better control, the ability to sense and avoid objects, a better camera and mount and who knows what. It is, after all, called the Inspire 1, so look out for 2, 3, 4 etc
Tom Miller does a new version coming out make the old version break or something? The device is designed to last 5 years. Physically. They could invent a fusion powered sci-fi hovercopter tommorrow, doesn't affect how long that device is going to last...
ANameThatIsn'tMyOwn a new version does not make the old version break or work any worse but people will keep wanting the new ones. Adam, along with many more will want the latest and greatest and the early versions will be retired.
My phantom 3 Advanced keeps a flight log in the DJI flight app which I love. It allows me to view exactly what my flight pattern was, altitude, stick maneuvers, and when I press the camera button. It uses goggle maps and just shows a triangle and follows a white line of the path I flew and shows all the data. I also got the soft back pack made by DJI which allows me to hike and it is just like using a regular hiking pack and holds everything and all my accessories and is very comfortable. If I could afford a Inspire I would get one. Being able to see the world from a different view point is amazing. Even if I am not taking pictures or video its just fun to watch the screen and know I am seeing stuff I have never see before.
John Kuchera How about something a bit more old school? I'm thinking he could attach a bit of ferrous metal to the 4 feet then attach 4 electromagnets under the table. These could be energized remotely when he's ready to touch down. If you wanted to go more high tech, add a pin hole camera to the center then overlay the signal with a frame outline for a landing assist camera.
*The DJI Inspire is to quadcopter drones what alienware is to high end PC's.* Its what people who know nothing about technology buy because they assume it is the best because its so expensive and because they don't want to put the effort into learning how things really work. Just like alienware, its two to three times as expensive as it should be, and you could get much, much higher quality and performance for the same amount of money. I'm really disappointed that Adam didn't build his own design, there are tens of very high end kits out there that would allow modification, personalization, and actually knowing what you're putting into the air, or at the very least that he wouldn't buy the absolute worst cash grab mindless stuff you can get your hands on. The title is misleading as well, this is as stock as you can get.
Tian Xia get a SMALL 4x to Learn How to Fly. Blade is good. then move up to a 350 size... like the 350 QX3 with camera, and yet again Learn to Fly First.... there will always be a new 4x copter out each year that is better than the last. Learn to fly and the camera will come.
+felixthemaster1 the principal point of real quadcopters are not be fun, but yes give a different way to see and show the world to us! But yes, if you mightiest know how to fly it you would like it and have fun with it
Adam Savage is really one extremely intelligent man. He seems so full of life and genuinely happy to be doing what it is he is doing at the time. We should all be so lucky that we can enjoy our day to day lives as much as he seems to. Granted he has the means to enjoy himself but I would say he's definitely earned it! I was sorry to hear Mythbusters was ending. I watch that show all the time. Mainly because of Adam. Jaime was OK but Adam as I had mentioned before was always so animated and excited about the things they were doing.
If everybody flew like this, then the FAA would not have to enforce the existing laws and write new laws for model aircraft flying. Most people don't realize that there were FARs in place for model aircraft for many years, but it was never an issue. Then the drones became readily available, and easy to fly, so every idiot and there mothers dog bought one and started causing massive issues so the FAA had to take action and make things difficult for the rest of us. so, thanks Adam for being a good example, unfortunately, the idiots who caused all the problems in the first place don't care, and will continue being idiots. And the FAA will write more and more rules and regulations for the rest of us to follow.
I loved this video! So cool to see Adam after mythbusters and his hobbies. I will starting a log of how/when/where I flied my drone! So awesome to watch.
I love adam savage. the way he talks about his equipment he is so like me when it comes to building and creating things. if you havent grown up by the time your 30 you dont have to.
I would love, make that DOUBLE LOVE to know and live next door to Adam, I have never seen anyone with more skills at manufacturing aftermarket goodies and so much knowledge of making useful items to make flying just a bit more comfortable .... BIG thank you to you for doing this awesome interview 👍🏻👍🏻
What the hell? So this guy loves building things, he loves making special effects and robotics right? Then why does he buy an overpriced prebuilt drone?
StopaskingformynameUA-cam overpriced isn't even close to how pathetic this thing costs. my 250's could to anything and everything this can do and more. I could strap a bad ass camera on my quad. no issues
Keep dreaming. The Inspire drone is A LOT better then any cheap drone you can get. Drones do not actually get decent until 400+ dollars, idiot. You know nothing about drones obviously. You do not see professionals using crappy drones such as yours that do not lost more then a few months. And your drone could not eve LIFT the camera on a Inspire. The Inspire is definitely worth the cash.
Are you talking to me ElderScrolls Addict? If so you are wildly mistaken. I build drones and i have been doing for several years. Yes, drones that lift shit costs more, but not effin DJI inspire2 prices. You can build something similar or better for 25% of the price.
SO many great ideas in 18 mins! Love the charger set up. Flight log books are cool also. As a new Phantom 3 Advanced user, I will have to make something to use to log my flights as well. Great video...Thanks Adam!
GPC is a local company to me. I went to their shop one day about 3 or 4 years ago to pick up a gopro case. While there I told them about these new quadcopters and how none of us had cases for them and they should look into making them. They said there were just to many different types and they really weren't interested . Well look at them now -__-
I would love one of your preflight checklists Adam. I have a DJI Spark but everything you cover is absolutely genius. Take care and have a great weekend.
Only discovered tested was a thing a few weeks ago but I love this show soooo much 😍 I want to live in Adams warehouse, sooo much beautiful organisation 🙌
There's a book called "The Checklist Manifesto" that's quite good. It basically shows how powerful checklists can be for high-risk operations -- It's neat that Adam uses one for drone flying.
Go to a Telescope store and you can get a nice plastic padded case for your filters. Astronomers such as myself have quite a few filters we use so the cases are readily available. Just a heads up... from 1.25" to 2" square.
What is not to love about this channel? Great videos from stuff I like to hack/ improve/ disassemble etc. And off course, the inspiring Adam Savage! Subbed! Thanks guys!
The antenna are in the feet. They may be effected by magnets, something you may want to consider testing if you mod the feet. Love tested, thanks for the great vids.
You Sir put new meaning to the term "Rocket Scientist"!! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts especially in such a way as even a nimrod such as myself can understand what you are saying!
Adam you are amazing and one of my personal Hero's I wish I had the time and space to build like you do. I almost wish the was some sort of builders co-op in every city where people like us could play when we don't have the personal space for it, but I could also see the downside to having that many people piling there junk in one space lol. thank you for everything you do. Thank you for inspiring me.
Great to see one, of many I assume, user to utilize this technology for camera platform purposes. A very nice video and the workflow aspect of it is not the least of it.
Anyone here with a quadcopter? How do you store your gear?
I SO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW OF THE UPDATE ON YOUR VIEWFINDER / EYEPIECE? Please, tell me you did move on this! I too only want to fly to GET THE SHOT!

