      A great skater tried to coach me at the skatepark a couple of years ago. He told me "move your feet where you want the board to go". I could not process it when he said it, because it didn't make any sense to me. After watching a lot of Mitchie's videos I - very slowly - start to get what he meant...

    Im 40 years old and have been skateboarding heavily since probably the age of 13 . I never forget being young and asking an older skateboarder how to do a certain trick and his exact words were " figure it out , no one fucking taught me " 😂 take notes kids cause this is a blessing having this man brake down tricks for you .

    Mitchie, you're videos have changed the way I skate. Disclaimer, I'm a year into skating, so I can't pull-off the hardflips and full cabs and all the amazing tricks you're doing in this video, but the way you explain your thinking and how to approach a trick is revolutionary. Well to me at least. I can't thank you enough. Since watching your video on 180s, I've improved my 180s and halfcabs so much. And just like all of your videos. I have learned something that has profoundly impacted the way I approach things in every single video of yours I've watched. So just, thank you. Thank you so much for sharing you knowledge and experience and for taking the time to make all these videos. Your way of teaching is so sincere. There's no pretence or 'look at how good I am'. And also, massive shouout to the filmers and editors as well! I can only imagine it must be a monumental task to go through hours and hours of footage and compile it into something like this that gives so much value.

    12:30 - great advice. there's so many ways to fail at a trick, and the more ways you discover to fail a trick, the more ways you learn how to correct it. i find it to be way better to fail at a trick 1000 different ways and know the fix for it, than to always land it for years, and then when i need it the most, there's a problem with it and i don't know how to fix it.

    It's interesting to hear that you keep on learning from / experimenting with kickflips, even though you've done them for 23 years. I thought it was more of a "muscle memory" thing, where you're just executing a kickflip with no thought about how to do them or how they feel on a particular day.

As soon as i implemented a warm up focusing on the basics i have seen insanely fast improvement and so much new insight. I completely agree with what you said. Its easy to get stuck in the mindset of "oh im gonna have a bad session" if you run into roadblocks but by easing into the session ive been able to make every session count

    I love breaking down tricks into the basis of movements, pressure, and leverage created with vectors of movement against momentum and pressure. Its hard to begin visualizing things like that, and then needs a fundamental level to begin applying the movements with your own body actually to tricks in real time. But a personal win was figuring out how to do bs flips out of front boards, by getting that if I pinch the the heel side to the rail whilst sliding, I can pop on the toe side of my tail, and make the heel side where you flick out for a kickflip pop up higher on the nose. It was all about getting that pressure, then using the slide moving closer to the back trucks to get a solid pop, and by popping with my back toes having the corner you flick popping up, so you flick through it and get a lift you can use to catch the board and put it down rotating to fakie. I had one where I slid 3/4s of the rail, flipped over the last quarter and rode away less than a meter before stepping off as it rode into a divot. That crusty ground was my bane, I was so robbed, after drilling it for 45m or so all on the first day I was really trying it and got the thought as to how to do it. Then I finally landed and stayed on a sketchy one. One of the best guys, local legends, was around and watching, saw both the near make with perfect style and execution, and the actual make, and told lads. Was getting approached at the skatepark and given props by word of mouth randomly by pretty good skaters on some of the local shops and teams, as well as plenty of normal local lads for a few weeks after. Bloody shame I got injured badly less than 2 months after, that really drew an end to that period from 16-18 I was at my best basically. I got up near that level again, but never fully there. Front blunts down, hardflips and inwards, front noseblunt, bs board flip to fakie, bs flip disaster on quarters. Damn, miss that level of tricks.

  • @strings31
    @strings31 2 місяці тому

    What you said during the noseslide part about trying hard or giving 100% on all tricks is so key! It’s a little exhausting but what a difference it makes in consistency and not slamming. I see people struggling to land something and it’s obvious they are pulling their punches. I’m guilty too. I think it looks effortless when done right so there’s an assumption of doing it lazy.

    @Titanius_Anglesmith 2 місяці тому

    Great info here. The hardflip and full cab flip especially. What I noticed with your impossible is you need to counterbalance front and back feet. The backfoot should sit in the dip between your tail and the bolts with some toe hanging off. The front foot mostly needs to get out of the way so near the front bolts with less foot on the board than a kickflip. The thing most people struggle with and why they often look like a 3 shuv is that after you’ve initiated the board rolling over your foot you have to follow all the way through and bring it BACK to where you started. Frequently, after the board rolls over the foot people are ready to land on the board. It will work that way but now the boards momentum is finishing the rotation instead of you directing it by bringing your foot back to a wide stance.

    35:49 😮Yo, that snicker was diabolical. 😅 I mean… I also laughed a little; but I’m not the one filming you, claiming to be your friend.
    Message to the cameraman: You got a lot of nerve and I like your style.😂
    -“do it like this if you want to skate like me”
    - proceeds to eat it.
    - walks towards his board in complete shame.

      @@Skateiq I watched it... it's an awesome video, but no "invert" though. Any inverted trick would be nice: invert, handplant, layback air, eggplant, andrecht, etc.

    years ago when i was learning bs back foot flips out the ramp, i didn't expect to catch it so easy and was leaning way to far forward. so my board shot backwards and i fell pretty much dived head first into the ramp lol. if i didn't manage to roll out with my arms, i would have ate some serious s****!

    I never understood how the concept of riding switch could ever be introduced in skateboarding. It feels insanely dificult to even think of it. It's like adding a very dificult layer to already very dificult sport. Just imagine you are right handed and now you need to use your left hand instead for the same activity. It feels completely unnatural. Yet, switch is real in skateboarding and many pro skaters are the switch masters. It blows my mind.
