      Agreed.
      James Bond also represents committing to an nearly effortless, stoic pragmatic approach to your lifestyle, and applying active motion towards achieving your goals in an objectivist perspective, so Omega better qualifies as a Bond brand rather than Rolex, in my opinion.

    This may well have been talked about in another comment, but it turns out Omega offers three bracelet lengths for this titanium 007 Edition. The standard length is the one that ships to ADs and boutiques by default (and is what is on the on in this video). I had the same gap on my wrist when I tried it on. However, you can spec either a longer or shorter version as well. They are a no-cost option from Omega and will resolve the gap issue that is (fairly) being pointed out.

      I second this. Also, the bracelet loosens up and conforms to the wrist over time. I have a 6-3/4” wrist and it fits perfect after a few wears on the short length bracelet. I highly recommend getting one before they’re gone!

Omega says their aluminum material in the dial and insert will age over time which I think is super cool and will give it even a further vintage feel. 8:47 The helium escape valve makes the SMP the SMP. Its their signature. Almost iconic in a way. If you see someone wearing a watch and you spot the helium valve, its almost a certainty that the watch he or she is wearing is an Omega. I don't understand people wanting it removed. Its like asking Rolex to remove the cyclops on their watches.

    • @AndyAdventuring
      @AndyAdventuring 2 роки тому +12

      Yep. Absolutely keep it. Do I need it? Nope. Does it ruin symmetry? Yep. But at this point it's part of the SMP's DNA. Almost all of his requests for the stainless SMP near the end of the video basically turn it into a Submariner.

    • @iKonographi
      @iKonographi 2 роки тому +5

      100% agree, I’ve always thought the cyclops is horrific looking, but it’s distinctly Rolex. I don’t mind the escape valve at all and I think it adds a unique wabi sabi and asymmetry to the watch to make it unique

      @ivanharlokin 2 роки тому +2

      "Its like asking Rolex to remove the cyclops on their watches"
      You can get a Seamaster without a cyclops, and the cyclops itself has some utility. Not only is the Omega HEV next to useless, if you happened to be deep saturation diving, the external Omega wart is no more effective than the internal HEVs of other watch manufactures.

    • @patrickjean-philippe7679
      @patrickjean-philippe7679 2 роки тому +2

      The manual helium escape valve would be equally as effective as the internal ones. The difference is that the Omega’s helium escape valve is manual whereas internal ones are automatic which is better in my view point… Divers forgetting to manually open their Omega Seamaster helium escape valve whilst in the chamber during the decompression phase may see their watch crystal just pop out due to the pressure difference build-up… i.e. lower pressure in the chamber vs in the watch. Now, in any case, the decompression must be performed very slow such as to avoid injuring the divers hence hopefully helium which is one of the tiniest molecules, may find it’s way out through both the crown and helium escape valve’s gaskets even though the later may be closed… My father did saturation diving, with Comex at times for experimental dives, throughout thr 60-70ies. He had a mono-block Seiko without helium escape valve and it never popped… Perhaps he opened the crown…

    Omega Seamasters were issued to SBS members in real life (and I believe Bond's fictionalized resume includes assignment to the SBS during his Royal Navy career- therefore, it makes sense him wearing this watch) so its broad arrow designation in this instance is not purely just a gimmick as Omega does have a military pedigree ( I remember reading Omega was the MODs largest watch supplier during WW2).

    • @ustac1247
      @ustac1247 Рік тому +12

      Yes, AND it's my understanding that the British MOD gave Omega permission to include it (broad arrow pheon) for that reason AND because they like the Bond franchise and what it does for British MOD PR. So, Omega's EARNED it.

    A great video Adrian. Love the changes you made. I have thought for some time now that Omega's flagship seamaster should inherit the classic case shape from their 60's divers. (Like the speedmaster case) Add a ceramic dial and lumed bezel both in matte. A tapering bracelet and their 8000 series movements. And you have a timeless design with enough oomph to take on the Submariner.

