I feel like calling the original Astro's Playroom as a "demo" is unfair. The game has four area with each has four more subareas. It takes quite a bit of time to complete everything. It offers way more content than just a "demo".
There are people who've spent tens of hours in the game trying to better their times, just like they would in a regular platformer. I agree it's more substantial than a tech demo.
The PS5 haptics are literally capable of next level immersion, but unfortunately pretty much only Astro takes full advantage of it. Maybe if this game does well enough it will inspire more developers to take advantage of the tech.
And that's a pretty important lense through which to review this, as you can plot how the series has evolved and note the recurring bosses and bot rescue scenarios.
@@debaserchaser891 The bots first appeared in a PS4 augmented reality demo for the PS Camera called The Playroom. The follow up was a VR multiplayer experience called The Playroom VR which is the first game to introduce Astro. So the Astro/Playroom series of games have actually been around for a little over 10 years
I mean this should at least have some context, because Sony has put some effort in years past. Astro Bot, Lego Horizon this year. They have had the Ratchet and Clank series for years and also Little Big Planet before MM was almost shut down. Sackboy a Big Adventure in 2020. @@PlatinumAltaria You've said that several times in these comments. Why? Do you not see that Concord is the biggest game failure of the decade? Do you not see that Jim Ryan lost his job because he went all-in on games-as-a-service, pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into games nobody wants to play? They'll release about 3 more of them (games now 80-90% complete like Marathon), they will all fail, and the trend will be done. Sony will be looking for a new direction, a single-player direction. I hope it includes more games like Astro Bot.
Just got the plat. One of the best games on PS5 and probably one of the best games Sony has ever made. I don't usually buy games full price but this one's worth it.
Sony really need to thank asobi after this. They’ve had the biggest failure the platform has ever seen in Concord. But Asobi has clearly succeeded on every level with astrobot
@@juancarlosalonso5664 I don't agree, Sony should never have greenlit that project when it's clear they had no ideas beyond "hero shooter", and they DEFINITELY shouldn't have kept giving it more money after 5 years.
Exactly. SIE corporate put together 12 teams to make games like Concord, and allowed Team Asobi to keep making their passion project (which the corporate guys just forgot about for 3 years, Team Asobi almost an afterthought). And look where the great game is coming from that will boost Sony's flagging first-party reputation -- their forgotten star studio, the only leftovers of the gutted JAPANStudio. Corporate guys need to get a clue, like, now.
They only have one team that can make them now, Team Asobi. They fired the rest of JAPANStudio several years ago, and have lost a lot of Japanese connections that used to be strong. We'll just have to wait another four years for the next Team Asobi game. Hopefully some third-party developers with talent, desire and a focus on craftsmanship will pick up the mantle and make more games like this. The gaming world needs it in the 2020s.
Astrobot is Sony's answer to Nintendo's Mario and it's a really good one at that. It gives off the vibes of classic platformers, while being modern at the same time. After the recent failure and shutdown of Concord, it's nice to see a title that's fun, charming, and that has personality. For Astro's Playroom to go from being a techo demo to a fully playable experience, shows how much people love Astro. Astro Bot is colorful, vibrant, and it's a pleasure to look at. It looks as good as it plays. The audio is really good as well. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. Thanks, Karak! As always, I appreciate the honest, unbiased, and detailed review! Keep it up! @@PrenticeSummerscales But it isnt exactly a full game either. Its like bowsers fury, except without super mario 3d world.
The daughter asked me to buy this earlier in the week.
Obviously I’ll need to make sure it’s age appropriate at the midnight release later… 😎
The PS5 haptics are literally capable of next level immersion, but unfortunately pretty much only Astro takes full advantage of it. Maybe if this game does well enough it will inspire more developers to take advantage of the tech.
Gran Turismo and spider man also do a good representing of them
Astro bot did NOT start as a "PS5 pack in"....
Astro bot is pure concentrated happiness and joy. I hope Sony makes more games like this in the future!
Everyone seems to forget that AstroBot didn’t start with the PS5 freebie, but with a highly acclaimed full-fledged VR game.
And that's a pretty important lense through which to review this, as you can plot how the series has evolved and note the recurring bosses and bot rescue scenarios.
@@tywood2022 didn't it start even earlier with eye toy or something?
@@tywood2022 they’re making such a mistake not porting that to ps5 for psvr2 btw
@@debaserchaser891 The bots first appeared in a PS4 augmented reality demo for the PS Camera called The Playroom. The follow up was a VR multiplayer experience called The Playroom VR which is the first game to introduce Astro. In it, there is a mini-game called Robots Rescue which got expanded on and released as Astro Bot Rescue Mission. So the Astro/Playroom series of games have actually been around for a little over 10 years
Awesome!!! Sony and Xbox have forgotten to make kid's games. Only Nintendo makes them nowadays.
This is a game I can play with my daughter. I love it.
But this proves Sony hasn't forgotten....
@@RhythmatticaI know right haha
I mean this should at least have some context, because Sony has put some effort in years past.
Astro Bot, Lego Horizon this year. They have had the Ratchet and Clank series for years and also Little Big Planet before MM was almost shut down. Sackboy a Big Adventure in 2020.
The crazy thing is Sony usually hits a homerun with their titles aimed at younger audiences. They are great for kids and most adults love them also. It would be cool if they did this once or twice a year with big releases aimed at younger audience.
You not played the other astrobot games, my daughter is 4 and plays all the big platformers, absolutely loves mario, kirby, sonic, the usual stuff but astros playroom is by far her favorite game and it has been for the last 2 years, show her that game too but if this is your first experience with astrobot get ready to smile from ear to ear the whole time, it's just the next level of platformers
Wholesome fun with Astrobot and then smashing alien brains into mush with Space Marine 2… it’s gonna be a good week!
This weekend will be awesome 👍
Calling in to work tomorrow 😂

