Many thanks for sharing this. Harry's music has been a constant companion for me for approaching 50yrs. I was fortunate to see him in concert four times in the UK before his untimely death. I still miss him but I'm grateful that so much of his material lives on. RIP Harry and thank you.
Had tickets to see him at the Garden State Arts Center for the day after he passed. I was devastated. It took me several years before I could begin listening to him again. He touched me deeply not only as a performer but as a genuine human being. I still miss him.
Eh George. I miss him too. He was the voice I heard in my early 20's that gave me values and a moral compass. Harry is as relevant today and he was in his past. So human, so caring and so true. ...
@@danhanna8610 you couldn't have said it any better thank you for your beautiful words I was supposed to see him too a week a week after get past yes it was awful
I, too, had tickets for later that summer when he was scheduled to perform in Indianapolis, IN. It would have been my third time seeing/hearing him; it would have been my wife of 42 years' first. Miss his music greatly. I wrote an essay not too long ago in which I used his song, "Remember When the Music," to structure a recollection of the various events in my life. He was such a treasure.
I am 70 now and fortunate to have seen Harry live twice. I don't listen to his music all the time but I drop in and drop out. But he is always there! And will be, until.......
Every time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes..... Seriously what has happened to the authentic story teller musicians, poets.... I'm 55 and while I appreciate all diverse music genres, and music in periods of time, I say the best story tellers in music are Harry Chapin, J Croce , they are supberb... Would love to have a revival of authentic musicians , emoting such beautiful lyrics today.... sigh.. Harrys the best RIP.. gone way way to soon
+Rene K yes, two many deaths that year for sure!!! Jim Croce and Harry Chapin were the best! Who knows WHAT they could have accomplished had they carried on............
Today's my 59th birthday. I got to see Harry once, on what would be his last tour. It still stands as the bright shining light in my life. Got to shake hands with him after the show. Shortly thereafter he died. Nobody has ever affected me like Harry. God bless the man.
I played and sang this lovely song for my third graders at El Verano School in Sonoma, CA, spring of 1997, when they were reading “Sarah, Plain and Tall.” It’s my favorite Chapin song.

Mail Order Annie, Woman Child and Sniper are my favourite Harry songs. Always had front row seats for him when he played Belfast during the Troubles when few singers dared come. Was privileged to see him maybe three/four times mostly with his band but one very special time with just his brothers Tom and Steve who were equally talented individuals. We let time go far too lightly (a Steve Chapin song) back then as we never knew what we were about to lose.
Harry Chapin is fantastic, but he never got the recognition he deserved for he passed away to suddenly and too soon I've always loved this music I can sit and listen to it sometimes cries sometimes laugh but always touches my heart God rest God rest in peace Love you Harry always will. You always bring 🔙 such beautiful memories thank you Harry

I cry every time I hear this song. So lucky to have seen him at Pine Knob. Sat in the first row and he sat on the edge of the stage right in front of me.