    In all seriousness, I actually do think the James Bond connection works for Omega. Who cares if he's a fictional character? Brosnan and Craig are real world people. And J H is absolutely right. The connection isn't so much to a fictional section of the SIS, but to the style and personality our protagonist is supposed to portray. I think it's an extremely well done special edition. I fully agree with your bracelet concerns. On the other hand I'm fully for making a 007 watch, as it is actually a part of the movies. James Bond is a realistic fictional character set in our world who wears not some kind of a fictional watch but an actual Omega. It's different from creating a Harry Potter watch as you would have nothing to work with in the beginning. He "lives" in a completely different universe, so saying he woud wear a Tudor or sth would be quite silly

    That lovely bracelet is now available in three sizes; S,M,L - in both titanium or stainless steel, so it's compatible with pretty much every modern Omega. Also comes in 19, 20, 21, 22 lug width.

    I just bought one with the Titanium bracelet. I wanted a quality watch that's not to flashy and this one crosses all boxes especially with the dark face. Just love it. So light it almost feels cheap. My every day piece is a Sjøø Sandstrøm UTC Skydiver, that I love, but I might have to replace that one now.

    I‘d buy the SMP envisioned in your video. Omega did some things in this piece I’d like to see in the next steel models: slightly slimmer profile, domed sapphire, lumed bezel (I wonder whether they could do it in ceramic), and they replaced the boring and dated looking bracelet of the standard models with at least something else.

    I just got this watch and honestly I love it. I am no Bonds fan and the clasp and bracelet do create small issues as a guy having a small wrist (thanks for pointing it out) so I did try it out fully with the clasp closed at the AD but decided to take the risk. I do have a couple of IWCs and GS and was afraid that this watch may not get any wrist time in the end. For this particular watch, the design elements including the fake patina, lightness, and no date work quiet well converging together in this one piece. I am hoping that Omega will learn from this and incorporate some of the pros into their main production line as this Seamaster will be an odd one albeit a very lovely one. While the Bond connection might be viewed by some as a gimmick (yes it is) it allows Omega to experiment freely and in this case I shall say it is a success.

    Just went to their boutique and tried this on , your comment around the fit of the bracelet was spot on as my wrist is also on the smaller end at 15cm. However , the AD mentioned you can be buying the nato version and order an extra titanium bracket at shorter length , both side 1cm shorter , that should help increase the fit but unfortunately they don’t have a sample for customers to try on ( you need to pay hkd $11500 to order that extra Milanese strap)

    Just purchased the watch and in the store the band did feel awkward since i have small wrist, but within 24hrs and findings the right setting the watch felt like i was wearing a nato strap. It doesn't stick out more than having the nato strap folding over or if you have a leather or rubber band with a closing clasp. It's great watch that is already valued higher on the "pre-loved" market than buying it store, so I think it's a great investment all around.

    Took the plunge and got a Seamaster last year because it seemed to god a price to turn down. Bought the Black Black Ceramic model and whilst I love it, it's really tricky to tell the time in poor light. A safer bet would have been the White dial one you have here a it seems timeless. I tired this Titanium model and loved it but I think long term, the white dial would have been a keeper. Great video, lot of takeaways as always.

    I went hands on with this watch last week and found the bezel had a noticeable amount of wiggle to it, both in the clockwise direction and side to side. I agree it’s a great looker. In fact I think it’s one of the best dial/bezel combos they make. But that helium valve is like a cold sore on the Mona Lisa. Just looks crap and how many people are ever going to the depths to need it. As for the ridiculous clasp, it will still look nice where most watches will live , on display or in a safe. I’m a bit of a omega fan but with all the product placement design led tat creeping into their watches I fear they’re in danger of becoming a bit naff.

    Great review, Adrian! I agree with your proposed version of the timeless Seamaster diver. Actually, that's why I chose the older version of the Seamaster diver -- the one with the co-axial 2500 movement. I like the dial without the waves and the much smaller helium escape valve. Just need the lumed bezel! But I echo your hopes that Omega will continue to refine this watch to find that design that lasts for generations. I, too, echo your thoughts about the Bond connection: sort of cheesy, but do love the watch design. Would love to see Omega promote the SAS connection the way Tudor has with the U.S. Navy divers, UDTs, and SEAL Teams.
