I had the cassette of the Innocent Age when it first came out and this song blew me away. Wore that poor cassette out. Now, as I always explore places for music, I found the album on CD at the thrift 41 years later. Still stands the test of time. I was a DJ at the time of his passing and played the last song his wife released (Sometimes a Song) and helped raised funds for Prostate Cancer research. Still miss his amazing talent.
One of my all-time favorite Dan songs. The chorus actually gave me strength many times in the darkest hours over the last 30 years. And in case anyone missed this, Dan's playing a 12 string, which gives this piece a stunning sound. 12 strings are damn hard to plan and even harder to play well.
mwmii790 I think that everybody needs to have their own personal theme song , and Dan Fogelberg's 'Nexus' is mine! I play it often on my Takamine 12-string, in much the same manner as Dan does in this video. I am a semi-professional musician, and Dan was always my major musical influence, and I play a lot of his stuff at my gigs. I just wish that God could have given me his brain when he passed. I cried for weeks when I heard he had passed, and am still not over it yet. RIP Dan, you will be forever missed. 😿
just one of the finest "freeform" pieces of music on 12 string..i love his solo explorations..12 strings make you sound like a champ until you try to stuff like what Dan was doing(i know 1st hand), just a lovely performance!!
What an amazing vision he must have had to create that song--it's almost as the he's not one of us, maybe from another realm. Now fallen beneath the waves...I wish those that hate him could hear his entire body of work--the most talented artist in our era.
Especially enjoyed Dan's songs that he played on his 12 string guitar! Those have unmatched sound. Just had to hear a few tonight.... I am so glad he did Nexus with it.... the words to this song are are priceless! I will always remember the line, "... our heart becomes the instrument we learn to play so well, so well... ". The older I get the more all these verses mean to me. This song is timeless and just absolutely priceless! Ever On!
What an unbelievable talent Dan has! He makes it seem so effortless! I love watching him play like this. He is amazing. Dan, I miss you so! Thanks, Tim.
Ive been listening to Nexus alot this week and it just is so awesome--I love Dan's guitar playing, the whole structure of the song, the lyrics, the message and Dan's voice==he sure had it all. Its still hard to think of him gone, there will never be another Dan-he will always be my favorite!!
Wow.. can't believe this song is over 30 years old and I never get tired of it.. I don't believe I've ever viewed this...I guess I was saving the best for last.. A double wow on the guitar playing ... love that sparkle sound he gives with the use of the higher strings.. Happy Anniversary to "The Innocent Age" album. 30 years young...love ya Dan... and thanks for the music!
The world lost such an incredible talent...Dan always amazes me, there's no one like him. He will always be missed and loved. Thank you for theses videos, I really enjoy the live acoustic ones you've posted.
This is quintessential Dan at his finest (although when was he not? ). This song and the entire Innocent Age LP/CD was par with Netherlands - in my opinion. Each of all of his albums - a unique style of their own, from an ever evolving amazing artist, singer, guitarist and pianist - at the top of his game. Always. Miss him.
Every time I see one of these pop up, it sends me straight to my sorely neglected 12 string. The old Fender thanks you. What a great video. Thanks for keeping us mere mortals inspired!
My late Sis turned me on rto Dan and now I see her every time I hear him.thanks Dan.looher up there in heaven.her name is Cindy Harris Pettigrew and today is her birthday 🎂 Love you Cindy,!!
Dan was a tremendous musical talent. Greatly missed. I wished I'd taken the time to get to one of his concerts. I have few regrets in my life and that is one of them for sure.
Michael, he lived about 4 miles away from me & i was too afraid to bother his privacy when he was alive.. i regret that, from what i've heard from friends around here..he liked any musician even if they were awful but had a lot of enthusiasum.Dan was loved here in Maine
Wow - This is just incredible - Nexus is one of my favourite songs and I wouldn't have imagined it could be played solo so movingly. We all miss Dan. Thanks for sharing Tim!
I first saw him at Saint John's University and he opened with Netherland solo on piano and it was one of the best songs I ever heard I l will miss him I even have the Phoenix album tattooed on my arm
Saw him twice...in '77 at the Universal Amphitheater which was open air then. Extraordinary sound. First segment was just Dan & all acoustic. Second part had his road band, Fool's Gold. It was electric. About 2/3 of the way through that set he brought Don Felder up to the stage. Magical. Second time was in '82...unfortunately they put a roof on the Amphitheater. Dan did 2 hrs + all acoustic solo. Wow.
Wow! This acoustic arrangement of Nexus really blows me away. I wonder how long it took him to perfect the hypnotic sequence on the upper upper six strings? Thanks for sharing this, Tim Hatfield.
haha,. hi, dreembarge! WA is a fine musician, too. But Dan has music and words, inspiring words. :) Windham Hill would've been so lucky to have had Dan on their label.

Same here. Fortunately we've got his music and recorded performances for us to revisit time after time.