@@MoviesNGames007uk yeah the bot account copied me
As a PC player, this might be the first time in 4 PS5´s years that I actually want to play an exclusive on day one.
Great review as always, everyone always forgets the VR game which was one of the best PSVR1 games of them all. Wish they had given the option for those that bought PSVR2. maybe in the future though.
It was my fav PSVR title for sure! So fun in VR
@@DEADWINTER 100% I loved the way they incorporated the VR mechanics into the levels and ofc your big brother helping out here and there along the way. So unique and enjoyable! Have a great day Winter!
I tell people astro bot VR was the best VR game I've ever played and they think I'm crazy. It's just one of those games you have to play to understand. Every level had someone in it to make me feel like a kid again.
@@Jim26D absolutely, I couldnt agree more. you just sort of have to put on the headset and dive in to really get it.
Looks like they recycled some of the levels and bosses from Rescue Mission as well.
Hopefully this game marks a shift in playstation's priorities. I'm an old man at 35, I don't need to play assassins creed or cod ever again. In fact I might just wanna play astrobot and that fancy dress game, im so damn tired of the serious kill everything nonsense, oh and tired of battle passes and buying small pieces of content that cost more than most indie games on steam.
Sony is, as we speak, prepping to release 49 looter shooters.
Fancy dress game, haha. I lnow which one you're talking about but i forgot the name as well. Infinity something?
Either way, just dropping by to say i'm also a man in his late thirties who happens to be interested in those same games. There's dozens of us!
Also, The Plucky Squire is another one i look forward to. Looks pretty cute and fun too.
That depends on the sales numbers of this game. Go out and buy this game
@@sonicmania9993 Woke woke DEI
Hell yeah! Been waiting for something pure fun since R&C Rift Apart. Thanks for the review!
Love your channel mate.
It's one of my favourites.

Astrobot started as a vr game, then the pack in for ps5
Amazing review brother!! Had an absolute blast here! I hope this sells so well
Great review but you got an important detail of the series history wrong. The original game was the VR game. The “demo” on PS5 was the follow-up.
And it was far more than a demo, it was a damn fun game and remains to this day one of the consoles best.
@@sebastianalhares Yeah, you could maybe call it a demo of the dual sense but the game itself would not be accurately described as demo.
This looks so good! I still hope there will be an Astro game for PSVR2 too.
Calling it Sony’s Mario 64 ensured I clicked.
That was his plan
Yeah this game will be forgotten in less than a year. Mario 64 lol yeah right
@@Doggo-frenctonplease stfu it's being massively praised
Just got the plat. One of the best games on PS5 and probably one of the best games Sony has ever made. I don't usually buy games full price but this one's worth it.
Sony really need to thank asobi after this. They’ve had the biggest failure the platform has ever seen in Concord. But Asobi has clearly succeeded on every level with astrobot
I think that just as Team Asobi deserves the credit for how creative Astro Bot is, Firewalk deserves the blame for how generic Concord was.
This looks insanely fun. Really wish they made games like this more often
Astrobot does have a voice, he says, i am astrobot
Dude wasn’t expecting a review of this from you. Nice!
Remember, despite Karak's appearance, he is nothing but a big child at heart. Just like the rest of us.
Not me sitting here watching every review and the countdown on ps5
Why would this shill know anything about games
@@upon-fe2720 so sorry to hear about your micro peen.
Keep it up! God bless and stay safe!
Astro bot is definitely a GOTY contender!
My body is ready!!! I have been wanting a way to reward the developers for their awesome work with Astro's Playroom and this is it!!
This game needs to be local coop. Be amazing to play 2 player.
Online co-op as well bc I’m too busy to hang in person very often
I highly recommend Sackboy (the PS5 launch game). It has some fantastic local coop!
Agreed. Why are they pushing so hard to get rid of split screen when we are at the day and age where we have the biggest TVS. Makes zero sense.

