High fire resist also means he can eat the franks straight off the grill or out of the boiler, and fire breath gives him the option to cook his own whiles others are forces to wait. He'd probably assume the contest is more about endurance and therefore start off slow, but then speed up as he realizes he's being outpaced by humans.