Many times I would use Harry Chaplin videos to perk up my history lesson plans. Mail Order Annie was a particular favorite of my high school students. They really get him
About two months ago my fiancee and I took a nice romantic walk along a stretch of Alaska beach with the ocean on one side and empty North Dakota-like plains on the other. We sat down on a log together overlooking the gently rolling grassy fields and I sang this song for her a capella. She'd never heard it before, and she had no idea that I'd been practicing singing it in the shower for about a week to get every note right. If she wasn't in love with me when I started the song, she sure was by the time I finished! Mail Order Annie has a lot of meaning for both of us, as my fiancee narrowly missed being a mail order bride herself. We began our relationship with a few months of exchanging letters, emails and Skype calls, and I proposed to her on our second actual date.
@Frank Cirisano Today is our 33rd anniversary. Some of that we spent living on the N. Dakota/Montana Plains. This song has always meant a lot to me. I hope you married your girl and are working toward 33 joy filled years.
I was so Blessed to see him in Omaha. I was sitting with my back to the wall in the nosebleed section. But it was as if I were in the front row. What a great musicians and songwriter. His music has always been tears in my empty life.
I couldn't keep the tears from comin' during this song. Of all of the Harry Chapin concerts I went to back in the late 70's, the most poignant were those with the personal touch - in a church, a school auditorium - where Harry was literally in your face. This just brings back those magical moments, and it feels so good. We miss you, Harry - although you left us too early, you have shaped my sense of compassion for those in need.. with your music and your deeds. Come and visit us again soon.
I love Harry’s music so much he was so special I love his story songs they are heavenly. My Grandmother Annie was a mail order bride who came over from England and married my Grandfather Sam a farmer in Kentucky. This song has extra special meaning to me it’s almost like my Grandparents story so touching. I never got to know them as they both died young when my Father was only six. Thank you Harry for your sweet music. I love and miss you always...a dear fan! “All My Life’s A Circle.” 💗🎶🙏🏼💗🎵☮️♥️
Just heard this song on Sirius radio and had to look it up on UA-cam. Beautiful live version with gentle lyrics ♥️. First time to hear it ❣️ Memory Eternal
Harry was Special and unique!!! I have one day a week i play Harry. I still love his music like i just heard it for the first time. Bless his memory!!!
Harry was the greatest singer/songwriter to ever come out of America. I had the great honour to twice meet him in person. A lovely guy who lived for his beliefs and his fans..God bless you Harry.
Will never forget the sweet kiss I received from Harry Chapin when he came to do a one-man concert in Montgomery, AL, late ‘70s. He looked and dressed liked he is here, and at the end of his excellent performance, he was in the lobby signing his program as they were sold, and each man got a handshake, and each woman got a kiss.... right on the lips!💋
I was lucky enough to see Harry live about a dozen times. An incredible personality, gifted writer, and performer. Harry was one of the most generous and humble people to ever live. We lost a great musician and human being when he was killed in '81.
Saw Harry for a couple of magic hours in Winnipeg in the 70s. I was thirty at the time, kids were little, now Im eighty ,kids are big ......but Cats in the cradle still make me want to cry.
When I was eighteen, I also saw him in Wpg in the seventies...and again and again and then no more. He stays with a soul, no matter the timeline. Cry on.
It's so good to read the comments of all these fans. My sons and I saw him in concert about six times, and we had tickets for a performance at the Star Plaza in Merrillville, In. We got word of the tragic accident just a few days before scheduled performance. No one captured magic moments of time in story songs like Harry. From the way you guys sound, you sat in the back or the balcony at his concerts ... It's like he always said, "You can ALways count on the cheap seats!" Miss ya, man ...
Miss you Harry! Wish I could be booking tickets to go see you in concert. Can only imagine how much more great music you could have composed but what you gave was much more than most do. Thank you!❤️
I saw him with my college girlfriend in 1980 in Providence RI. He was excellent and I can remember that when he sang this song some knucklehead let a beer bottle roll down the aisle, to Harry's credit he never broke stride even though the entire place heard it. What a memory. What a song......
I was at that show, I could be wrong but wasn't it at the old Leroy Concert Theater. I had completely forgotten about the bottle, it reverberated throughout the hall for what seemed an eternity. It was my first time of four, seeing him perform. All four times I went to see him were the most fun I ever had at a concert. He is definitely missed.
+grandpavanderhof I believe it was at the Leroy. He was an amazing man, My girlfriend and I stayed after to buy the tshirts he was promoting to fight hunger. He was there at the vending table, when he gave her the t shirts he reached over and kissed her. I bet she still remembers that.
I saw Harry live at Ravinia (open-air concert venue north of Chicago) in the mid-late 70s, stood in line for an hour or more - in the rain - for an autograph and yes, a kiss. His lips were so soft and lovely! I'll never forget that night as long as I live.

