- In this video I will start and finish the rebuild of this theft recovery 2017 GMC Sierra Denali. It is a clear title, Texas truck that appeared to be a simple build. Things are not always as they appear. I found some expensive parts to replace.

"Because engineers hate mechanics." ... I don't think truer words have ever been spoken.
I think engineers actually believe their designs will never fail, so why would you ever need to fix anything?
@@kv2280 That's German engineers. The parts department believe the same thing, so they don't keep anything beyond basic service items.
The shadow gnome’s shop teacher told him, “an engineer will climb over a pile of virgins to F$&k a mechanic”. I told him to listen to that guy, he’s giving the life lessons, not the book nonsense that never works in the real world!
As I sit in my suburban watching your video, my dangling headliner tickles my forehead...priceless.
The purpose of this channel is not for teaching stuff or making any money. It's simply just to piss off safety experts, clean freaks, and other kinds of experts! Job well done sir!
I've got one of those German steel anti-theft systems, it's
the .45 model, by H&K. Super reliable, it even has a cool green laser,
to see where you're going, day or night. The only drawbacks of it are
it's really loud, and makes quite a mess when used properly.
Did I mention I detest car thieves? They should get the same treatment horse
thieves used to get. A tall tree & a short rope.
I really love watching your videos. I’m learning a lot how to fix trucks I can’t afford to buy a truck so I’m thinking I might buy a truck that’s been damaged and trying to repair it myself watching your videos. I need a truck really bad and I just can’t afford to pay what everyone’s paying for trucks these days. I’m raising a bunch of kids and I didn’t know I needed to be a millionaire to buy a truck.
I would buy this truck in a heartbeat. Showing skills as a locksmith, clearly showing that you are a jack of all trades. Congrats and no tears of hate from his fan.
'It's me! I finally get to be that somebody!!' -greatest line ever!😁
Rotten pumpkin option is always super helpful on snowy nights
Scott, you have all the right equipment to make the strut change as easy as possible. Great work as always.
It's always good to see a rust free vehicle go through your processes. You are sure lucky that Scott's Terrain Emporium had the GPS cable in stock and at a bargain price too. Looking forward to the next rebuild.
saved yourself a ton of dough with the trans fluid changes. experience is a money saver
I recently found your channel. I especially enjoy your presentations of repair and putting trucks back on the road with your voice over which is much better than trying to speak whilst repairing a truck. Excellent humor and commentary. Also like that fact you share the costs with your viewers.
Love your video, unlike others good amount of talking about process while working.
No shortage of new builds. You sure turn them over fast.
Nope, any you only get to see the ones I don’t have pre-sold which is less than 20% of my rebuilds.
I've learned a lot of cool things through the web but your skills in repairing those locks was really impressive
Love the attention to detail! Great job I enjoy the videos thank you!
Thanks for sharing what you do. Always a pleasure!
Thank God its Friday,
And a late upload just means you're messing with us!!
This one took two weeks to edit and I have a lot going on.
Really nice video, Scott! Really appreciate your time taken and dedication to repositioning the camera to give us clear shots of what you're working on!
SCOTT, I like to do complete trans fluid changes by disconnecting the cooler line at the rad/ trans cooler that's feeding the cooler. Then connect a piece of hose to it going to a 5 gal bucket. Then, start the motor, let the fluid flow into the bucket until it sputters, turn off the motor, then add that many quarts to the trans. And repeat until the fluid is new looking. About 10 - 12 quarts. This does the entire trans INCLUDING the TC. NO pressure flush!
fixing the locks for the truck was an education for me. Thanks Scott.
Another nice video Scott. Thanks for sharing.
you do really nice work there is a lot to being a mechanic and you show how its done never thought of how many things you guys go into to get things up and running love your work
You are a man of many talents Scott.
Really look forward to watching you work and listening to your acerbic wit!
Have a fine weekend mate.
