  • Stevie Ray Vaughan & Stevie Wonder & Jody Watley perform two songs together in a television special broadcast 4-27-88, with guests on one song including Salt 'n' Pepa, Prince bassist Brown Mark, etc. The BetaGems channel also has "Stevie Wonder 1-19-97 primetime TV performance," "2002 Stevie Wonder Christmas at Target TV commercial," "1989 Stevie Wonder Kodak batteries TV commercial," "Stevie Wonder 1-3-70 daytime TV performance," "Stevie Wonder 4-27-88 three songs TV performance," "Stevie Wonder & Jody Watley 4-27-88 TV performance," "Stevie Wonder 4-28-65 TV performance," "Stevie Wonder & Ray Charles 10-10-91 TV performance," "Longlost Music Video: Stevie Wonder Don't Drive Drunk 1984," "BB King April 1988 New Orleans w/Little Feat, Los Lobos, Stevie Ray Vaughan," "Stevie Ray Vaughan 7-10-89 outdoor television performance," "Night Music 9-30-89 Stevie Ray Vaughan, Van Dyke Parks, Maria McKee," and "BB King with Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Stevie Ray, Albert King 4-15-87."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from the early 1980s into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on UA-cam or online.
Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads. In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

This is just amazing! How special is this? Turn it up as loud as you can stand it. It's a celebration of life as much as anything. Be as superstitious as you want, you won't surpass this cosmic mix.

@@meekrob The entire rhythm track is recorded. Brown Mark is not playing what we hear.

Never heard this. Very cool, but there's no way the bass player is playing that track while dancing around like that. In fact, you can see he's not playing the same thing in spots. I've seen live Prince videos with guitar overdubs. Naive fans actually think he could play well while doing complex dance moves. It's just not possible. I think Madonna did that too. Gotta breath while dancing hard. Singing well has to be sacrificed, but I think she tried it on stage when she was young and quickly learned she had to do otherwise. Looks like SRV is actually playing what we hear, and the rest are singing to a recorded track.
