I've been working on FX in 3D for a long time now, and seeing something like this recreated entirely in 2D is wild. You guys pulled it off though, looks great!
@bilbonapkins1473I don't think Villeneuve was downloading Dune assets from the Internet. /s His team was creating them from scratch. They could've turned out to be utter garbage. It's completely different from copying something that already exists.
Strange comment to put for a channel that teaches vfx skills to artists that don't have the means and resources of a large studio ..it's kind of their thing. Besides, the original team used different methods for the explosion (Houdini explosion simulations), while Film Riot is teaching how to get similar results with commercially accessible assets, prosumer level software, etc.
Dang brothers. I just received this notification after a long time of not getting them. I KNOW life gets in the way of content making but I've been getting the shakes. Good to see yall back.
Great that you are doing shots like this!! Having worked with a couple of the teams who made DUNE 2 on previous projects, I can give you a few pointers. 1. Match your black levels (you seem to be doing an okay job on this, but really make sure you tech check your by slamming up the gamma). 2. Refine your edges, especially around the hair, using a separate roto for the hair if necessary. Light bloom around edges can be enhanced by Frischluft Lenscare Out of Focus plugin in After Effects, or the Convolve, ZDefocus, or pgBokeh in Nuke. Nuke is hard, pgBokeh is hard. Learn them. 3. Your greenscreen is lit unevenly. That's par for the course. Learn how to do an IBK stack in Nuke or combine multiple keys in After Effects: One for the darker parts of the greenscreen, one for the lighter parts, one for the hair. Get that perfect Alpha Matte!! 4. Either focus on the foreground or the background, but not both at the same time. If you want both in one shot, you will have to rack focus. 5. Remember to take breaks and drink water. You are awesome, no matter how much this version of the shot needs work, the next version can be better!!
Honest to god this is the only UA-cam channel where I actually look forward to and watch through the entire ad. They’re deadass funny and I still know what the ad the ad is about. Absolutely awesome, hilarious stuff 😂
And to think that in less than 5 years people will gaze at our profession as obsolete with cinematic AI tools combined with 3D environment. Hollywood on everyone's desktop in one click. 😢
I love Luma and Color Curves, because of the flexibility and yes, the masking to control where you see the smoke and then to move and rotate it, its beautiful. Nice work, also at the dense effect. You speed it up to show us, but those who know, they know, how long it takes haha
If you can, could you do a tutorial on how to do The Flash movie super speed effect. I think it would be super helpful to people and also I feel like if you guys did it, it would look better than the actual movie. Please and thank you 😃
Quick tip: With Generative Fill, just leave the prompt blank to remove things without generating “weird little guys”. Though I can’t see why you wouldn’t want one of those in your shot.
I'm watching this late at night and for some reason Ryan's "Jeanky as FK* statement hit me just right. Had to stop dyin' before I could watch the rest. This tutorial in nothing short of continual amazement!!
amazing , but when the explosion happened and flashed that very bright light on his face , i think it looks fake cuz it flashed on his left side like the sun, while he was facing the explosion directly
My therapist has recommended this to me. She said you wont be able to follow along ( he goes to quick ) and so help me to combat my addiction to After Effects
Can you create a tutorial on new Loki season 2. Spaghettification effect. I think we can do it by CC Hair to begin with but I'm not able to figure it out however 😅
LOL, the opening close-up shows that the "overexposed" effect was created by lighting the subject's face from the side!! when in the wide shot, the explosion (the presumed source of the "overexposing" effect) is CLEARLY front and center... PU LU IS...!!!!!! otherwise, the colour correcting and framing are PERFECT!
Video idea, Film Riot: Create a Corridor Digital-type video where someone recreates a VFX shot from whichever movie, but have one person use AE and the other person use Blackmagic Fusion. The internet will thank you for it... Trust me. I'm an internet rando 👍
I really love your videos and you always manage to knock it out of the park. And today's was nothing different. But for the first shot, Justin and the background seem like they do not belong in the same scene. It's not the case when the light flashed over him and the silhouette shot, where the entire scene was congruent and I couldn't tell each apart.
Action VFX is a big pricier than your store. Glad you kept $$$ down on the costume, but what did you spend on stock footage? Great video! The effect is fantastic!
Amazing work guys!! Only wish you mimicked the halation around the dude in the original shot- the fire closest to his out of focus edges is more vibrant/less exposed because the contrast between light source and dark silhouette creates camera artifacting
Awesome to see yall back I was about to send out a search party for you all . Almost a month with no content, don’t ever ever ever ever ever do that again please .

The presets from Action VFX are not precisely created in 2D
@@arieldario3849 a lot of them are real fotography
@@arieldario3849 It's still 2D though. they only used pictures and videos, which are 2D.
Imagine not having a perfectly completed reference to copy and having to create this scene from scratch.
would require crazy amount of work
@@christianthea1059 Exactly. Much easier to copy than create.
This is just a demo. They will only get better from here.