On Cadillacs with the 8 speed shudder, a flush with Mobil one LV HP fluid usually fixes the shudder. Seems the OE fluid is Hydrophilic like brake fluid. The Blue label M1 HPLV isn’t or isn’t as much. Yes I’m comment before watching the whole vid.
This one was so bad, I didn’t think a fluid change would fix it.
An hour long episode? What good we have done to earn this?
And here I thought I was torturing you. 😂
@@vehcor Well, we do have a FF button.
He was enjoying trolling the haters!
I love everything about your videos, but I’d have to say the unloading sequence is always my fave. Keep up the awesome work Scott!
This guy well trusted 👏.. take pride in his work 👏
Thanks for the Videos. I initially started watching for the repairs, now I watch for the repairs and the chirping of the "Internet Experts"
It's great to watch the work of a professional who can do it all.
hug from Portugal
I was waiting for the screem! good job Scoot!!!
Great job as usual.thanks for sharing
Tech Tip No 1: For those awkward gaskets that always move just as you get it all lined up or won't stay in place upside down we used to use small cable ties through 4 holes to hold the gasket on to the pan or whatever, offer it up, get some bolts started, cut out the ties, bolt it up ..... sorted.
That was another nice Texas buy as it was all mostly mechanical issues and reasonably easily sorted.
Wasting zip ties like that??? You must think I am made of money! 😂
Back in NAM we used to use individual strands of copper wire to do the same thing.
@@vehcor Says the guy who parks cars over a drain so he can drop parts down it to keep the fishing gnomes gainfully employed!😏
But if the yellow ones are cheaper go for those. 👍
@@javarod anything is good if it works mate.
And respects for your service out there from a Brit vet. Especially today 👏
I never come come away from your videos without learning two or three new lessons. Scott should have at least 500 K subs by now. Great job vehcor.
Scott you and Eric o are the two most knowledgeable guys who I’d trust with any auto you repaired, attention to detail and going the extra mile for the customer, another great post scott, ps a real what’s in the console
btw..this is the first video i have seen of you...i liked it so much i went and found ur 2015 LTZ duramax rebuild...watched all from start to finish....u are the bestest...wow
Someone got themselves a very nice truck. Thanks for the video.
Good job Scott 🎉
I love the cabin filter hack!
You clean what needs cleaning and don’t waste time on what isn’t necessary for operation of the vehicle. Thanks John from Arizona
Loved the video, awesome job as usual.
Scott, I was googling "Scott's gm truck emporium" for a hot minute then realized you were joking lol.
If the search ever turns up anything, let me know so I can send them a bill for the advertising. 🤣
When the running boards are retracted you can tap the rear end of them with your foot and they will go directly to the bed side deployment
Yes I actually thought that was the only way, didnt know there was a way from inside the cab to have them move to the rear position as well.
This was one of the best episodes Scott. I had no idea the front shocks were so huge. I also had no idea the running boards would rotate so to speak to help the owner get items in or out of the box. When it came to the GPS, you are the detective of detectives. I assume GM doesn’t sell that coax cable behind the radio that was damaged? No words for the amount of work & money you saved your customer. See you in the next installment. Have a great weekend.
I believe that is Delphi or Delco Remy for the Cable
Wow! Gone are the days of the backyard mechanic. All those clips and snap things and inserts and plastic connections, I was lost in all of it. The bumper with a million parts, dang! I didnt recognize much so Im feeling very old right now. I guess thats why trucks cost a mortgage now too.
How many Haters do you have-that was a lot of tears? Keep on pissing off them off, good work by the way & look forward to the next Video 👍
I have all the haters. I must be doing something right! 😂
@@vehcor Bloody right mate & good luck 🤣
Another great video Scott 👍 👍 Thank you.
Your videos make my week! I love your properly sarcastic dialog and theme song as they are so appropriate! It took me years to find a mechanic that is somewhat like you after I stopped using the dealer.
Snarky
I get so excited I start masterbating on the spot.
Nice find, well-done troubleshooting/repairs and filming 👍🏽
Great video, love your editing, the quick flash through repetitive tasks, i.e. J nuts was almost as fun as the off the trailer scream. Keep it up please !!!!