From Concord to this. Incredible...
Ive been playing since Monday, this is without a doubt my favorite platformer ive ever played. Better than any 3d mario for me, the themes, gameplay, music, levels, just hit for me.

@@56ty_ it can be true physical stores have the game 2 weeks ago some countries give them early
Better than Rescue Mission??
@@56ty_ wdym cap? Got it early from the Walmart app glitch lol, so did a ton of others. And yes, this game is the shit and is better than any recent 3d Mario including Odyssey imo
To be honest galaxy, odyssey and 3d world are the only decent 3d mario games. The ones before are just crappy games with jank physics and there hasn't been a new one since odyssey. And in terms of 2d platformers, mario is pretty lacking. New super mario bros U is the only decent one in my opinion, and even that game has some lackluster elements like the bosses and art style.
For me Astro bot rescue mission is the best VR experience i ever had ❤ im rooting for it more than anything
I'm really glad Playstation got a true mascot worthy ebough to compete with Mario, at least in terms of game quality and representation of its eco systems using the controller, visual, and audio
To infinity and analogs!
Super stoked for this one! Also, just wanted to say man that you’re a really good writer. A always laugh numerous times per video, and you have a style that is uniquely your own.

The small dose they gave on the ps5 was some of the most wholesome fun I had in awhile and reminded of the games that got me into video games
GOTY
Not a chance in hell lol
@@dougr8646Why not? Its critically acclaimed by many and heavily praised for being one the few original AAA games to release the past few years. It has a decent shot at GOTY, tbh. Just because it has a more kids focus doesnt mean its not good.
I love the look of the far east Asian style level. Overall it looks and sounds amazing.
It's probably my most anticipated platform game since Super Mario Odyssey
Sony finally have their mascot, it only took 30 years! Bout time Sony! Looks great!
Sony has had plenty of mascots, they just chose to not go all the way with them for some reason.
I thought Kratos and Crash Bandicoot are their mascots?
@@utisti4976 A mascot like Mario, Sonic, Mickey Mouse, Ronald McDonnald. Those you mentioned were never exclusive to Playstation they were either timed exclusive or exclusive for a period of time and then eventually ported to other systems. They never really had that family friendly mascot that took off, Kratos is not family friendly lol.
I can see Astrobot being very successful, and that is a great thing it looks like so much fun.
@@coltonwilkie241 Because they all failed to become true household names like Mario, Sonic, Mickey Mouse, etc. I am taling family friendly macots the whole family knows and enjoys. Crash was it for a while but that franchise ended up on other machines and the older games ported over too. Knack was another try but it failed. Astrobot is lightning in a bottle and they seem to be running with it. Incoming movie from Sony movie studios in the next few years. I can also see robot toys too.
@@coltonwilkie241None of them really belonged to sony except sackboy, and i feel like astro is just a better mascot because he matches the playstation aesthetic and has more of that mascot feel.
The last Astrobot game was my favourite PS5 game. Great to see the sequel keeps the quality up 😊
Bear in mind Sony put this out around the same time as Concord. What is HAPPENING over there?
Different dev teams with a coincidental release window, sounds like.
Almost as if sony has different studios making games.
Games are really hit or miss I think they were hoping for the Spiderverse audience but way missed the mark.
@@RuddFoxxWhy dont they just make a game out of spiderverse then? Seems like the obvious thing to do.
Reminds me of Tearaway, probly the ONLY game to make use of all the functions of the Vita in a fun way
Take note Sony, there is no "modern audience" that will shell out cash for AAA preachy DEI slop like Concord, but will happily make Astrobot an icon.
We need more of this, and less Concord
Now this is impressive. It gives me hope for a new Ape Escape game
People who don't play platformers should not play a top-tier platformer and complain. If you're not into platformers, then you're not. It's not like people are out there saying, "I'm really into RTS's so I'm going to try every FPS and hate it till I find one that's like an RTS."
Yup same thing happened with the other best game this year, FF7 Rebirth. People who don't like Japanese Action RPGs hated on it all over the place on the internet. What's the point? Game's not their thing, so what?
Blazin Reviews did an awesome review of this game with a Dolby Atmos test calling it “Pure Perfection” he also used a Binaural microphone so you can hear the sounds from a home theater and the Dual Sense controller.
The Eastern devs showed the western devs how it's done. What a phenomenal year of games for Sony. XBOX wish they could do this with their scores
Are you out of your mind? Sony has totally floundered, this is literally the only new game on PS5 that's any good, and they're already winding the console down. Not that XBox is any better.

This looks great. Plenty of original looking stuff, but it's clear they took a lot of cues from modern 3D platformers. It seems inspired by a lot of best ones though.
