  • With a few longer events coming up which are mainly gravel based, it was time to sort out the rubber on my Honda Wave 125i. While I've ridden whole weekend adventures on road tyres before, it's a little too sketchy to make a habit of it.
Last time I rode on gravel with road tyres: • 550km; 3 Days | A Smal...
The road tyres in this video are Shinko SR898's. Front: 70/90-17; Rear: 90/80-17.
The off road tyres in this video are a Shinko SR241: 275x17; and a 'Parwin Tyre' 275x17. (Will end up swapping this for a 250x17 SR241 eventually).

So nice to have access to a tire machine! Makes the job much faster and tend to cuss less. lol. And a big difference in traction on the gravel.

Makes a huge difference! I still do my fair share of manual changing though, Will try cover it in a future video.

Absolutely! You won't regret it. Some brands are fairly good on tarmac too so it's the best of both worlds.

Shinko is killing it these days. Making great and inexpensive dirt and off-road tires. And wow, tire machines are awesome. I've wrestled so much with tires and levers.

    Great work.
I personally find that a taller sidewall makes a big difference.
Since quite a while I've been running IRC-NR1 17-3.00 tyres front and rear of my Wave 125i.
The best tyres I've ever used. I can keep with up guys pushing Ducati Monsters in the twisties and fly around on Gravel.
They even fell more confident that the Vee Rubber Knobbies I tried previously (which were sh1t on tarmac).
I did need to modify the front fender a bit as it rubbed a tad in front and cut a whole in the rear part of the fender (super glue and inner tube fixed that :)).
Gotta post on the facebook groups about that mod.
    Keep it up :)

Pro DIY tyre change tip: many people use detergent as lube - which works great. However, normal dish detergent often contains salts which promote rust (thus are not ideal to leave inside your rims for ages). So use car wash detergent instead (as they generally should not contain such salts). I often carry an old pill container with some in it when I'm going longer range; lube really does make tyres 100 times easier to do, especially on the side of the road.

Awesome tip! Cheers Mark. I'm not always using tyre machines, but this one was right there in front of me so it would have been rude not too. Will get more in depth with Small Bike tyres in a future video.

      Just use wd40

    • @baxdesign
      @baxdesign 3 роки тому

@@alanhampton1030 I find thin lubricants like WD40 and CRC are pretty much hopeless for tyres as they just soak in and what stays on the exterior doesn't lubricate anything like as well as detergent/car-wash.

Hello and greetings from greece. I am a new and very excited member.
I was watching this video and i am strongly thinking of buying these shinko tyres for my Honda innova.