Those edits take a while but they are my favorite parts.
Get it Scott. Nice flip. The struts are a bummer to have had to spend money on. Yet being theft recovery the gps makes sense along with key lock and ignition.
Keep up the awesome content
One of scariest parts of my job, the spring compressor to exchange struts during tuning sessions. Another good and fun video sir!
'Pinwheel of Death'.... Priceless!
You do awesome work. Like I said before you would make a great instructor.
Great video. Thank you.
Great presentation, thoroughly enjoyable watch, hi from New Zealand
Fantastic!! Love your Sierra builds. Quality work and content!
Thanks
Really enjoyed this. Sometimes I'm not sure if you're expertise is spectacular and your humor is just the bonus, or the other way around. I just knew that GPS antenna was going to suck. Even jerks who steal trucks don't want to mess with the headliner. Bastards. Love the truck, except for that transmission. I hope the work you did pays dividends for many miles, but I also hope the fellow who bought it saves for a rainy day.
Scott's GM emporium is killin it these days
I was surprised to see how much hidden damage , things you would never think of. Whoever got the truck I know they're getting a good vehicle because you are very meticulous person. And go the extra yard like all that undercoating. As usual great job God bless brother
Some love cavity wax, others like cleaning. It's all in the game. More than an hour Vehcor on Friday, it doesn't get any better...
Keep up the great work!
Great job and well done
Finally, something new that's NOT a Tennessee go-faster. Slick. I do like the rubber tire safety wall around your "pin-wheel of death".
Great build ! Someone is getting a nice truck !
Yeah....Love the GMC rebuilds (I think you've done a couple) Ha! Hopefully smiley will help with the build as well to inure it's done correctly! Best quality builds on the Tube....Keep up the Great work!!!!
Looking great
That is a beautiful truck!
I have a 2018 Sierra Denali that I bought from the auction with the 8 speed - the shudder was fixed in mine with a fluid flush. There is a bulletin out on that from GM. Also there is a button on the back of the running boards to tap with your foot that will extend the running boards to the rear. It appears that those long bolts for the front struts are the ones you get with a leveling kit. I'll bet someone put those defective struts on there and took the leveling kit blocks. Nice truck, I really enjoy driving mine and it cost me about half of what one with a clean title would cost. You are the king of GMC truck repair!
I had the exact same trans issue with mine. Dealer flushed as per the TSB and it resolved the problem.
Outstanding!!! I have a Friday off and I get a truck video!!!!
Hope all is well Scott.
And Massachusetts is free glass
Looks awesome
Great build
This is my dream truck! Don’t get me wrong I love the updated interior off a 2023 yet the body style off them 19-22 aren’t too bad but something about this 16-18 Denali’s.. never financed a truck but cash. They crazy high right now. Hopefully they go down soon.
Awesome video by my friend Scott
Great video this week.
That’s a nice truck!
I have this exact truck (except mine's the long bed). Mine has a 10-speed transmission (maybe this one too?). You're not kidding about the amount of shifting it does! I had to replace one of the running board motors because the bushing in the rear was seized. Nice to see the boards on this truck operating so smoothly. I hear they're very hard to come by on getting replacements.
new owner gonna get a great truck. beauty
I like your long videos like this one where there's lots of little things :-)
New York. I was stationed in NY and they have mandatory zero deductible glass coverage for insurance. I had another state, switched over, my insurance went way down and I got new side glass, and a windshield for free. Was very nice, about the only good thing about NY state.
I remember when you take off a bumper wasn't so much work but now it got so many nut & bolt and screw it take couple hours just take it apart. I did look at your website after you to see how much sold it for good price 👍
great work mr.scott makes me want to tackle my oem sachs struts on my bmw 335i soon
Love the longer video!
I was a Jag lawyer at Fort Bliss/ El Paso, Texas and bought a brand new Dodge Ram Diesel 4x4 and only had it 2 week 670 miles and the darn thing was stolen while I was on post shopping at the PX. Trucks are a very hot commodity in TX especially near the border!
