This is probably a much better solution than the Land Rover one! Making a new spare wheel centre cap that duplicates as the quick release would be the icing on the cake for this wonderful solution. Brilliant idea!!
Nice design, with regards to the quick release I would recommend adding a standoff pipe to move the quick release to be the same depth as the wheel sits.
Might be a less pretty solution, but you could jimmy up an center cap adapter that's actually a female connection point to the ARB, that way you don't have to fish it through (put the coupler on the center cap, feed in like 5-6 inches of additional hose so when you have to take the wheel off you can have some slack to the compressor). I think that'd be a pretty slick connection point on the actual wheel.
So a few months later how is it running? Much better than inside the boot. I have had a ARB single under the hood of our jeep for 13+ years now and it has been flawless. I am a little skeptical of it sitting outside in the TX heat all year around but love the out of the way, wasted space solution. Please post a follow up soon.
Hi Simon, Happy New Year, firstly theres no fitting link at 1.45, and just a thought maybe find a stand off extension for the air connector to bring it out level with the wheel mount, to make it easier to reach.
Epic idea Never understood why you would buy the LR compressor over the twin arb Probably would have the 1gallon tank as well But obviously not on the defender I’d have it on my disco 3
Hi Simon how about you extend the air release nozzle so it is almost flush with the outer wheel holder making it easy to release as when there is air in the hose it is very very tight to release

Will this be the straw that breaks the rear door’s back? I had an early classic Discovery three door and its door hinges would droop if I so much as looked at it less than kindly. Excellent location and kit if it works. Would like to see it wired up of course and maybe you could sell the bracket with a wiring kit included as standard
Great idea, just two things first one are the screws that connect the compressor to the plate are they going into nylock nuts as the vibration may make them come loose. Second one where the outlet is on the compressor is it not possible to make up and extension piece to bring the quick release connector nearly flush with the spare wheel. I.e. a piece of stainless steel pipe about 6inch or so with the same thread to connect to the compressor then fix the quick release to the other end. Just a thought..
Hi Gordon - good points - some threadlock on the nuts would be a good idea - I dont think they are nylocs. I like the idea of the extension piece - this would make it just that bit easier to use. Now all i have to do is work out the wiring !

I guess the voltage would be to high to just plug it into the domestic socket below the fuse box for those of as that have them. This could possibly remove the need for a switch? Brilliant idea, well done!
Great idea. Would love to see the wiring video when able. 2023 110 owner here in the US. Would you recommend the ARB or the LR integrated compressor? Also will the smaller ARB fit on the same mounting bracket? Thanks for all you folks are doing.
Brilliant ! No more to say. _ Actually there is ... I think it's possible to mount these compressors into the engine bay of a Disco 3 and 4 - so, how about doing a mounting plate and details of mounting this into a Discovery 3/4....
I have seen many a video where people have installed these units (and the single compressor version), into engine bays. I believe that this will lead to premature failure due to the heat. Stories of motor bearing failure etc are being told. These units run hot when operating and have a fan installed to try and keep the heat at bay. But if the fan is moving hot air, or very little air due to it's installation location, then it's going to fail.
This location is very dusty, and the filter will get clogged up in no time. I would suggest to add the remote air intake kit and locate the intake inside the car
I travel as often as possible to Central Kalahari and Okavango in Botswana. The dust is a next level powder in the dry season. In Southern Africa I would hesitate to mount anything there 😳 Maybe UK/Europe would be fine?
Great video - Maybe add some sort of ‘soft’ washer (nylon?) between the stainless steel bracket and the car? I’d be a bit worried about bolting the bracket directly to the vehicle body w/o protecting the paint etc, it could create a potential corrosion / rust issue downstream if this isn’t done.
Briljant! I will order one! Any option to squeeze the ARB air tank in there as well? :) The ARB kit is much better than the crazy expensive Land Rover compressor.
Excellent idea! Do you think it's possible to install a couple of right-angle air hose brackets to the outlet so a hose could come out of the bottom/side of the wheel bracket? That way a hose could be stored behind the wheel (wound-up), and doesn't require removal of the spare wheel cover. Could it also be possible to power the thing with a 12V lighter plug?
Yes the wind up hose outside would work - the thread is 1/4" NPT but i would rather keep the hose in the car - keep it clean ? I agree with S2S below - the ARB compressor takes some current - I will do a video on the wiring.
@@L663 That's a fair point about the dirt... Maybe a cover or hose bag or something would be necessary. And yes to be fair the ARB looks pretty heavy duty so no surprise really! In real life you’re exposing the compressor to dust and mud which is not good at all. In addition, the access point is beyond horrible. The engine bay is continual heat and hot air and under the floor there will be limited airflow. I think this is a primary cause of premature failure. It really needs an extension that places the quick release further out, so that is protrudes from the center cap position.
should be quite easy to achieve, with some 1/4 BSP threaded pipe cut to the relivent length, would extend the quick release through the wheel centre.
Utter genius. Also very impressed how LR predicted power would be required in that area, so no drilling holes 👌👍😊
