This is the most beautiful version I have heard. Outstanding. Transcending all my anxieties about life and completing my PhD. I'm an Irishman living in England. This song is special to me and I'm certain its going to get me through a lot in life. God bless you all.
Hi, I`m a german folker loving this song. I sang it on my father side as he layed dead in 2006, 4 years later I had to do the same for my brother. And now, after 1 and a half year, I hear the song again and tears come in my eyes...for me it`s a bridge to the persons I lost. Is it romatic? Am I a fool? You can think about me and this son whatever you want. It`s a great gift for all people with a feeling heart.
This song is my emotional kryptonite. There only a few things that can make me cry. This song is one of those things. Especially when Michael Londra is singing it. His voice is perfect for bringing out the somber tone. The background music and lyrics also add to the somber tone.
this was my grandfather's favourite song ever, played it in his funeral. . . . 6 yrs later I had a puppy and called him Danny Boy. . . when Danny Boy was about 3 yrs old, I took him to where my grandfather's ashes were scattered and he walked straight to the exact spot. "And i shall hear how soft you tread upon me". makes me think my grandfather's spirit lives on in my dog? ? is this possible??
My Uncle Tommy wanted this to be the song at his funeral. He died sooner then expected. But we searched for a store that had it, and My uncle Tommy Got his wish... It is a song his mother (my grandmother) sang to her sons (she had 8)...So I had 8 uncles. All died before my grandmother. She sat there and listened to that lullaby... I think it was like soothing him to sleep again like a boy.
Though he was not Irish, my father Manfred Anson always loved this song. Probably because he spent a good part of his life in Australia where lived a great many of the Irish people. He was a seargeant in the Australian army and fought against the Japanese in New Guinea during WWII. And now I have a great love for this song along with all Irish music from that fine land. I love you and miss you every day dad, your devoted son, Joel
I've made my six children promise that they (and hopefully grandchildren) will sing this song at my funeral. It's an amazingly beautiful song about good-byes, especially good-byes that might last a long time... For all the angry people on this post, forgive each other...
I've been listening to. Danny Boy my entire life and I'm pushin 70 this is the most heartfelt rendition I have ever heard. I'm leaving for Ireland is 6 weeks and I know when I get there what I want to hear this Van Morrison. Rans good

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying 'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow 'Tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so. And if you come, when all the flowers are dying And I am dead, as dead I well may be You'll come and find the place where I am lying And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me. And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

My great uncle recently died, and he was born in Ireland. He was like a grandfather to me because I never got to meet my actual grandfather. My younger sister and I got the honor of singing this song at the funeral. He was born in Ireland and he'd always sing this song to my sister and I before we would go to sleep at night. I
Oh Mummy, I miss you sooo much. This is the first song in my memory - your favourite. I miss your hugs and your beautiful, melodic soprano voice. R.I.P
look, just to stop people saying the same thing. the song was written by an English guy but was made for the Irish...okay, we all good? then can i actually read some comments rather than people saying who wrote it or who it was made for. no one cares. its an amazing song, the song and the meaning is all that matters.
We had a great tenor, who knew my Dad, sing this live at my father's funeral in 1996. I can still remember the tenor singing while crying. So was everyone in the church.
That's why God loves the Irish. Faith, he loves the dear old sod Second only to his God, And he prays someday her freedom she will gain. Ready with his wit and blarney, Whether from Cork or Killarney, To bring back the sunshine after rain. And since he's been created, it's a fact well known, He's fought for ev'ry other nation and his own.

At the time I was only 13, still pretty sheltered, so I had no idea why he showed me this. In the past 3 1/2years I've grown a lot.I see now that he showed me this song so I would have something that really reminded me of him. like a note, and this song is just that.I'm now taking this song to solo contest in a choir contest just for him :)

So what? Who cares what nationality was the person who wrote it? It's a great song, and for anyone is free to sing it. Haters going to hate, as Taylor Swift would say.