GUYS. This was amazing!
Film Riot is the only channel whose sponsor ads I don't skip over.
Genuinely, I laughed more at this sponsor section than a lot of actual comedy videos
corridor crew also does some pretty funny ones aw
@@mattersondoom they are not the same. they beg to be skipped, while these you dont want to skip at all
I don't want to skip any 😂😂😂

This kind of videos grew my interest in filmmaking years ago.
Good to be back!
Honest to god this is the only UA-cam channel where I actually look forward to and watch through the entire ad. They’re deadass funny and I still know what the ad the ad is about. Absolutely awesome, hilarious stuff 😂
As always, delivering the highest level of innovation and professionalism with minimal resources. You guys rock.
I used to watch you guys in 2009 as a young filmmaker. So happy to see you're still making amazing content!
Dude, that’s just sick. You guys are so talented, it’s ridiculous. Hats off to you.
Yes!!! This is why i subscribed to film riot in the beginning❤
And to think that in less than 5 years people will gaze at our profession as obsolete with cinematic AI tools combined with 3D environment. Hollywood on everyone's desktop in one click. 😢

Wow that shot turned out incredible!
Also I've never wanted to watch a sponsor segement twice until now
Remember recreation is easier than creating from scratch
at 17:23 the see you later gave me goosebumps the voice is from beyond the grave.
What a awesome presentation 😄 The end result is "WOW" 😁
Can we use all the plug-ins in one video please?
Film Riot: Hold my beer.
The ad in the middle was the best part of it! Loved that.
“…can you say that all again in Spanish?” 😂
wow this is really good, amazing how good it looks without doing simulations, this reminds me of your old videos, make more like this.
Oh my gosh. You did an INCREDIBLE job. I would say it possibly even looks better than the original!👏
this is my endorphine fix for the day
Thank you guys!
cool showing love to the editor and VFX artist
Thanks for including costume cosplay techniques.
Cmike from Corridor here, great beefy breakdown!! Super satisfying shot!
Film Riot walked so Dune could run.
You: a Gary - Displacement
Me: an intellectual - Turbulent Displacement
that sphere thing was genius
And still... The best! At filmaking and... ads making :) love you long time!
Big respect to your tough work and amazing result
ahhhh dopamine hits💖💖💖💖💖💖
This is amazing!
forgot the blue eyes...
WISH I HAD EVEN A QUARTER OF THIS GUYS TALENT.
Ryan Thompson is king 🫡
👑
that was sick my guys!!

pls do a video or comment about film riot's all after effcts plugins and scripts etc.... after effects items pls comments all
Freakin NAILED IT!!!!!
Just realized that anakin is Bad Paul remake in star wars
me : downloading all the assets at the begining & also me at the end ....: let me try it some other day
Quick tip: With Generative Fill, just leave the prompt blank to remove things without generating “weird little guys”. Though I can’t see why you wouldn’t want one of those in your shot.
i tried to copy this using ur technique. After ten seconds i fell down into the fetal position and began sucking my thumb. You guys are awesome!!
Wow , you guys pulled off . congrats

That's Another Epic work ❤
Wow awesome and detailed ❤
Es ist immer wieder toll und unglaublich, was ihr auf die Beine stellt.
And the Oscar Goes To YOU!
You guys are the UNIVERSE from VFX
Absolutely brilliant 10/10.... but... can you do Justin riding the sandworm?
This was a masterclass
who got the notification and quickly opened.... misssed u guys.
Hey, it's been a while! Great video as always :) Say hi to Gary.
SERIOUSLY i'm just interest in HOW DID YOU MAKE THE dune: part two INTRO at 00:08????????????
OMFG! and I mean that in the best way possible!
Damn that was insane !
The guy part is good but the explosion and everything else is amazing!
I can almost see Ryan reading all this with all the names and wondering what the hell it's going on! 🤣🤣🤣
You guys are F***ing awesome 💯
They are so good! If you like VFX and filmmaking you may enjoy our channel as well.
Wow... this is truly amazing!
that ad was dope
The only one thing I hate about the new Dune movies - the monotone color grading.
amazing , but when the explosion happened and flashed that very bright light on his face , i think it looks fake cuz it flashed on his left side like the sun, while he was facing the explosion directly
My therapist has recommended this to me. She said you wont be able to follow along ( he goes to quick ) and so help me to combat my addiction to After Effects
What it is also selling is the sound effects because god damn that was beautiful.
I have absolutely no idea of 99% of what you said but the effect looked fantastic. :-)
Can you create a tutorial on new Loki season 2. Spaghettification effect. I think we can do it by CC Hair to begin with but I'm not able to figure it out however 😅
Riot Film! You are incredible!
Nice job guys!
POV : Film Riot Back In the Race

can you recreate that really bad part from Megamind 2? Oh wait, that's the whole film
make a film again!!! It's been years!!
Damn...
Just amazing
THIS IS CRAZYYYYYYY
Fantastic!
Extremely well done!
Whenever I hear the words "After Effects" I get teal flashbacks to that TF2 meme. It goes "that thing, it scares me".

I see you used the second version of the explosion shown in the different trailers.
I really love your videos and you always manage to knock it out of the park. And today's was nothing different. The best Channel 🔥🔥
Looking Awesome
So cool!
Action VFX is a big pricier than your store. Glad you kept $$$ down on the costume, but what did you spend on stock footage? Great video! The effect is fantastic!
AS IT WAS WRITTEN
I love you guys comedy. LOL
Amazing work guys!! Only wish you mimicked the halation around the dude in the original shot- the fire closest to his out of focus edges is more vibrant/less exposed because the contrast between light source and dark silhouette creates camera artifacting
You forgot to add the blue eyes.
can you create a visual effect of openhaimer too? 😅
Is it the same to do the image tuning directly in photoshop instead or after effects?
Waiting for the whole movie now 😎
Outta control 🤯
i like this, but i also think it's the opposite way independent filmmakers should be thinking
On foreground is light source on the left side and on the dust passes is on the right...
Great sense of humor!! lol
Awesome to see yall back I was about to send out a search party for you all . Almost a month with no content, don’t ever ever ever ever ever do that again please .
