Is that "Interframe Blending" like a "motion blur emulator" for game boy games? I'm about to get an original RG35XX, and I really wanted to know if I can get a very close representation of a game boy screen.
Yes, that is a good way to put it. Interframe blending is trying to emulate the motion blur that the original screen had and you will want to enable it.
GB Colorization is not initiating the custom setting when selected, even with perfect overlays installed in the archive manager. have any ideas? I have another device where everything worked perfectly and cannot get the setting to stick.
Do you remember changing the Retroarch setting that points to where the bios are located? That's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. The file that the Custom setting looks for is in the bios/palletes folder.
Someone knows if it's possible to install this on retro arena build for the RG ARC? If it is, please tell me how. I know they are working in a muOS build for the ARC, but we don't know when will drop or if they will end up dropping the project.
Miyoo mini plus is 640 by 480 though right? Did you mean the miyoo mini V4 will not work with perfect overlays? Because it has different pixel structure?
You are right that the MMP is 640 x 480 but for some reason the MMP display is off centered by 2 pixels which messes up the grids. The original releases of these Perfect Overlays by 1PlayerInsertCoin are for the MMP, so those can be used on it. However the ones in this pack have been adjusted to correct this pixel issue to work on other devices and not the MMP.
@@PhyrexTechs Gosh I'm so glad I found you I really enjoy and appreciate your presentations. Thank you for being clear! So if I'm understanding I should download this pack for my SP and leave my Mini Plus with its initial "Perfect" overlays alone? They do look very, very good!

This was a very nice relaxing video. Very informative. I have used overlays and filters myself in the past, and I probably have some devices laying around with those things enabled, but lately I've been avoiding those things, and have just been using stock for the clearest image possible. For me personally, it feels like a step backwards to go from having a crystal clear IPS or OLED screen to an inferior dot matrix screen with displeasing green shades for Game Boy. I still have my original Game Boy, bought in 1989, in perfect condition, and I always hated having to find the right light source. It's horrible and strains these old eyes. It's 2024 now, so I use today's improved technology to my advantage. Heck, even my original Game Boy Advance, bought in 2001, that I still have in perfect condition, had the same issue with trying to find the right light source. 😅
I can 100% understand your point of view and respect it. I guess for me it has something to do wanting to play the games as I remember them, and as I don't own the original hardware I jump through these hoops to get there. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your take on it.
I did exactly what the video says. Even download the files on the link provided. But can't find 1playerinsertcoin folder on the overlay. Can someone help.
Make sure you are not using the (no frame) ones as they will not have the rounded corners. Also the generic CRT overlay rounded corners are very subtle compared to SNES ones which are very exaggerated.
Anyone else have an issue where, specifically with Playstation, the perfect shader has the right half of the screen blinking black? If I turn the shader off, but keep the video filter and overlay, it's fine. Doesn't happen on the other consoles.
Have not seen that before. Which GBA core are you using? And when you select Aspect Ratio is Custom just missing from the list or does something happen when you select it?
Thanks a lot for this guide! I love these overlays, but wish I could make a slight adjustment to them. The SP ones for GBA have a shadow that looks brown on my screen. The regular ones have a perfect shadow, but I don't like the GBA logo it has. Could I just open these up in Photoshop and copy the SP logo to the default one? Or is there some software I should use for this?
The major difference between overlays and shaders is the resource cost. Overlays use virtually no resources as it's just a static image being overlaid onto game image. While shaders can vary from lightweight to resource hogs as they are processing their changes on each frame. There are some nice looking shaders but I like the look of these more and it being less resource taxing is a nice bonus.
All of this worked perfectly, until upon booting it up the next day and none of the overlays were visible. All the correct settings and files were selected but there was just blank screen space. Any ideas on what has gone wrong?
Have not heard of that issue before. You could try to reinstall the files again from the archive manager just to make sure nothing happened with the files.
@@PhyrexTechs all sorted! turns out it was to do with saving the core override. both GB and GBC use the same core so it's important to only save the content directory override.

I just double checked mine and do not see this issue. What device are you using? Is this on a specific CRT overlay or on all of them? Also, what core are you running?
OK, so I just tried it on my side with Robocop 3 and I see what you are talking about. This is not an issue with the overlays, but because a lot of NES games can have underscan/overscan issues. Some games have odd values that don't align with most other games but there is a way to fix it. While running Robocop 3 Open the Retroarch menu Go to Core Options Set: Crop Horizontal Left Overscan : 8 Crop Vertical Bottom Overscan: 12 Then go to Manage Core Options and select Save Game Options so it will save this for Robocop 3 only. Other games you notice with this issue might need different settings. All you have to do is increase or decrease the crop overscan settings until the picture looks correct and then save it for just that game.
What device and system are you trying. You may need to go to retroarch settings > video > scaling. Change the aspect ratio to something else then back to: core provided. Or turn integer scaling on then turn it off again.