so true

I watched this video fore the sole reason that you didn't call it a drone. Thank you, so much,

***** no, not sarcasm.
technically it is (also) a drone...so why don't call it that?!
Attila theHun because 'drone' is a media hyped buzzword. It's a quadcopter with a camera. A toy.
Just because a word is "media hyped" it doesn't lose its (technically correct) definition.
That view finder is fucking amazing!

Good point. He's a lame presenter shill. Real men roll their own with Arduino boards and tweak their gyro code themselves in C. Building a POS tray table with felt and some red circles painted on it? SMH.
i just expected a little more from one of the mythbusters guys. but now that you say it, im getting my model heli up and running again and coding my own gyro would be pretty fun. im not making my own board though. ill just stick with the mini arduino
yeah i came here to see a custom quad. nope.
That's because he and Jamie were each given a quadcopter after being part of some of their promotional stuff.
mini arduino has a gyro on it? i want to programm a flightcontroller / autopilot with my arduino. do you think an arduino nano can handle that?
Adam has a surprising amount of skills, not just blowing up cement trucks. haha
I heard a myth that someone can build a quad-copter out of a cement truck, filled with cement. I wonder if Adam can prove that.
I love it when Adam gets passionate and enthusiastic about a subject. It's so inspiring :)
I love Adam's mods.
I want this as well!
Adam does what he loves, he is building and inventing, i must say i like enjoy watching him, his collection is awesome ! Adam, i dont know if you read this but the world will be a bit boring without you so please keep on doing with what you do :-/)
Seeing all of the different components and bits fit so perfectly in to the GCP case was so satisfying for my OCD.
you can fit about 12 Mavics in that big ass case.
If you put magnets on the feet you are gonna screw up your compas
gagomand But magnets in the table top would work fine -- outside of potentially screwing up the pre-flight calibration.
If you put magnets on the landing gear strong enough to help you land they will interfear with the compass.

He lost over 10 drones
As an aircraft mechanic, I got a kick out of the fact that you made your own Preflight checklist. We have our own checklists for Preflights, Postflights, Last flight of the week, etc.
9:20 I loved the moment that he realized how awesome putting magnets on the landing gear would be! HAHA
I must say that Pre-Flight checklist is a Great idea, I will have to make one for my drone!
Tested is there a whole channel of Adam Savage Drone videos, We would subscribe to that! Adam rocks
+Epic Drone Videos I look at your name and cringe.
NELICOPTER (was da) Why is that?
Is it the "Epic"
The "Drone"
Or the "Videos"
or a combo of all three?
+Epic Drone Videos
Drone and partially epic.
NELICOPTER (was da)
Oh, okay.
+Epic Drone Videos It should be Epic Quad/Tricopter Videos