As a widowed rancher, looking out across my land, to the High Chiricahua mountains, I still hope that love will find me once again. Is there a Mail Order Annie for me?
Only Harry Chapin could have pulled this song off. The kids I work with don't even know what a story song writer even is. And there really was nobody like Chapin

I was fortunate to see Harry seceral times in the '70s from New Jersey to Hershey, Pa. A favorite memory is when a woman ran up to the stage and handed Harry her bra after singinf this song. I am now 60 years old and still have every lp Harry made. My turntable is right next to my Christmd tree which has been up now for 6 years. I have never stopped listening to Harry and try to celebrate Christmas every day. I miss bth when they're gone
As an Irish guy, tired of hearing how much Geldof has done... "live-aid" etc (total .. two days food.. more spent on boats ant trucks..), yet Chapin with his "50 to the other guy" attitude.. that is he gave most of the box to his WHY (long before W-Aid) ...
Both Lennon and Dylan wud hav been proud 2 hav written this song.... i heard it 15 yrs ago..and have never 4gotten it... thank u...Harry...and bagnon;;whoever u are...
I cannot even decide on a favorite album of his. He was an incredible person who practiced what he preached and his legacy is proof of that. I do know there is not one song of his that I do not like. I would be interested in knowing why one person gave this song a "dislike".
Mail order Annie...I met my wife online...15 years ago...I...knew she was the one...after ten years of being...so much alone...I took a chance with her and she with me...in fifteen years...we've never left each other's side...God gave us a gift...each other...and the love between us...grows
he sat on the edge of the stage at the masonic temple in detroit rumpled hair, turtleneck sweater and faded jeans, then a complete silence... and just Harry and his harmonica, no fireworks, no theatrics, no flaming broken guitars, just Harry and that was enough for very vivid memories of so long ago
I'LL TELL U WHY BABY'S CRYIN', CAUSE SHE'S DYIN', AREN'T WE ALL" AFFECTS ALL OF US IN UNIQUE WAYS; LOSS OF LOVED ONES, FRIENDS, BEST FURY FRIENDS 4EVER, WE WERE INDESTRUCTABLE, NOW LASTING IN DREAMS & FADED PHOTOS, REKINDLED BY CLASSIC TUNES. HARRY CHAPIN TOUCHED OUR HEARTS & SOULS; FELT HIS MAGIC SPELL 1X, AT " MY FATHER'S PLACE, ROSLYN, LONG ISLAND, N.Y., THE AUDIENCE APPLAUDED & CHEERED WHEN " HE STUFFED THE BILL IN HIS SHIRT". @t more
Ive like other artist since, but only one that I loved! Had tickets to see him at the Garden State Arts Center the weekend he passed. It was also the day I was moving out of my house after finishing college. July 16th. Still need my Harry fix. Looked up this song to send to my son because he is freezing his butt off in North Dakota today!
art4ind i was on my way to J.F.K. sitting stuck in traffic on the L.I.E.Cursing about being delayed, we passed right past the Volkswagen and the accident 😔
My mail order Olga will arrive in about a week. The only difference is I’m in Illinois not North Dakota. Now as I listen to this who do you think is crying?
How do you pick a favorite H C song? This sure is a good one Saw him six times Each time he was a gracious as the last Each time he invited the cheap seats to sit in the isles up front Each time, he stuck around after the show until everyone had a chance to buy a "World Hunger Year" T, or just shake his hand. He walked the walk, talked the talk, and was truly loved by many.
My father told me about his youth growing up in the great depression as the orphan trains went by, and when one stopped, anyone who needed an extra pair of hands around the farm would grab a likely-looking kid abandoned from the east coast. Kids feared the orphan train, would it be them next... at least in this case, based on real life, the woman was presumably a volunteer, whether as going to a new life or fleeing an old one never to be known... hopefully the former

That was the performance I will always cherish. Was alone at that concert 😢 to the chagrin of friends.
Harry Chapin , what a treasure we lost when we lost you.
Saw him in concert a month before he died. The concert ever
Song makes me cry.

love harry, and the whole band. wish he would have had the chance to be around for many more years
My favorite Harry song. Saw him do this in Ambler, Pa without a mic or music and he still pulled it off.
I miss him too..
I love this playlist!

♥...To tell you that I'm glad you're here,
You are the woman who's come to be my wife.
You know it's not no easy life you're entering.♥
My father told me about his youth growing up in the great depression as the orphan trains went by, and when one stopped, anyone who needed an extra pair of hands around the farm would grab a likely-looking kid abandoned from the east coast. Kids feared the orphan train, would it be them next... at least in this case, based on real life, the woman was presumably a volunteer, whether as going to a new life or fleeing an old one never to be known... hopefully the former