Exactly the same as my granddad who died a few months ago and when I hear this all I can think of is him as it was also the song played at his funeral. I'm sorry to hear about your loss but just remember they will always be with us and watching over us.
My Grandpa would play this song over and over again in the car, in every different version. He passed away yesterday. Be at peace Grandpa. A great man. A great life. You will be missed xxx
i like to sit in my bunk at night after a long day out on patrol in afghan and just sit listening to this song and think how much i value my friends and family back home. such a great song
We are all sad to learn of the passing of your Dad named Danny -- so we all extend our thoughts, our love, and most of all our prayers to you. I am a mixed American--Scots, Irish, Welch, and English. born in the USA and by the Grace of God born in Dixie, I am proud of my ancestors that wore Gray as I am of my folks that fought in the Spanish-American War, WW I, WW II, Korea and Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Gulf War, the Balkans and every where else our country has needed us to bleed for God and Country.
I dedicate this song to all the families of the school shooting at sandy hook elementary school in newton Connecticut 12/14/12. Please keep the families in your thoughts and prayers.
i just cried at this because in a year i will be leaving my family and friends to come to ireland (which i love because of my irish grandmother) and i'm going to miss them so much. i wish that my mother could come with me.
It is a beautiful song and one that certainly fits for Dan Wheldon whom was tragically killed yesterday at LVMS in the Indy Car final. He will certainly be missed. Condolences to his family Susie, Sebastian, Oliver and the rest of the Wheldon family.
After my great grandfather died several years ago, my great grandmother had the lyrics of this song written down on a small piece of paper. She always held onto it and constantly read it to tears. She is now in the hospital and won't last the week. She asked this song to be played at her funeral. She's been living a wonderful 97 years and has touched countless people's lives. She will be back with her husband soon and for that, I am happy for her.
This is the most beautiful version I have heard. Outstanding. Transcending all my anxieties about life and completing my PhD. I'm an Irishman living in England. This song is special to me and I'm certain its going to get me through a lot in life.
God bless you all.
One of the most beautiful renditions of 'Danny Boy' that I've ever heard. Thank you.

My little cousin (12 years old at the time) sang this song at my grandads funeral, still play this song at least 3-4 times a week
This is our anthem- The Londonderry Air- in the North. Proud Ulsterman; Proud Irishman. Greetings from County Antrim, Ireland! 26+6=1 !
Think u mean derry
+Irish And Proud Tal It literally is Derry now
+NemoNobody2092 i can confirm its derry. hopefully for obvious reasons
You're being logical if you call it Derry. That's what it was called before the British changed it. If you want to be at peace, it makes sense to revert to the original name of Derry
This should be our new National anthem!
And that should be my tardis
And Oi your following me! :D
+Gamer24/7
SP Murphy It's already the anthem of the North of Ireland- rightly or wrongly.
Agree Tyler and rightly
Listening from Louisiana, USA ... This is one of the most beautiful versions of the song i've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
I sang this in The Lego Movie!
You did, and I wondered what you sang until now
I found it funny, but now it's sad
It makes sense..you've lost Good Cop
And replaced him with Scribble Cop in sear h for your counterpart
Yes, I also had to freeze my own parents...
Bad Cop
Don't worry buddy, everything got better too~
Yes...
h-hey buddy! how is scribble cop?
I think that sometimes it sound like "you raise me up".
This song is older, much older than you raise me up. So more likely that it's the other way round.
hey I thought that to myself literally 2 seconds before reading your comment :) also it's apparently the tune to a hymn as well!!
Or does 'You Raise Me Up" sound like Danny Boy?
for my gran that used to sing this to me n my name is daniel and she called me danny boy its coming to christmas and i miss u soooooooooooooooooooooooo much i would give everything to spend one day with you as u were the best person i ever met and i hate cancer and i hope we find a cure at 98 you should not have died of such a horrrible sickness i miss u sooooooooooo
Being Irish brought me here
same
+John Stots yes but it was meant for the Irish
Love this song, and this song has nothing to do with leaving or stayin in with Brits, but I would stay, and it's Derry not londonderry

But the lyrics are written by an Englishman, just to an Northern Irish tune. O.o
So what? Who cares what nationality was the person who wrote it? It's a great song, and for anyone is free to sing it. Haters going to hate, as Taylor Swift would say.
+Marcus Cicero that makes northern ireland the basterd baby Ireland is dodging the child support for

i am glad it brings you home for a few minutes. great work in Afghanistan. My best to you Michael Londra (the singer of Danny Boy)
It is a beautiful song and one that certainly fits for Dan Wheldon whom was tragically killed yesterday at LVMS in the Indy Car final. He will certainly be missed. Condolences to his family Susie, Sebastian, Oliver and the rest of the Wheldon family.
My tears fell in the grass of Ireland. Pour me a glass and walk me home in the rain.