Love your channel! As a lifelong resident of Texas I have driven Texas roads for over 40 years and drive a service vehicle for my job, including travel between Austin and Dallas probably 1000 times and never had a broken windshield in all this time. Maybe I have just been lucky so far?
Yep your good Another good build
i dont do struts anymore because ive spent a lifetime being scared of them,i take them to my mot testing station and stand outside as they compress those springs of pain, great video enjoyed it as i always do
I think what I find most impressive is the fact that you can hop from "This is how you replace an engine and transmission with no help" to "ok, I'm opening the ignition and replacing the delicate lock tumblers" without missing a beat.
I got really lucky with an Excursion V10 truck years ago. It was a low mileage rollover with a Florida certicate of destruction that was 2yrs old at the time. It had more damage from the tow company recovering it than the lazy half roll did to it.
Went to Florida and brought it back to northeast Ohio. Replaced the roof and an a-pillar along with the windshield and some misc parts. I got it inspected and issued a new title and started using it. About a week later the trans freaked out so I took it to my local dealer. They covered the repairs under warranty and it was good as new. I'm still not sure how I had warranty coverage on a rebuilt truck but I didn't argue.
If it had the 22" wheels 'n tires, it would be a clone of my brother's truck. Great Job!
My Therapist sent me here, best hour of my day
Ohh man!, I'm on the other side of the planet and was still getting ready to dodge a flying spring when you pumped down that strut compressor. Never to be taken lightly!.
For being a theft recovery it's actually in a good shape. Lot of thiefs destroy these vehicles from inside and out beyond repairs.
ATX resident w/ 2nd broken windshield in a year here...huge amount of construction w/ related rock (and a little dirt) hauling by clapped out trucks w/ limited inspection has rocks all over the road - add in all that truck traffic, many many lifted pickups w/ no mud flaps, and those rocks get flung everywhere. I have theory the heat / sun may weaken the glass, but my windshields were both less than 1 yr old so...think its the rocks
Remember it takes General Motors to make a "vampire" windshield - weakens in sunlight.
I completely understand why windshields get broken. Two lane roads with gravel shoulders and a 75mph limit. It doesn’t matter the make, all windshields in Texas die eventually! 😂
Nice looking truck, should be a nice vehicle for resale.good video.keep doing what your doing 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thanks
Nice find Scott!!! As a Texan who has lived all over the country, the only place I have had my windshield cracked is on Texas interstates. If you run over a piece of gravel at 85+ mph you will launch it a hundred yards behind you and it has a greater chance of finding a windshield, and they always find a windshield. :D
Yep, I understand it. I just find it humorous at this point. I have a chip in my trucks windshield. I wonder where it came from? 😂
Same. I grew up in the land of Salt and corruption and never broke one and now live in sand and cactus land. My windshields are all aftermarket units. Lol.
58:53 I have found when having to route wires up from the bottom, I get a cheapo thin coat hanger (the painted kind) or some 14 ga house ground wire, tape whatever needs to be routed to the end and fish that through. It's thin enough to get into the small spaces but rigid enough to stay vertical....Works really well if you can't access from the top and fish it through down. Plus you can put bends in it to get around stuff.
Another trick: if you have to rout a wire through something like conduit, tape a paper towel to the wire you have to fish through and go to the other end with a shop vac....works like a charm! Just make sure you tie off the other end otherwise you'll suck the whole thing through then have to do it again. ask me how I learned THAT lesson lol....
An awesome long one! nice!
Wow, listed for $42k with 85k miles. Was about $63k (w/o TTL) when new if you paid sticker. I'm glad I'm not in the market for a truck. I had no idea prices were so ridiculous. Now I'm curious what Scott had in it.
I think you care for your rebuilt more than the buyer…..you always do a great job ….another good accomplishment..,I wished I live in the US ,so I can purchase one of your rebuilt, knowing it’s not going to die on me…. Hehehehe
