  • Hello Everyone, in this episode of the build I demonstrate how to install the AEM wideband failsafe gauge. This is a combination gauge for Air Fuel Ratio (AFR) and Boost Pressure. Please see all relevant links below and as always if you have any questions about the install don't hesitate to ask.

    I feel that your demonstration/how to is leagues above many that are out there. You are thorough, yet you don't beat it to death. Your editing shows that you put forth a respectable effort, and the end result is superb. Much respect..... Subscribed. Thank you.

    Hello Alex! El diplay de mi AEM no funciona... si la wideband de leds...
    Pueder ser porque conecte el grey wire a 12 v??? O simplemente compre fallado el reloj? Tendra arreglo?

    So on the page following the wiring diagram it discusses the pins on the connectors, and in states the brown wire, if not being used with an ems data logger should be connected with ground for best gauge readings. Wondering how true that is?

  • @NickEnglishPhotography1

    Would this gauge work with just 12v connection and ground wiring? I have an existing boost gauge which I'd love to replace with this and not need any additional wiring splices. Currently it's got a yellow 12v and black GND connection.
    Obviously I'd need vacuum and lambda too... But purely from a powering on point of view, would that work?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  5 років тому

      Sorry for the delayed response. It should work. Just make sure your 12V source is a switched IGN source. Also, you may have lights on the gauge but will not be able to control the brightness of the gauge.

    Just wondering where did you tap your safe wire to?

    Is there a way to use the failsafe ground without a datalogger? I've seen examples where if your AFR exceeds your high side limit, it will cut your ignition and shut off the engine which is something im looking to do.

      @AlexFranceschi  3 роки тому

      I haven't looked into this to be honest. However, you need some form of feedback or control into the ECU. Either via a stand alone ECU or something like an AFR controller that can do this. I can only monitor my AFRs with this gauge and it's up to me to make sure my fuel system is designed to supply enough fuel and if I see things going bad I have to manually kill the engine. My setup is very conservative though, so I am not too worried about this. One day I'll go stand alone but for now I'm still OEM.

    Nice, video Alex. Wondering does the faceplate light up. When you hook up the grey wire to the dimmer? Just curious.

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  6 років тому

      David Vang sorry for the delayed response. I had a busy weekend. The faceplate itself doesn't have a backlight. The lights that adjust brightness are the center number display and the bar display. Unfortunately the faceplate numbers don't light up. Hope that helps!

      That's correct, if you go to the 4 min mark you'll see the before and after wiring diagram. If I had an aftermarket ECM/ECU and could actually use them I would.

    Hey! I know this video is a little old I am running a megasquirt ecu in my Datsun and it requires a 0v-5v input from the gauge this would be the white wire on AEM correct?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  Рік тому

      Sorry, it's been ages since I've looked at the diagram but that does sound right, just double check and don't hesitate to contact AEM for more help. The gauge has an output for stand-alones like yours.

    Does it have an led light at night to see the boost gauge? Several say that is its main flaw you cant see it during night driving.

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  4 роки тому +1

      It lights up at night, no problem at all. I can't recall off the top off my head if the white numbers light up, but I have the gauge programmed so it turns from green to yellow to red if the boost gets too high. So, it doesn't matter anyway.

    Can you drive with the AEM UEGO gauge without installing the o2 sensor?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  6 років тому

      Sure, you could, but you would not be able to read the AFRs.

    • @Hygoog
      @Hygoog 6 років тому

      Oh ok. I just need it to get hooked up right now until I get my turbo downpipe installed. Would it be a lot easier if you just use circuit holder connectors instead of splicing into your harness?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  6 років тому

      Whichever method you find easier. I by no means used anything fancy. Just the fact i had some splice connectors on hand when i installed it. You should at least be able to hook everything up, even the wideband outside of the downpipe just to make sure the system is working and communicating.

    What does wiring up to “rpm” do?
    What function does that serve?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  Рік тому

      That's to monitor the engine's Rotations Per Minute (RPM), that gauge can monitor/record it.

  • @HRenteriaRenteria

    Any idea on why mine reads eugo sensor off line?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  5 років тому

      No idea, hard to diagnose such things online, but I would refer to the user manual, double check all connections, and insure you have the software with appropriate drivers installed. Good luck!

      Sorry for the delay, yes you should be able to change the center display for boost, it comes with additional faceplates. The dimmer does help at night but it's not that bright as-is tbh.

    Hello, I was wondering what angle kit are you running?

    • @AlexFranceschi
      @AlexFranceschi  6 років тому

      Jose Carmona I'm running JTPs Hotline knuckles. I don't think he makes them anymore, but I've had these for ages. There are other companies who have some angle kits but if you don't want to buy knuckles you could go with Mazdatrix rack spacers and tie rod ends.
