Dear nerds, please do me a solid and (in case you haven't yet), *like and subscribe.* ❤
Also, let me know if I should do more opinion pieces like these. It's very conversational and very subjective. I need to know whether or not you like me throwing my opinion out there like this. :)

Finally! Someone said it! I know my friends always say "Nintendo consoles are not supposed to be super powerful" but also they are not supposed to be overpriced tablets either. Also, the ONE THING that kept me from buying a Switch is still here: Ergonomics. And just making it bigger wont solve the issue.

Also, if my Steam Deck is capable of emulating it, it will be the last nail in the proverbial coffin. Probably not, but if it does, that would be embarrassing.

Also, one thing. I am a supporter of most things from LTT (yes. I know, they are not perfect, but they seem to be genuine on their support of the consumer and criticism of Nintendo), but I was surprised that even they (Linus and Luke at the WAN Show) were salivating at the announcement without any shred of scepticism. Them of all people.

Yeah, ergonomics make split pads like mobapad 6 mandatory.
And I'd say that there is very low chance that a good emulator will be created in next 2 years and zero chance that it will run good on Deck.

They were too busy suing everyone to give the Switch 2 a second thought.

I think at this point the console's power doesn't matter. I'm not excited about this, nor am I a Nintendo fan. But if you could play current gen games here on the switch 2...
Imagine playing elden ring,. street fighter 6 without denuvo or any bullsh*t DRM's. Every game just works out of the box. You don't have to wonder or check if a game is steamdeck verified. You dont have to fiddle with any settings. Every games is what it is when it is announced on switch 2.
And this is next part is just my own personal opinion that I dont think anyone shares...
I think we've seen the last of games. Atleast the games worth playing.
There are no more games that will be worth playing in the next 5-10 years. Publishers will continue to make games with exessive graphics that will require $800 devices to run. More if you want it portable.
If I could play just the current gen games on this, I think I will be fine.
That's why I think Nintendo's not the least bit worried about the switch 2's power.
Love you content Vlad. Agree or disagree, I think you have one of the most unique voice in the handheld space. Please don't stop making videos.

Agreed. Nintendo is first and foremost a game selling company and not a hardware company. If New Mario / Zelda / Pokemon / 1st party games are good, Switch 2 will sell like hot cakes. And as long as they continue to support 3rd party games, other developer will port the latest games to Switch 2 even if they are graphically degraded.
Plus a bonus, as long as Switch emulation improves, we will probably see Elden Ring being emulated on a cellphone chip in a few years 😂

The thing is.. I don't ever care about mario or zelda. or any first party nintendo.
remember back in the switch, no one could've imagine that we'll be playing witcher 3 or dark soul portably. granted there's a bit of graphical down grade. but those where home console games! ON A HANDHELD!
I want that, but for this generation.
PS. I know the gpd win 1 exists back then. I'm a talking about a mainstream console that everyone can just pickup and play.
Also, elden ring on mobile Hahaha
      just imagine

I give it a week, before it's jailbroken too, someone will find a new area, as the joycon pins arent available, cause im guessing theyre still using a similar circuitboard layout.... it's disappointing not seeing a new design system, I am looking forward to see if its power equivalent to a ps4..

The Switch 2 couldn’t have been launched years ago because it would have been a minor increase in performance.
Nintendo doesn’t sell their consoles at a loss. This is a risk management thing for them. They use older chipsets that aren’t super expensive and they require something with enough efficiency for a handheld. This limits them tremendously.
As for the 30-50$ increase, it’s a huge problem for them. Firstly, the better chip costs THEM that much - it means it would translate to more for the customer (usually about 3X). If they can’t bring this in at a low enough pricepoint, it dooms the console. They have already been struggling to get this under $500. Over $500, few people buy it.
Remember, “cheap Chinese controllers” are built with “cheap Chinese build quality.” Nintendo products seemingly last forever. Nintendo is getting customized versions of chips, screens, etc. that those small Chinese companies could never use.
This is all about maximizing value in each choice made.

Go look at starting prices for Chinese Android tablets like Odin Portal 2 - they manage to get modern chips, OLED displays and premium materials with starting prices under 400$.
And you expect us to believe that Nintendo can't get comparable hardware for cheaper, with economy of scale on their side?
You are one delusional fanboy who is happy to pay 2 times the price of outdated low quality hardware for the sake of "poor billion dollar corporation".

      @Cujobob 3 години тому +3

@@baka_ja_nai I own a Portal (just came in yesterday). The Portal is using the 880 Gen 2, a screen that was made for another manufacturer that they could get in bulk that hasn’t been optimized, doesn’t include a dock, doesn’t have removable controls, doesn’t take Switch games, doesn’t have 12GB memory in base config, and can’t use DLSS AFAIK. The Switch 2 also uses Micro SD Express which can provide speeds up to 880 MB/sec.
We don’t know how their processor compares yet.
Keep in mind the difference in product quality. The Odin 2 famously had battery issues where the batteries would become spicy pillows. The support for that was nonexistent, they asked you to ship the handheld back to China. Meanwhile, you can pick up a Nintendo 3DS today and be confident it still works.

Never been excited by the Switch and the Switch 2 hasn't changed things. The ergonomics never did it for me.
At this point, I am far more interested in SteamOS on the Lenovo Legion Go S.

The pessimistic attitude is Nintendo fans seeing a lack of backwards compatibility in the past with other consoles and a lack of innovation from other companies. We want that childlike wonder and excitement again, but will we ever get it?

The reason why you can't understand why they couldn't do a better design is because Japan (not nintendo because they are part of Japan) has given up. They don't care what the rest of the world has to say and do things the way they want. Old people rule Japan so it makes sense that an 8 year old console wont get many big improvements. Younger designers have no say and have to follow what their senpais want to do.

In my opinion, Nintendo is first and foremost a game selling company not a hardware selling company. As long as they continue to make good Mario / Zelda other popular 1st party games and contine to support 3rd party developer, Switch 2 will sell like hot cakes.
3rd party will continue to port their AAA games to Switch even if it means downgrading the graphics as the profit margin is much higher than other platforms (PC / Xbox / PS). With the 5-10 years game development cycle for AAA games these days, as long as the current gen best sellers (balders gate 3, elden ring, cyberpunk 2077, read dead redemption 2, GTA 5 or maybe even 6 etc) gets ported, most casual gamers will be pretty happy to be able to play these games on the go (and pay the Nintendo full price).
And these downgraded ports (some call them impossible port) means we may be able to play Elden Ring emulated on a cellphone android chip in a few years as long as Switch emulation continues to improve (fingers crossed!)

Not to mention it's not even 1080p.... somehow we are still stuck on 720p.....it's 2025 Nintendo get with the times, I've seen Chinese handheld emulators handling 1080p just fine and mind you, much much weaker than the OG switch.....there isn't even OLED are you serious Nintendo (SMH)