Am I the only one who thought "use the force Adam" when he busted out that eye piece?
Being only for one eye I was thinking more like "It's over 9000!". :P
You've switched off your targeting computer...
Tzontlimixtli Have you seen A New Hope? This piece looks a lot more like the one in Star Wars, then the Google Glass that Vegeta wears.
The amount of detail and thoughts that he puts into the smallest things is is outstanding, amazing and oddly satisfying!
"use the force adam...use the force"
Leaving a comment, though I'll probably just print one out. Would be nice to have them signed by yall's crew...
YES That would be amazing! I would love one signed by the crew as well!!!
+1 on that a signed one would be magnificent!!!
2dividedby3 Indeed - especially living so far away that I'll never meet them in person :)
Allied Operators Usually the comment section they are referring to is the one on Tested.com, not here on UA-cam
5 year device ?
I don't think so. A couple of years down the line there will be a replacement with better control, the ability to sense and avoid objects, a better camera and mount and who knows what.
It is, after all, called the Inspire 1, so look out for 2, 3, 4 etc
I think he meant that it is solid enough that it could last five years, shabby and last only one
Tom Miller You're an idiot.
The Inspire quad is a outstanding camera platform and a joy to own and fly. Great info guys, and keep up the great demos.
See you all in the air.
Those magnets might mess with the compass, if you plan to put those on to assist landing on that table
So true, do you see these people actually falling for this.... even flighttest wtf.
Adrien Perié I've been trying to get into quadcopters but there is so much information out there I don't know where to start. Can you point the way?
Tian Xia Quads get boring fast, go helis. They are superior.
Tian Xia get a SMALL 4x to Learn How to Fly.
Blade is good. then move up to a 350 size... like the 350 QX3
with camera, and yet again Learn to Fly First....
there will always be a new 4x copter out each year that is better than the last.
Learn to fly and the camera will come.
+felixthemaster1 the principal point of real quadcopters are not be fun, but yes give a different way to see and show the world to us! But yes, if you mightiest know how to fly it you would like it and have fun with it
I could really use that checklist...
You could really use a clue.
Adam Savage is a living genius! He is so smart and full of knowledge. Thank you
2 or 3 times a week? I would fly that 2 times a day if I had one
I doubt he has the time to use it that much.
would have painted prop locks white
+Slavik Cher or red
+Slavik Cher right go s with the I1 right
If everybody flew like this, then the FAA would not have to enforce the existing laws and write new laws for model aircraft flying.
I admire Adam's skill and ingenuity. Brilliant guy.
Adam + Elon = WORLD DOMINATION
Wouldn't the magnets mess with the drones compass?
Its official, Adam has OCD
OCD = Operation of Cool Devices!
BIG thank you to you for doing this awesome interview 👍🏻👍🏻
target called they want there logo back ;)
Their*
Your mother called she wants her 9 months back
+Iamsasquatch 😂😂
StopaskingformynameUA-cam Not better, but maybe similar.
StopaskingformynameUA-cam And I thought you had meant that you BUY cheap drones. Those 200 dollar drones vs a inspire is no contest.
It's fun when you have money huh
TheMidnightNarwhal fun isn't always with money.
TheMidnightNarwhal says the guy with the BMW (M)money series picture...
Yes.
He can't stop smiling, indication of the delight to be had with drones
this is perhaps the best DJI video i have seen so far
awesome Adam!
Who left the toilet seat up?
got ridiculous in the end. over engineer
Adam savage is officially my favorite person in the world now .
Adam you are a pure genius, this is why we love you.
Excellent! I really appreciate Adam's creativity and thoughtfulness.
Well look at them now -__-
Damn I found your in the comments of a 5 year old video in 2020 UA-cam does give me some wired recommendations now and days
I am Adam Savage of Borg. Resistance is futile. Your life as it has been is over. From this time forward, you will service us.
Very nice!
3:33 that little happy face getting air for two seconds is too cute.
I would love one of your preflight checklists Adam. I have a DJI Spark but everything you cover is absolutely genius. Take care and have a great weekend.
I love this guy! He's like a kid showing off his brand new mother off all Christmas presents :D
Only discovered tested was a thing a few weeks ago but I love this show soooo much 😍
I want to live in Adams warehouse, sooo much beautiful organisation 🙌
I love how Adam did all this and he is a very disciplined pilot
Very nice Quad Adam and the Cam-holder at the End Like it.! Greetings from Switzerland Tom
He's like a real Doc Brown. Love to see him so excited.
I'm so happy I found this channel. I love how sincere he is :D.
God he's a genius, DJI should hire this guy.
Adam Is So GREAT! It just awesome that he has solutions for everything... The best solution is defiantly that eye-piece. SO AWESOME!!!
Great to see one, of many I assume, user to utilize this technology for camera platform purposes. A very nice video and the workflow aspect of it is not the least of it.
